Millie Bobby Brown Wears Gwyneth Paltrow's 1998 Sheer Armani Dress for ‘The Electric State' Madrid Premiere With Jake Bongiovi
Millie Bobby Brown married two ongoing red carpet trends, archival dressing and sheer fabrics, for the premiere of Netflix's 'The Electric State' in Madrid on Friday. Accompanied by her husband, Jake Bongiovi, the actress attended the event in a vintage Giorgio Armani dress that Gwyneth Paltrow famously wore at the 1998 'Shakespeare in Love' premiere in New York City. The dress, a sheer, beaded ice-gray gown, was paired with a dark blue shawl for contrast. The styling option was another reference to Paltrow's look, which also featured a long black shawl. The 'Stranger Things' star was styled by Ryan Young for the premiere. Young's been working with Brown throughout 'The Electric State' promo tour, previously dressing her in Annie's Ibiza for the movie's premiere in Los Angeles. During the promo tour, Brown also channeled another '90s fashion icon, Pamela Anderson, wearing a gold satin dress with her bombshell blond tresses, as seen on Brown's Instagram. Bongiovi accompanied his wife, embracing other staples from the '90s. He wore an oversize leather jacket, denim pants and Loewe boots. 'The Electric State' will be available for streaming on Netflix starting on March 7. BBC Gaza Doc Fallout Continues as Former Chief Accuses Corp of Being 'Manipulated by Terrorists'
The fallout continues over the BBC's airing of a documentary narrated by the son of a Hamas official. Earlier this week, the corporation apologized and removed Gaza: How to Survive a Warzone, about the lives of three children caught in the Israel-Gaza war, from its streaming service BBC iPlayer. It was discovered that one of the 13-year-old subjects, Abdullah Al-Yazouri, is the son of Hamas' deputy minister of agriculture. More from The Hollywood Reporter 'Piggy Bank' Explores the Climate Crisis Via a Mix of Self-Experiment, Mockumentary, Fact and Fiction Inside the 2025 Brit Awards: Sabrina Carpenter Shocks, Millie Bobby Brown Gushes, Tender Liam Payne Tribute Leaves Arena Still Brat Brit Awards 2025: Charli XCX Wins Four, Chappell Roan Gets Two Honors A statement from the corp said it takes 'full responsibility' for 'unacceptable flaws' in commissioning the program, stating that production company behind the doc Hoyo Films acknowledged that the BBC were not informed of Abdullah Al-Yazouri's Hamas ties. The Sunday Times reported that the child was paid around £700 for his part in the film, given to him via his sister's back account. Director-general Tim Davie has requested that Peter Johnston, the director for editorial complaints and reviews who carried out the investigation into Russell Brand's behavior, lead a fact-finding review of the episode, also according to the newspaper. While the documentary has been permanently removed from iPlayer, industry figures such as actors Riz Ahmed, Khalid Abdalla, Miriam Margolyes and director Mike Leigh are among the 900+ signatories of an open letter published by Artists for Palestine U.K. demanding it be reinstated on the platform. 'Beneath this political football are children who are in the most dire circumstances of their young lives,' the letter reads. 'As programme-makers, we are extremely alarmed by the intervention of partisan political actors on this issue, and what this means for the future of broadcasting in this country.' Now, the former controller of BBC1 has weighed in. Danny Cohen, who was in the top job from 2013-2015, told The Sunday Times that the BBC has allowed itself to be 'manipulated by terrorists'. He called on U.K. culture secretary Lisa Nandy to ensure 'wider systemic issues of anti-Israel bias' are explored at the BBC in an independent investigation, rather than allowing it 'to mark its own homework'. Nandy has insisted there was a 'robust' exchange with BBC chair Samir Shah. Cohen added: 'Given the scale of the BBC's failings, it feels absolutely appropriate for the culture secretary to ensure this [independent investigation] happens. The ultimate failing here is by the BBC's leadership. They should not be allowed to just investigate themselves… the journalistic failings of this programme are part of a wider system failure at the BBC.' The BBC Board released a statement on Thursday addressing the controversy: 'The subject matter of the documentary was clearly a legitimate area to explore, but nothing is more important than trust and transparency in our journalism. While the Board appreciates that mistakes can be made, the mistakes here are significant and damaging to the BBC.' Further issues around the documentary have come to light painting a grim picture for the BBC. A second child who appeared in the documentary, 11-year-old Zakaria, was photographed holding a gun besides a Hamas fighter. Additionally, a camera operator on the doc appears to have shown support on social media for the Oct. 7 massacre in 2023, when Hamas killed around 1,200 people. The operator shared a video of the killing of an Israeli soldier on X (formerly Twitter), saying it should be watched 'a million' times. When contacted for comment by The Hollywood Reporter, the BBC redirected THR to their Thursday statement, which can be read in full here. North East Brit success for Sam Fender and Jade
It was a victorious night for North East musicians Sam Fender and Jade Thirlwall at the 2025 Brit Awards. Fender, who picked up best alternative/rock act, praised "all those at home in Shields" and added he was "no where near as drunk as last time". It marked the end of a huge week for Fender, who also topped the UK album charts with People Watching. Meanwhile South Shields' born Jade performed her song Angel Of My Dreams and picked up best pop act. The Brit Awards ceremony in London celebrated the best in British music and beyond over the past 12 months. Jade, formerly of Little Mix, said she spent two and a half years writing after the band announced a hiatus in 2022. The 32-year-old told the BBC she was "very grateful" to have received two nominations, including song of the year. She said Angel of My Dreams was an honest assessment of her "toxic relationship with the music industry" and aims to show how "fame has come at a price". She spoke of her love for her "Little Mix sisters" as she collected the best pop act award. "Firstly, I need to thank the fans because that's why I won this award," she said. She went on to thank her family and friends for "making me feel like it was a realistic goal to be a pop star ever since I was a little girl". "And finally, my Little Mix sisters. I love you so much. I wouldn't have this award without you and you changed my life." Accepting the best rock and alternative act prize, Fender admitted he was a "little bit nervous" as he took a few attempts to say a "huge thanks" to his fans. He then thanked his band, adding he would just be a "mad man shouting at walls" without them. Additional reporting by PA Media Follow BBC North East on X, Facebook, Nextdoor and Instagram. BRITs: Charli XCX picks up third award as she is named Artist of the Year
Charli XCX dedicated her Artist of the Year Award at the Brit Awards 2025 with Mastercard to those who feel like they "don't fit in". The 32-year-old pop star was up against Beabadoobee, Central Cee, Dua Lipa Fred again.., Jamie xx, Michael Kiwanuka, Nia Archives, Rachel Chinouriri and Sam Fender but came out on top as she collected her third prize of the evening. Speaking live on stage at London's O2 Arena on Saturday (02.03.25) night, she said: "This is really cool. Artist of the Year, thank you so much. I've always been an artist but it really rakes a whole team and they're all sat at that table so thank you so much to the people who helped me mak this record. "Thank you to all the artists out there who feel like they don't fit in but still try. I share this with you." Earlier in the evening, the '360' hitmaker had been named Best Dance Act. She said: "Look, I feel like dance music, electric music gets a really bad rep because I feel like everybody is like 'Oh, it's not really that deep, is it?' And I feel like it is. I feel like this genre of music for me is euphoric, and it allows me to feel on such a deep level. And maybe that's not the way for everyone but for me it is." Less than an hour beforehand, Charli had won Song of the Year for 'Guess', which was released as part of her album 'Brat and It's Completely Different but Also Still Brat' and featured Billie Eilish. She said: "Hi. Thank you, erm, yeah, this is cool. I'm really happy that a song about underwear now has a BRIT Award. Very important stuff. I'm sure that proves something about songwriting, I'm not sure what. "Thank you to Billie, I asked whether she wanted to be on the song about three days before we shot the music video, and five days before it came out so shout out to her for moving with pace. Not all artists are spontaneous despite them claiming that they are so, thank you Billie, for running and gunning it with me, that was really cool."
