Food safety officers asked to ensure quality of food at Yercaud
District Collector R. Brindha Devi has directed food safety officers to ensure the quality of food at restaurants in Yercaud, and warned of action against eateries selling food at inflated prices. Ahead of the 48th Yercaud Summer Festival and Flower Show, scheduled from May 23 to 29, the Collector inspected restaurants and eateries in the hill station on Monday to assess the quality of the food being served. Noting that Yercaud is a major tourist destination, the Collector emphasised the importance of providing hygienically prepared food at fair prices. As part of the inspection, restaurants were instructed to issue bills only through computerised systems that reflect accurate pricing. All eateries must also clearly display food price lists for the benefit of tourists. Tea shops, in particular, were directed to strictly sell tea, coffee, and snacks at the prescribed rates. Action will be taken against overcharge establishments, and food safety officers have been asked to strictly enforce these rules, Ms. Brindha Devi added. The Collector further instructed food safety officers to ensure that restaurant kitchens were kept clean and hygienic in accordance with government guidelines, that only quality ingredients are used in food preparation, and that banned plastic products are avoided. She also directed that such inspections be carried out regularly.

100 beneficiaries receive hearing aids under CMCHIS in Salem
Salem District Collector R. Brindha Devi distributed hearing aids to 100 beneficiaries under the Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (CMCHIS) in a function held at the Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital (GMKMCH) on Saturday. The beneficiaries received hearing aids worth ₹8,000 each at a total cost of ₹8 lakh. Speaking at the function, Collector Brindha Devi said, 'Hearing impairment can affect anyone from children to the elderly. Nerve issues, accidents, age-related issues, and bacterial infections in the centre of the ears can cause hearing loss. Modernised equipment is used at the ENT Department of Salem GMKMCH to conduct hearing tests on children and elderly persons. For people with hearing issues, hearing aids worth ₹25,000 to ₹50,000 are provided under the CMCHIS free of cost,' Ms. Brindha Devi added. The collector announced that 3,000 people received hearing aids through the CMCHIS program over the past three years. 'The National Programme for Prevention and Control of Deafness (NPPCD) has been conducting screenings for children using modern equipment. If hearing issues are detected in children under the age of six, cochlear implant surgeries are performed under the CMCHIS. Additionally, the GMKMCH PET scan center has been established over the past four years with an investment of ₹12 crore for cancer treatment,' she added. Explaining the services provided at the Secondary Care Hospital at Ammapet in Salem Corporation, Ms. Brindha Devi said that to provide medical services in nearby locations, a secondary care hospital was constructed at a cost of ₹43.65 crore in Ammapet. In the past four months, 6,500 patients availed various services in the hospital and nine surgeries were also performed, the collector added. The Collector later provided 2,495 bed sheets to GMKMCH. Hospital Dean J. Devi Meenal, Superintendent R. Rajkumar, and officials from concerned departments participated in the function.

₹264 crore distributed to entrepreneurs in loans over four years: Salem collector
A total of ₹264.48 crore has been distributed in loans among 1,928 entrepreneurs in Salem district over the last four years, District Collector R. Brindha Devi said. The Collector was participating in a Single Window Portal facilitation workshop for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and large industries in Salem and Dharmapuri districts held at a hotel in Mamangam on Tuesday. Speaking at the meeting, Ms. Brindha Devi said that Chief Minister M. K. Stalin streamlined the process of obtaining permission from various government departments into a single window system to support upcoming businesses and entrepreneurs by enabling ease and transparency. The single window portal allows businesses to easily secure necessary approvals, including no objection certificates, department-related approvals, renewals, and business licenses. Applicants can submit requests for 217 different approvals from various departments through this single window website: Registered applications will be reviewed within a specified timeframe under the Tamil Nadu Business Facilitation Act and Rules of 2018, and the appropriate approvals will be granted, the collector noted. Also, a single window committee for MSMEs at the district level has been set up to monitor and expedite pending applications. In the past four years, the District Industries Centre (DIC) has provided loans totalling ₹264.48 crore, along with a subsidy of ₹77.34 crore to 1,928 entrepreneurs in Salem district, the Collector stated. A demonstration of the single window system was held later, and clarification was provided on questions related to the system. In the workshop, Salem DIC general manager D. Sivakumar, officials from Guidance Tamil Nadu, Charles Rajkumar, Jothi Narayanan, Dinesh Pandyen, and Vikranth Sakthi, officials from concerned departments, and representatives from MSMEs and large industries participated.

Over 15,500 students to write NEET in Salem and Namakkal districts
A total of 15,738 students are going to write the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) in Salem and Namakkal districts on Sunday. A preparatory meeting on NEET was held at the Salem Collectorate on Saturday. At the meeting, District Collector R. Brindha Devi said a total of 9,731 candidates would write the exams in 22 centres in the district. Students should reach the examination centre before the time mentioned in the admit card. District-level officials were appointed to monitor the exam centres. Instructions were given to officials of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC), Salem Division, to run special buses based on requirements on Sunday. Similarly, the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board had been directed to ensure uninterrupted power supply to exam centres and question paper centres. Instructions were given to police to provide protection for the exam centres and question paper centres. The Fire and Rescue Services had also been instructed to keep fire engines ready wherever required. Officials were instructed to ensure basic amenities like drinking water in the exam centres, Ms. Brindha Devi added. In the meeting, District Revenue Officer R. Ravikumar and officials from departments concerned participated. In Namakkal district, 6,007 students will write NEET in 14 exam centres. Two invigilators were provided to each hall and every exam centres would be monitored by Tahsildars. For three exam centres each, an official in the rank of DRO was appointed an 24 candidates would be allowed to write exams in each hall. Apart from this, two officials from the National Testing Agency would monitor each centre.
