Alma man arrested in Bacon Co. death

ALMA, Ga. (WSAV) — The GBI has arrested and charged an Alma man in connection to the death of a 50-year-old. His charges are in connection to the death of 50-year-old Antonious Brinson. At around 4:30 p.m. on May 11, Bacon County 911 received a call regarding a shooting in the 200 block of East 6th Street. Officials said Brinson was shot in the incident and was taken a local hospital where he died from his wounds. Witnesses were able to describe the car that had driven by and fired multiple gunshots toward a house, hitting Brinson, a GBI spokesperson said. After being requested by the Alma Police Department (APD), the GBI's investigation reportedly determined Johnson was responsible. Johnson was located at a local motel later Sunday night and taken into custody. He has been booked into the Bacon County Jail. Another NFL team is stockpiling Georgia Bulldogs and it is not the Eagles

Another NFL team is stockpiling Georgia Bulldogs and it is not the Eagles The 2025 NFL draft, which saw 13 former Georgia Bulldogs chosen by various teams. Defensive tackle Warren Brinson, a sixth-round pick by the Green Bay Packers, addressed reporters in his first media session being a member apart of the Packers. Brinson mentioned that he has already thought of a name for the group of Dawgs in Green Bay: "The Pack Dawgs". The Packers have been known to select former Bulldogs in the draft. Over the years, they have selected defensive lineman Devonte Wyatt, defensive back Javon Bullard, linebacker Quay Walker and cornerback Eric Stokes, who is now with the Las Vegas Raiders. They also recently picked up wide receiver Mecole Hardman, center Trey Hill, tight end John Fitzpatrick and defensive tackle Nazir Stackhouse in free agency after the draft. The Packers and the Philadelphia Eagles have the most players from the University of Georgia of any team in the NFL. The Eagles and Packers have eight former Georgia players on their roster after the draft. The Eagles are the latest team to win a Super Bowl and did so with a lot of help from former Georgia players. Packers Late-Round Rookie Sends Message With Pro-Level Mindset

The Green Bay Packers' defensive line was arguably their most disappointing position group last season. Despite well-defending the run, they ranked 27th in pass rush win rate. With significant contracts invested in Kenny Clark and Rashan Gary, plus two first-round picks in Lukas Van Ness and Devonte Wyatt, the pass rush underperformed relative to expectations. Green Bay strengthened its defensive line by selecting edge rushers Barryn Sorrell and Collin Oliver. In addition to the interior, defensive lineman Warren Brinson. Super Bowl LIX proved that having depth up front is essential for success. With that in mind, General Manager Brian Gutekunst is dedicated to strengthening the defensive line, ensuring Green Bay's trenches are ready for the upcoming season. Honestly, I think I'm a very good pass rusher, but I can't just be too cocky about it," Brinson said while speaking to the media during rookie minicamp. "I got to work hard, I got to ask Kenny (Clark) some stuff, just learn from the guys around me, get into practice, and just hear what they have to tell me. I'm trying to be a sponge and just soak in all the information, just find out the nuances of the NFL that I need to know to be elite and be ahead of other people." Advertisement Brinson also looks to make an impact beyond the football field. "My goal is to do my best to learn my part, do my job, and just be a leader for the guys around me," Brinson added. "I'm a rookie, but I still can lead by example by just doing my job, doing my part, staying in my playbook, and doing the right things." Brinson is a good athlete, earning a 78.0 run defense grade over the past two seasons at Georgia. Georgia's deep defensive line rotation limited his snaps, but he still showed flashes of his potential. He is well-positioned to contribute as a situational run-stopper in Green Bay, particularly on short-yardage downs. With T.J. Slaton departing in free agency, Brinson could step into a key role early and emerge as a reliable option in the interior run defense. Could California see the end of conjugal visits at state prisons amid deaths of women?

( — California is one of only five states in the U.S. that allow conjugal visits within the prison system, but after two recent deaths, could that soon be a thing of the past? Conjugal visits, also known as 'family visits,' are for incarcerated persons and occur in private, apartment-like facilities on prison grounds. According to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, they last about 30 to 40 hours and allow inmates to spend time with their parents, children, siblings, and most commonly, legal spouses. During visits with spouses, sexual relations are allowed. Camping World location closes amid controversy over flying American flag According to the U.S. Department of Justice, besides California, the only states in the country that allow conjugal visits are New York, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Minnesota. However, with two recent deaths of women during the specialized visits, talks of putting an end to them in the Golden State are underway. 'This bad policy has led to the death of 2 women killed while visiting unsupervised,' said Assemblymember David Tangipa. 'My office is committed to fight for normal, protect lives, and get rid of insane laws in California.' Popular Sacramento brewery abruptly closes all three of its area locations amid lawsuit The two women Tangipa referred to are 47-year-old Tania Thomas and 62-year-old Stephanie Brinson, who died during conjugal visits in Northern California. Both of them were allegedly strangled to death. Thomas died in July 2024, and Brinson died in November 2024. At the time, Thomas' domestic partner, Anthony Curry, 48, was already serving a life sentence for attempted second-degree murder. Brinson's husband, David Brinson, 54, was also serving a life sentence for murder. 'Prisoners serving life without parole get date nights, condoms, and up to four days unsupervised—On Your Dime,' Tangipa said. He is working on legislation to put an end to conjugal visits in California. 'If you are a murderer, why would you get the option to visit with your family? When I think about the victim's family who will never get the option to see their family member again,' Tangipa said in an interview with CBS47/KSEE 24. 'I think this is irresponsible. I think murderers need 24-hour supervision. I think they should not have conjugal visits. They have not earned it.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
