Pup beaten in car has broken bones, human bite mark
The brutal beating of the eight-month-old pup named Brixleigh was captured on camera and shared online. The video showed a man repeatedly hitting a dog in the backseat of a car and the dog crying out in pain.
A day after the video surfaced, the dog was surrendered to police, and a warrant was issued for Justin Johnson, 34, for aggravated animal cruelty.

Tails of Hope said the pup they are now calling Brixie has fractures in both of her femoral heads, or the 'ball' part of her hip joints, a human bite mark on her ear, and lacerations on her body.
The rescue group said the fracture to her left femoral head is an old injury, and the break to the right femoral head is new, likely the result of the recent beating.
Surgery to repair the damage and physical therapy for Brixie will cost just under $7,800.
'Brixie didn't deserve what happened to her. No creature deserves to be abused,' the group posted on Facebook. 'When we met Brixie, we promised her, as we do with all our dogs, to help them heal and, when they are ready, find them the best forever home possible.'
Brixie also needed 20 stitches to close the wound to her ear.
Tails of Hope has set up two fundraising pages, Brixie Brixie's Cuddly Fundraiser & Wishlist and Brixie's Recovery Room. They have already raised over $6,000 for the dog.
Memphis police are still looking for Justin Johnson.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — An orthodontist who formerly practiced in Grandville is now facing federal child exploitation charges. Thomas Shannon, 43, was arrested in Frankfort, Michigan, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Michigan announced Wednesday. He is charged by criminal complaint with sexual exploitation of a minor, attempted sexual exploitation of a minor, possession of child pornography, receipt of child pornography and attempted receipt of child pornography, according to the attorney's office. According to a criminal complaint filed in federal court Monday, a therapist reported in 2021 that a teenager had been sexually exploited. The victim told police that she had received money in exchange for sending illicit images, the complaint continues, and investigators traced the Snapchat and CashApp accounts to Shannon, who lived in Byron Township. Sex offender, busted in sting but not arrested, snagged again In 2022, amid a Kent County investigation, the complaint says Shannon hired a private forensic investigator to search his phone 'in an attempt to prove that he did not possess any child pornography.' 'The examiner, however, found child pornography and turned it over to police,' the U.S. Attorney's Office wrote in a release. Authorities found evidence that Shannon possessed and received child pornography, according to the complaint. Investigators found that Shannon had communicated with multiple minor victims whom he met online, the complaint alleges. One was just 12 years old. The complaint placed most of the victims out of state. Shannon was in January 2023. But according to the federal complaint, he was released on bond. Investigators found that he was on bond for those charges while communicating with one victim — a 13-year-old — in 2024, the complaint alleges. The state case against Shannon is pending. Day 3 of trial for alleged mastermind in Young Dolph murder

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Hernandez Govan, the man accused of orchestrating the death of rapper Young Dolph, is set to appear in court for day three of his trial Wednesday morning. On Tuesday, Angela Arnold, the girlfriend of Cornelius Smith, was the first witness to take the stand. She told the court that to her knowledge, Smith never had direct contact with Big Jook and that he would communicate with Govan to send and receive messages. She also testified she saw Govan at a carwash hours after Young Dolph's death, when Smith picked up a cellphone from Govan he had left in the white Mercedes used in the murder. Various Memphis Police Investigators were then called to testify in court, along with cell phone records. According to the investigators, they went over calls and text records of Goavn, Smith, and Big Jook in the months leading up to the murder and afterward. They say Smith appeared to have several outgoing calls to Govan. But in cross-examination, Govan's defense attorney explained the reasoning for their communication, saying, Govan supplied Smith with various types of pills, and Johnson talked with him because he was an aspiring rapper. Another investigator who testified said detectives went to the airport to execute a search warrant on Big Jook's phone and asked if they could speak to him, but he refused.
