OKC Teen among finalists in ‘Stuck at Prom' Duct Tape competition

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – An Oklahoma City teen is proving you don't need a fairy godmother to dress up like a Disney Princess. You just need a few dozen rolls of duct tape and a whole lot of creative talent. 'I thought it'd be really fun to just be creative. I had a lot of free time on my hands,' said Brittany Blackwell, a 'Stuck at Prom' finalist. LOCAL NEWS: OKC businesses see historic crowds for Thunder parade When Blackwell isn't on the river rowing with her team, the 18-year-old is likely in her bedroom creating. 'I crochet, I knit, I sew, I make things out of clay,' said Blackwell. Her newest creation is a prom dress made out of about 50 rolls of duct tape. 'It was a lot more than that that I just didn't count!' said Blackwell. Now, she's a finalist in the nationwide 'Stuck at Prom' duct tape competition. Her inspiration comes from her childhood. 'I've always had a love for Disney princesses and their dresses,' said Blackwell. However, there are no glass slippers here or ball gowns underneath. Just layers of blooms made by hand, one strip at a time. Each rose is about 15 minutes of work. 'The dress actually started ripping from the amount of flowers on it, so I would constantly have to apply more duct tape underneath and inside to keep it together,' said Blackwell. After 460 hours, she's a finalist in the competition. She's hoping to win $15,000 to start her UCO college career in interior design. LOCAL NEWS: Thunder fans meet a couple of star players from the team Now, she just needs you to vote for her once a day until the competition wraps up on July 9th. 'I just wanted to end my high school years with a bang,' said Blackwell. Another Oklahoma teen is also a finalist, Kathryn from Broken Arrow. She used 6 rolls of duct tape, and it took her 80 hours of work. If you'd like to vote, you can find the link here. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
