Restored New Hamptons Museum Is Worth A Visit

For years, I watched the impressive but dilapidated white mansion sit sadly at the intersection of Montauk Highway and Ocean Road in Bridgehampton, New York, wondering whether its colonial-style columns would live through another winter. What if they buckled, crushed by the weight of time and tides? The Bridgehampton Museum also known as the Nathaniel Rogers House Todor Tsvetkov Photography This summer, though, the Bridgehampton Museum, also known as the Nathaniel Rogers House for one of its most famous past owners, has emerged restored and rejuvenated. Across from the refurbished luxurious Topping Rose House and the village's War Monument, the Museum, now listed on the National Register of Historic Places, anchors the cultural heart of the town. 'Our mission is to preserve and promote the history of Bridgehampton and the culture of the East End,' said Executive Director Connor Flanagan. 'This year we are presenting several exhibits and more than 70 public programs.' Are these ponies waiting their turn at the phone booths in Sagaponack? Pingree W. Louchheim Don't wait for a rainy day to check out the 100 or so fabulous black and white photographs taken by Pingree W. Louchheim, the only staff photographer for the Southampton Press between 1972 and 1997 (on view until August 16). Curated by Collections Manager Tim Malyk, they speak of an era where fields, open spaces and simple, rural life were the essence of the East End physical and cultural landscape. 'The building reflects history but also lends itself to art exhibits,' said Mr. Flanagan. Summer programs range from outdoor painting classes to literary lectures, a sculpture course using marine plastic debris, and even a blacksmithing workshop. Portrait of a Gentleman, circa 1830. Inspired by the large whaling captains' homes in Sag Harbor and Southampton, he transformed the structure into a Greek revival showpiece, adding a massive front portico with four ionic columns, additional bedrooms and a third-floor cupola. Later on, the house's new owners transformed it into a boarding house for summer visitors, after which it became known as Hampton House, a luxury hotel that would welcome well-heeled guests until 1949. The owners occupied part of it until 2004, then the building fell into disrepair. Exterior of Nathaniel Rogers House, Bridgehampton, Long Island, New York, USA. The 1840 house is one of the best examples of Greek Revival Architecture on Long Island. getty For years, rumors and plans swirled within the community, culminating in a proposal for a shopping mall on the site, reminiscent of the Bridgehampton Commons on the other side of the village. Southampton Town, the Bridgehampton Historical Society, the Helen and Claus Hoie Charitable Foundation, state agencies, and numerous local community members stepped in to save the building. It took almost twenty years and $11.7 million, but today the Bridgehampton Museum has found its place as the keeper of Bridgehampton and neighboring towns' unique history. The Nathaniel Rogers House has stood nearly invisible for decades. It's time to slow down, park the car and step into the history of our beloved South Fork.

Your Starbucks Will Soon Look a Lot Different

Your Starbucks Will Soon Look a Lot Different originally appeared on Parade. The Covid pandemic fundamentally altered the way people interact with restaurants and coffee shops, as the focus shifted away from the in-house experience and instead toward getting in and out as quickly as possible. Gone were the days of sitting in Starbucks for hours reading War and Peace from cover to cover. Many seats disappeared altogether, with space reallocated toward mobile orders and delivery pick-ups. With this, Starbucks suffered. The company's sales fell for the last five straight quarters, according to CNN. In an attempt to win back customers, Starbucks is majorly overhauling all of its stores—and putting an emphasis on comfort. 🍳 SIGN UP to get delicious recipes, handy kitchen hacks & fun food news in our daily Pop Kitchen newsletter 🍳 Starbucks has ambitious plans to renovate all of its U.S. stores by 2028. In a lot of ways, the redesigns are reversing the decisions of the last few years. 'It's creating comfortable seating where people want to come in," the company's COO, Mike Grams, told CNN. "It's not just the quick grab and go concept." Photos of a remodeled store in Bridgehampton, N.Y. feature long cozy booths and plenty of cushioned seats. Kiss those uncomfortable wobbly stools goodbye! The store also heavily features rustic wood-inspired decor, including paneling along the windows, a large bookshelf in one of the walls, and a (presumably) faux fireplace. Photos from another store in East Hampton, N.Y. had similar wood accents and cushioned couches, but with a brighter appearance thanks to its white walls. While larger locations have room for ample seating, it's unclear how the redesign will take hold in denser urban locales like New York City, where stores are smaller and don't have as much space to work with. One thing is for certain, though: the big purple armchairs Starbucks became famous for will not be returning. The past is in the past. Onwards and upwards! Starbucks is pioneering the ‘coffeehouse of the future' with comfy chairs and couches as its CEO pushes to reimagines stores

is introducing premium features, including comfortable couches, warm lighting, and revamped wall art in redesigned stores starting in New York and Southern California. The changes align with CEO Brian Niccol's 'Back to Starbucks' plan, which aims to get customers to stick around locations longer, including by adding ceramic mugs for some in-house orders and bringing back the condiment bar in U.S. locations. CEO Brian Niccol has pushed for Starbucks to be more inviting to customers, and now some of its locations are seeing major changes aligned with his vision. Starting in New York and Southern California, Starbucks is enhancing its stores with premium features aimed at cultivating a 'coffeehouse vibe,' as part of Niccol's Back to Starbucks plan. Among the changes, Starbucks is adding cozier seating, warmer lighting, and locally inspired art to try to give each redesigned location more of a unique feel. At a Bridgehampton, NY, location that is among the first to be remodeled, cozy chairs and couches, accentuated by dark, Starbucks-themed green walls and hardwood floors give the location a distinct look. A redesigned store in East Hampton, NY also stands out for its wall art paying homage to the town's seaside location and nautical roots. The redesigned Starbucks locations are part of Niccol's plan to make Starbucks a place where customers want to spend time. Apart from the redesigns, some of the changes include offering ceramic mugs for some in-house orders, as well as bringing back the condiment bar for customers to add their own milk and sugar to drinks. The company is also instructing its baristas to warmly acknowledge customers, to help them feel welcome. Starbucks has also made big strategic changes to improve efficiency, including cutting down on its extensive food and drink menu and doing away with some options for drink customizations. A new order sequencing algorithm piloted during the first quarter has also helped the company reduce wait times, with three-quarter of orders at test locations arriving in under four minutes at peak. The big changes Niccol has spearheaded have drawn praise from Starbucks founder Howard Schultz, who said he 'did a cartwheel' after hearing about the CEO's Back to Starbucks plan. Still, the changes have yet to yield much in terms of financials, with the company reporting $8.8 billion for the second quarter, just below analyst expectations. Niccol said in an April note, however, that he was confident in his turnaround plan. 'We have a lot of work ahead, but we are on the right track and moving quickly,' Niccol said. Robert Kraft celebrates Fourth of July with star-studded party featuring shock performance by Elton John

New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft celebrated the Fourth of July with a glitzy, star-studded party in The Hamptons featuring a surprise performance from the legendary Elton John. The party was reportedly held at the 84-year-old's mansion in Bridgehampton, New York with A-list attendees including sports star Mike Tyson as well as Hollywood stars Sylvester Stallone and Jerry Seinfeld. Also in attendance, but not performing for Kraft's guests was Jon Bon Jovi. However, John came ready to serenade. The 78-year-old iconic singer reportedly arrived at his performance in a golf cart decorated with white feathers, emerging on stage in a yellow get-up. He then performed in front of a red piano, per PEOPLE. What songs were performed during John's Independence Day concert are unclear, as it would have been a real treat to see any of his greatest hits, as he retired from touring in 2023. Drone photographs of John performing and Kraft's mansion were posted to Instagram by Marianne Barnett, showing an American flag and the house lighting up an entire block. John can be seen at the opposite end of the home from the American flag sitting in front of the piano for his performance, with plenty of lavish guests watching on. It is unclear who else from the sports world was in attendance, as Kraft's muddled relationship with former Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady have played out in the public eye. Things appear solid with Brady, as he was inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame last year. Kraft's relationship with Belichick appears on less-solid ground, with Brady bringing the two together for s shot to bury the hatchet over the latter's firing during his Netflix roast. Also celebrating the holiday weekend in Bridgehampton was social media sensation Livvy Dunne, although it is not clear whether she had an invite to Kraft's party. Earlier on July 4th, Dunne was seen in a red-and-white bikini on the beach in The Hamptons. The former LSU gymnast also shared a photo in a white dress, wearing a pair of sunglasses and her tongue sticking out next to friend Lauren Maitland, akin to what some of Kraft's guests donned.
