Michigan Rep Brixie Sanctioned After Wrapping Colleague's Car in Cling Wrap

Michigan Representative Julie Brixie was sanctioned after she was caught wrapping the car of her colleague, State Representative Matt Maddock, in cling wrap on April 17. Surveillance footage provided by the Michigan House of Representatives shows Brixie approaching a black car at the Roosevelt parking structure, across from the State Capitol in Lansing, and covering the vehicle in cling wrap shortly before 1 pm, as another woman is seen filming the incident. About 20 minutes later, Brixie addressed the House of Representatives. 'Your hood is open, your lights are on, and your engine is running,' Brixie told the vehicle's owner in front of the chamber. The following day, Maddock wrote to X, Brixie 'wrapped my car in PFAS and she was trying to kill me lol.' 'My good colleague from the 51st district parked in two spots, including mine, to make sure no one hit his fancy car,' Brixie said, according to The Detroit News, describing both his parking job and her plastic wrap of the car as pranks. 'I Saran wrapped it to give it an extra layer of protection.' According to NBC News, Brixie had not apologized to Maddock. Brixie was barred from parking at the Roosevelt parking structure and from speaking on the House floor following the prank. Thank you, uh, Mr. Clerk, colleagues, colleagues, can I have your attention? Colleagues, I just came in from the parking ramp and there's a um black BMW with the license plate number MMADD. Your hood is open, your lights are on, and your engine is running. Thank you.

Michigan lawmaker penalized after covering Republican colleague's car in plastic wrap

A Democratic lawmaker in Michigan has gotten a bad "wrap" after pulling a prank on a Republican colleague who she said had parked in her spot. Rep. Julie Brixie's floor-speaking privileges were revoked and her parking spot moved after she was caught on camera covering her colleague's BMW in plastic wrap, a House Republican official told NBC News on Tuesday. Brixie and House Democrats did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The Republican official said the penalties, first reported by State Affairs, would remain in place for the foreseeable future. The bizarre incident happened on April 17, when state Rep. Matt Maddock arrived to go to work at the Capitol and parked his car across two spots, one of which was Brixie's, the official said. Video of the parking area that was later released by House Republicans showed Brixie wrapping the midsection of the car in plastic wrap. 'My good colleague from the 51st district parked in two spots, including mine, to make sure no one hit his fancy car,' Brixie told The Detroit News earlier this month. 'I Saran Wrapped it to give it an extra layer of protection." She then appeared to try to draw Maddock's attention to her work by making an announcement on the House floor a short time after the wrapping. 'I just came in from the parking ramp and there's a black BMW" with a vanity license plate, Brixie said. "Your hood is open, your lights are on and your engine is running. Thank you." Maddock responded on social media later that day, saying Brixie "keeps trying to get my attention and I keep telling her I'm married." The penalties mean that Brixie cannot deliver official addresses or remarks on the House floor for the time being, and has to park much farther away. Asked Tuesday if he and Brixie had exchanged apologies, Maddock said in an email, "She hasn't apologized, but I wouldn't expect her to since Democrats get to crime and never say sorry." "I can forgive her for pranking my car, but she should really be sorry for her awful votes that have been ruining Michigan," he added. Maddock's wife, whose car he said he had borrowed that day, also ripped Brixie on social media on the day of the wrapping and announcement on the floor. 'Rep Brixie makes a false statement otherwise known as a LIE in the presence of the entire Michigan House, after wrapping my car in plastic wrap like a 13 year old girl,' Meshawn Maddock wrote in a post on X. 'Democrats arent just soft on crime, like Brixie, they are crime.' Meshawn Maddock, a former state Republican Party co-chair, is among those charged in the Michigan fake electors scheme related to President Donald Trump's 2020 election loss. She pleaded not guilty in the case and has said she believes the charges are politically motivated, The Associated Press reported. This article was originally published on

Michigan State Rep. Julie Brixie (D-Meridian Twp.) is seen plastic wrapping the car of state Rep. Matt Maddock (R-Milford) on April 17, 2025. | Photo: Anna Liz Nichols Towards the beginning of session Thursday, Michigan state Rep. Julie Brixie (D-Meridian Township,) stood up and announced on the House floor that she had just come from the parking ramp that representatives use and a black BMW had its hood open, lights on and engine running. Security footage later released by House Republicans shows Brixie plastic wrapping that vehicle, which belonged to Rep. Matt Maddock (R-Milford). Brixie told multiple media outlets Thursday that Maddock's car had been parked partially in her spot. 'My good colleague from the 51st district parked in two spots, including mine, to make sure no one hit his fancy car. I Saran wrapped it to give it an extra layer of protection,' Brixie said in a statement to media outlets. Maddock had been given two parking spots in the garage as he normally drives a large truck, Gideon D'Assandro, spokesman for Republican House Speaker Matt Hall said in a statement. However on Thursday, Maddock drove a different car and parked it between one of his spots and Brixie's. Michigan Information & Research Service posted photos early in the day of Maddock's plastic-wrapped car, featuring his MMADD vanity plate. Maddock reacted to the incident on the social media platform X throughout the day saying security footage would be released to the police this week, adding Brixie 'keeps trying to get my attention and I keep telling her im married.' Maddock's wife, former Michigan Republican Party Co-Chair Meshawn Maddock, chided Brixie on X for saying that the car her husband had taken to work, which was her car, had the engine running and hood open, when in reality she had tampered with it. 'Rep Brixie makes a false statement otherwise known as a LIE in the presence of the entire Michigan House, after wrapping my car in plastic wrap like a 13 year old girl. Democrats arent just soft on crime, like Brixie, they are crime,' Meshawn Maddock wrote. SUBSCRIBE: GET THE MORNING HEADLINES DELIVERED TO YOUR INBOX

Pup beaten in car has broken bones, human bite mark

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A puppy beaten outside a Memphis restaurant last month is now in the care of Tails of Hope Dog Rescue, recovering from several injuries. The brutal beating of the eight-month-old pup named Brixleigh was captured on camera and shared online. The video showed a man repeatedly hitting a dog in the backseat of a car and the dog crying out in pain. A day after the video surfaced, the dog was surrendered to police, and a warrant was issued for Justin Johnson, 34, for aggravated animal cruelty. Warrant issued for man accused of abusing dog outside of restaurant Tails of Hope said the pup they are now calling Brixie has fractures in both of her femoral heads, or the 'ball' part of her hip joints, a human bite mark on her ear, and lacerations on her body. The rescue group said the fracture to her left femoral head is an old injury, and the break to the right femoral head is new, likely the result of the recent beating. Surgery to repair the damage and physical therapy for Brixie will cost just under $7,800. 'Brixie didn't deserve what happened to her. No creature deserves to be abused,' the group posted on Facebook. 'When we met Brixie, we promised her, as we do with all our dogs, to help them heal and, when they are ready, find them the best forever home possible.' Brixie also needed 20 stitches to close the wound to her ear. Tails of Hope has set up two fundraising pages, Brixie Brixie's Cuddly Fundraiser & Wishlist and Brixie's Recovery Room. They have already raised over $6,000 for the dog. Memphis police are still looking for Justin Johnson. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
