Jonathan Rea focused on making progress as comeback from injury continues in Czech Republic
Rea made his long-awaited comeback at the beginning of May after spending more than two months out with a foot injury. The record-breaking six-time champion suffered fractures in a crash in testing a few days before the season commenced in Australia. Rea endured a tough return at Cremona in Italy at round four but now wants to put the injury behind him as he concentrates on making further progress this weekend, where the 38-year-old is seeking to score his first points of 2025. 'If I could come away from Most feeling good with the bike, riding the bike in the proper way, making the correct adjustments, that would be something to be satisfied with because there's still a lot of the season left,' said Rea. 'Now, I'm not racing for classification because I've been injured — it's all about trying to maximise the opportunities that come my way and to do that we have to prepare in the best way, so Most is a good place to try and regain that feeling, and consistency and performance. 'I still have a lot of pain day to day but the body is clever to understand the pain, so it becomes easier if you like. 'I think with the plates inside my foot, and you walk on that with every movement, two of the metatarsals are fused together, so it offsets a lot of the force and pain. 'I think until I get those plates out, I'm going to have that feeling, so we need to check in the summer break if there's enough gap (to have them removed) or whether that can be done at the end of the season,' he added. 'Honestly, functionally and strength-wise, my foot is at quite 100 per cent let's say; aside from the pain and discomfort, it's quite normal and it shouldn't be an excuse from now on. 'Now is more about me getting a feeling on the bike and trying to forget the foot injury.' Turkey's Toprak Razgatlioglu has a strong record at Most and was fastest in both free practice sessions on Friday for the ROKiT BMW Motorrad team. The reigning champion is 34 points behind Ducati's Nicolo Bulega ahead of Saturday's first race (1.00pm) and is eager to close the deficit. Bulega was involved in a huge high-side in FP1 but was able to participate in the afternoon session, ending the day fourth. Razgatlioglu was two-tenths quicker than Sam Lowes (Marc VDS Racing Ducati) with brother Alex (bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team) in third. In the British Superbike Championship, Ulsterman Glenn Irwin led the time sheets in free practice at Donington Park on the Hager PBM Ducati. Irwin, who is tied on 32 points at the top with Bradley Ray and Leon Haslam after the opening round at Oulton Park, was 0.093s ahead of Yamaha rider Ray, with Rory Skinner third on the Cheshire Mouldings Ducati for TAS Racing. Current champion Kyle Ryde (OMG Nitrous Competitions Yamaha) was fourth with Haslam in fifth. Andrew Irwin was 10th fastest for Honda Racing UK with fellow Northern Ireland man and BSB rookie Scott Swann in 12th (Send My Bag IWR Honda). The first BSB race of the weekend on Saturday is set for 4.15pm with tomorrow's races due at 1.15pm and 4.20pm.

Jonathan Rea hoping familiar surroundings can help turn around World Superbike fortunes
The Pata Maxus Yamaha rider failed to score any points as he raced for the first time in 2025 after fracturing bones in his left foot following a crash during pre-season testing. Rea is feeling more optimistic for the fifth round of the series, when he will be looking to score his first points of the year this weekend. 'It's going to be nice to be back on my R1 so quickly after a difficult return weekend in Cremona – even coming back from injury, the results were well below my expectations but I had to start somewhere,' said the six-time world champion. 'Most is a more familiar track, despite still being relatively new on the World Superbike calendar, where I've had some good races, podiums and a win. 'The circuit layout should be more favourable for me as a clockwise circuit, reducing the demand on my left foot. Since Cremona, even with some pain still getting into a motocross boot, I've been riding a lot of MX to work on building up my bike strength,' added the 38-year-old. 'We're ready to go again – it's a step-by-step process to get back to the pace we showed in pre-season but I am looking forward to it and we know more what to expect this weekend in the Czech Republic.' Free practice takes place on Friday with the first race on Saturday at 1pm BST. Meanwhile, Donington Park hosts round two of the British Superbike Championship less than two weeks on from the tragic racing incident that claimed the lives of England's Owen Jenner and Shane Richardson from New Zealand on the opening lap of the feature Supersport race. BSB title hopeful Glenn Irwin said: 'Looking ahead to the weekend you almost feel a little bit guilty, because obviously we all want to continue to pay our respects to Owen and Shane's families, and when we look back at Oulton Park, the whole event is overshadowed by this sadness. 'This weekend and the whole championship in general is going to be close. The three of us who were in it at Oulton will be there, I expect Kyle (Ryde) to be there and Danny Kent to also join the party this weekend… it's going to be a good one.'

British Superbike champion Kyle Ryde makes stance clear on North West 200
British Superbike Champion Kyle Ryde was left in awe by action served up by the riders around the North West 200 circuit. Ryde flew in to visit his good friend Glenn Irwin on Thursday and was full of praise by what he saw on the Triangle course. But the 27-year-old admitted he didn't see himself ever competing around the 8.9 mile road racing circuit. READ MORE: North West 200 LIVE updates as Davey Todd storms back in Superstocks in Thursday's qualifying session READ MORE: Meet the 62-year-old rider at the North West 200 whose dream is to emulate Michael Dunlop "I am happy to be here," Ryde told BBC Sport. "It is crazy for me [to watch]. I don't ever think about doing this and I just respect the lads who do it and wish them all a good and safe weekend at the North West 200. "I was watching on at a few corners with Glenn and my anxiety is through the roof. "The one that stood out for me so far is Michael Dunlop, he was tucked in flat out in fourth and that scared me already and I've only been here an hour!" The Nottinghamshire rider secured the British Superbike Championship in dramatic fashion last year with victory in the final race of the season. He is predicting another close battle this year and feels Glenn Irwin will be in the mix. "Last year was a wonderful season, British Champion, I have worked my whole life for it. It was nice to wear this number one cap, I have 12 months of it," said Ryde. "Glenn's going to be a massive threat to me. Any other season with how he's raced he probably could have had a couple of championships to his name." Sign up to our free sports newsletter to get the latest headlines to your inbox

Two riders taken to hospital after supersport crash at North West 200 road race
Two riders were taken to hospital after an incident during the first day of qualifying for the North West 200 road race. One rider was transferred to hospital by ambulance, with the other taken from the course by air ambulance. The injuries at the event in Northern Ireland came two days after two Supersport riders were killed in a 'chain reaction' horror crash involving 11 bikes during the opening round of the British Superbike Championship. Another rider suffered a broken bone in his neck in the incident, while five others sustained minor injuries and three escaped unharmed. Both Monday's and Wednesday's incidents involved bikes from motorcycling's Supersport class for 600cc-powered machines, slightly smaller than 1,000cc Superbikes. NW200 organisers said in a statement: 'Two riders were involved in an incident at Mill Road roundabout on the NW200 course six minutes into the Supersport qualifying session.' 'Both riders were injured in the incident and the on-course medical team attended the scene. The riders were subsequently transferred to hospital, one by road ambulance and the other by air ambulance.' Red flags had been displayed to halt the Supersport session and a lengthy delay ensued before bikes were allowed back on the course to complete two laps before the action concluded for the day and the roads re-opened. Earlier in the delay, the opening Superbike session was twice delayed by oil deposits on the circuit which required red flags to be displayed. Further practice is scheduled to take place on Thursday, with roads closing from 9am to 3pm, followed by three scheduled races on Thursday evening. Six more races are scheduled to take place on Saturday on the road circuit that runs between the towns of Portstewart, Colleraine and Portrush. On Monday, Owen Jenner, 21, and Shane Richardson, 29, were killed at Oulton Park in scenes organisers described as 'severe and catastrophic'. Tom Tunstall, 47, was also rushed to Royal Stoke University Hospital with 'significant back and abdominal injuries'.
