Prince Harry Almost Severed Ties With ‘Sick' King Charles For Good—But Princess Diana's Relative Stopped Him

The feud between Prince Harry and his father, King Charles, has been at the top of the list of troubling reports coming from the British Royal Family in the last few months. And that's saying something, because there have been reports about a possible divorce from both Prince William and Kate Middleton and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. But the fact that Prince Harry remains estranged not just from his father, but from his brother Prince William, has taken most of the spotlight. Now there are reports that Prince Harry almost took the feud to another level, reportedly at one point considering changing his last name to his mother's maiden surname, Spencer, presumably to permanently cut ties with his father. There's no biggest separation that the decision to not even share a last name. More from StyleCaster Meghan Markle's Neighbors Slam Her as 'Distant'-She Doesn't 'Fit in' Compared to 'Charming' Prince Harry Prince Harry Is 'So Disappointed' by Princess Diana's Sisters After He Was Accused of 'Betraying' the Royal Family Related: Did William really cheat on Kate? The Telegraph reports that 'During a rare visit to Britain, Prince Harry is said to have sought advice from his uncle Earl Spencer, about whether to assume his mother's surname.' A source told the paper, 'They had a very amicable conversation and Spencer advised him against taking such a step.' Taking Princess Diana's Spencer surname would have meant getting rid of Mountbatten-Windsor, a last name Prince Harry shares with his two children, six-year-old Prince Archie and three-year-old Princess Lilibet. Despite that being the name in their legal documentation, however, Meghan Markle revealed in the Netflix series With Love, Meghan that their family uses 'Sussex' as their last name. 'It's so funny you keep saying Meghan Markle. You know I'm Sussex now?' she tells Mindy Kaling at one point. 'You have kids, and you go, 'No, I share my name with my children,' and that feels so—I didn't know how meaningful it would be to me, but it just means so much to go, 'This is our family name. Our little family name.'' Perhaps this is why Prince Harry had no issues considering the change. Things seemed to have taken a positive turn recently, though. Prince Harry's latest interview suggested he wanted to make up with his father while there was still time. All of this comes amid worrying reports about King Charles' health. 'Charles is indeed a sick man, and he does have cancer,' an insider told NewsNationNow. 'He also refused chemotherapy and decided on a less invasive treatment. While Harry and his dad aren't speaking, Harry would be aware of all of this via back channels.' A possible reconciliation with King Charles is considered more likely than a reconciliation with his brother, Prince William. Reports have indicated that William has plans for Prince Harry when he takes the throne, which might include taking away his title. 'It's no secret William wants Harry more harshly dealt with. He thinks he has betrayed the family from top to bottom, which is the ultimate Windsor crime. It wouldn't take much to provoke him to flex his muscles when he is king,' a palace insider told The Daily Beast. At least Prince Harry didn't take that final step of changing his last name. But whether this means things can still be fixed remains to be seen. Opinion: King Charles may help Canada escape the worst of Trump

Op Eds By Last week's two-day visit by King Charles III and Queen Camilla to open the 45th parliament of his Canadian domain. was purely symbolic, but pundits far and wide pontificated about the profound significance of the event. That's their job, poor souls. Later this year, probably in September, U.S. President Donald Trump will travel to the United Kingdom for his second state visit, and King Charles will swallow his distaste and welcome him to the U.K. with a clenched smile. Another symbolic event bereft of visible consequences, it would seem, but there is a real and viable strategy behind these events. The whole show is designed to exploit Trump's fascination with the British monarchy. Charles's sole purpose in Canada was to emphasize the sovereignty and separateness of Canada in the face of Trump's insistent claims it should become part of the United States, the 51st state. But why bring in the King of Canada, a title even Charles himself rarely uses? Indeed, why does Canada even have a king? Every country needs a head of state, and most democracies prefer not to have a practising politician in the role. Whether president or monarch, the head of state needs to be above the day-to-day political struggle. Kings, emperors and tyrants used to rule everywhere. They came into vogue when mass societies emerged some 5,000 years ago, and continued in most places until the 18th century or later because democracy was impossible until the advent of mass communications (initially in the form of printing and mass literacy). Countries that won their democracies by revolution, like the United States, replaced their monarch with a president who served as both head of state and executive head of government. Some presidents in other republics were later tempted to use this dual position to seek absolute power, although the U.S. has avoided that problem until recently. Countries that achieved their democracy later and more peacefully, however, often found it simpler just to transform their former monarchs into non-political and impartial heads of state. Kings and queens fill that role in former British-ruled democracies like Canada and Australia and in many other countries from Spain and Sweden to Thailand and Japan. Many people in countries that swapped their kings for presidents long ago still feel a strange attraction to the mystique of the monarchies. The French popular media, for example, follow the doings of the British Royal Family at least as closely as the British do. The mystique of monarchy is as false and deliberately fabricated as an advertising campaign for beauty products. Charles is an intelligent and well-intentioned man working hard for Canada even while under treatment for cancer, but he is not the incarnation of an ancient and sacred past. In fact, when it comes to heredity, I am probably more closely related to King Charles I than King Charles III is. (My ancestors were mostly English and Irish; his, at least on the male line, are mostly German.) Yet the phoney mystique of the British royal family has captivated Trump, so it made perfectly good sense for Prime Minister Mark Carney and the King to conspire in reminding Trump that Canada has a strong royal connection (even if most Canadians don't feel it). It will make equally good sense for Charles to welcome Trump to the United Kingdom in the autumn for an unprecedented second state visit. Trump is a sucker for real power (thus his fanboy admiration for Russian President Vladimir Putin), but he is also a sucker for the ceremonies, rituals and trappings of fake power (Charles). Playing the monarchy card might protect both countries from worse treatment at the hands of Trump. After all, this is a man who loves parades in his own honour.

Princess Beatrice's Husband's Ex Just Sent Telling Message About Their Relationship: ‘There's Always…'

When we think about the British Royal family and the drama that always seems to be surrounding them, we usually focus on the same people. There's a lot to focus on there, after all. King Charles is sick. Succession plans are reportedly underway. Prince William and Kate Middleton have had to contend with divorce rumors, and then reconciliation rumors, and then reports that Middleton was trying to intercede in the relationship between her husband and Prince Harry. And then there's Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who are no longer working royals and whose relationship with the rest of the family is strained at best. But there are other members of the royal family, and other issues. One of those examples comes from Prince Andrew's daughter, Princess Beatrice. Prince Andrew has remained mostly out of the public eye since reports of his close friendship with Jeffrey Epstein, but his daughters have continued with their royal duties. And people remain very interested in Prince Beatrice in particular, due to her unusual family dynamics. More from StyleCaster Princess Beatrice Was 'In Tears Every Day' After Prince Andrew's Disastrous Interview-Here's If He Still Talks To His Daughters Looks Like Beatrice & Eugenie Have Picked Sides in Harry & William's Drama Related: Did William really cheat on Kate? Beatrice married Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in 2020 and has two daughters with him, Sienna and Athena. Mapelli Mozzi, however, has an older son, a nine-year-old son, Christopher Woolf 'Wolfie' Mapelli Mozzi. He shares Wolfie with ex-fiancée Dara Huang. But who is Dara Huang? And what are the family dynamics in this blended family? Huang is a successful American architect who is now based in London, where in 2013 she founded the architecture and design firm Design Haus Liberty. Huang is also the co-founder of a furniture and interiors brand with J. Christopher Burch, called Dara Maison. By all reports, Huang, Mapelli Mozz,i and Princess Beatrice get along very well, and have successfully co-parented Wolfie for the last few years without any issues. Speaking to Harper's Bazaar UK, Huang said about co-parenting, 'Wolfie has had two sets of parents trying to help him on both sides, and I just think, 'The more, the merrier,'' adding, 'I feel lucky to have such positive people around him, who really embrace him, because it didn't have to be so easy.' For Huang, your kids should come first. 'It's all about your point of view. I don't understand people who are divorced and then hold their children as collateral; that doesn't make any sense. It's about creating a happy home and lifestyle.' The single mom recently spoke about just that, being a single mom, in an Instagram post alongside a friend, Bella Koenig, who got married in Tuscany. 'Single moms rock! Here's one for all the single moms out there,' she said, adding, 'There's always going to be a wonderful man who will love your baby as much as you do and will take responsibility for all of your lives together as a blended family. Proof to never give up on love!' Princess Beatrice, meanwhile, has referred to herself as a 'bonus mum' to Wolfie and spoken about how it's a 'great honour' to be in his life. Huang just split from Spanish investor Filippos Kodellas de la Morena. She previously dated Mapelli Mozzi from 2015 to 2018. Their son, Christopher 'Wolfie' Mapelli Mozzi, was born in 2016. Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi and Princess Beatrice married in 2020. The two had known each other since childhood, as his family is close friends with her parents, Prince Andrew, Duke of York, and Sarah, Duchess of York. Prince William & Kate Middleton Welcome New Addition to Their Family After Reports of a ‘4th Child'

It's hard to tell where Prince William and Kate Middleton stand these days, because it seems like every day brings a new report that sometimes differs wildly from the previous one. First, there were divorce rumors, and the news that William had hired the same lawyers who represented Prince Diana in her divorce. Then they seemed to dispel those by going away on a romantic trip to Scotland for their anniversary. And later, there were reports Kate was trying to bring about a reconciliation between her husband and Prince Harry, something he wasn't all that thrilled about. Suffice it to say, the British Royal family continues to give people something to talk about and speculate about every day. King Charles has cancer and is reportedly not doing well. Prince Harry is giving interviews about how he wants a reconciliation with his father. Prince William and Prince Harry's relationship is also strained. Succession plans are reportedly already underway. However, the rumors about Prince William and Kate Middleton, as persistent as they are, all appear to be nothing more than that: rumors. The couple is apparently doing well enough to welcome new additions to their family, in the form of new dogs they've adopted. Yes and no. According to The Sun, the couple's black cocker spaniel Orla gave birth to several healthy puppies a few weeks ago, with a source telling the publication that both the family's dog and her pups are 'doing well,' and Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis are hoping to keep the puppies. So the couple didn't adopt new dogs, but they do have new dogs. 'Everyone loves a new royal baby news and so new royal puppies run very close,' the source added. Orla was a gift to Middleton from her brother, James, back in 2020. The dog has made a few cameos on the couple's social media account, including with Princess Charlotte in her seventh birthday portrait and with Middleton in the video where she announced she had completed chemotherapy. The couple had previously sparked speculation they'd gotten a new dog last month, when fans spotted two dogs in the couple's video for Mother's Day in the UK. However, back then, The Daily Mail confirmed that the brown dog was one of James's. So false alarm then turns into reality now. Does this mean the couple would be open to continuing to add to the family, in the form of a fourth child? Unlikely. Tom Quinn, the author of Yes Ma'am: Upstairs Downstairs in the British Royal Family , joked in an interview with Fox News in March 2025 that the two weren't planning on having another baby soon because the Princess of Wales views her husband as her 'fourth' child. 'And so, there's a joke among the staff that Kate treats William as the fourth because he occasionally behaves like one,' Quinn said then. The claim was confirmed by an anonymous royal staff member. 'She hasn't had everything done for her throughout her life, so she calms him down when he gets a bit fractious,' the report said, with the employee adding that they 'don't know' where William would be without his wife. 'She says he sometimes has to be treated as her fourth child!' So, it looks like now the Prince and Princess of Wales are happy with the new canine additions to the family. As for the future, one never knows.
