Twin Cities weekend guide: Mattress racing, polar plunge, fiber arts market

Buck Hill may be known for tubing, but Minnesotans will soon be racing down the Burnsville slopes on an unusual form of transportation — a queen mattress. Driving the news: Saturday marks the return of the Original Mattress Factory Bedrace for Bridging, where teams of four pile onto one mattress (often wearing creative outfits) to raise money for Twin Cities nonprofit Bridging. Last year's competitor costumes included the "The Wizard of Oz" crew, a team of " grandmas" and a group wearing inflatable ducks. How it works: The entrance fee is $600 per team, which goes to Bridging. (Mattresses are provided.) Spectators are welcome to watch for free, though donations are appreciated. 15400 Buck Hill Rd., Burnsville. 6pm Saturday, March 1. Free entry 💭 Audrey's thought bubble: If you haven't found an end-of-campaign thank you gift for your party's Dungeon Master, this is a great place to start. Everyone could use an extra set of dice! 🥶 If you missed the Minnesota Ice Swim, you can still jump in a lake Saturday at the Polar Plunge in Lake Nokomis. Plungers must raise at least $75 to participate, which supports Special Olympics Minnesota. 🧶 Knitters, crocheters and the "fiber-curious" should head to Broken Clock Brewing Cooperative on Sunday for Fiber Fest 2025, a day dedicated to all things fiber arts. Expect over a dozen local vendors, workshops and, we're assuming, conversations about the end of Joann. Free
