Police and council teaming up to tackle speeding in this area of Bolton

The police and the council are working together to tackle speeding across Bromley Cross and Egerton. The work includes observing traffic and identifying what they can do to reduce excessive speed throughout Blackburn Road and Darwen Road. More specific details about the plans are set to be revealed in the coming months. Cllr Amy Cowen, who represents Bromley Cross and Egerton, said: 'I am excited about the project. 'I am hopeful that it will make a difference and make our roads safer.' The hotspots which will be targeted include a section of Blackburn Road, near Italian restaurant Ciao Baby where a 50mph stretch turns into a 30mph zone. The dealership told The Bolton News they have seen people driving 70mph in the 30mph zone of the road. Another hotspot is close to the Retreat restaurant in Darwen Road. In a comment on a Facebook post from Cllr Cowen about the work, a resident said: 'At last it looks like something is going to be done. 'It's getting to be almost every night now that the 'boy racers' are flying up the village from the TE [The Thomas Egerton pub] towards Darwen.'

Pupils achieve highly at a school where they feel happy and safe

Youngsters are 'happy and safe' in a school which encourages them to reach high. Eagley Junior School has been rated good in all areas, following an Ofsted inspection, which found that part of the school's vision is for 'pupils to be ambitious learners'. The inspection team reported: "This begins with the high levels of ambition that the school has for pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). "The school helps pupils to build resilience and become increasingly independent. "They reflect these qualities in their approach to learning. Many pupils, including those with SEND, achieve well across much of the curriculum." Nik Gandhi (Image: Supplied) In lessons, pupils were described as being 'attentive', with pupils being 'well mannered and considerate" "Pupils trust that staff will support them with any worries or concerns. This helps them to feel happy and safe in school," found Ofsted. The school was praised for playing a strong role in community, including pupils attending a friendship café to speak with and offer company to elderly residents in the area. They have a clear focus on the quality of education that the school provides. They carry out their statutory duties effectively. Staff are proud to be part of the school and appreciate what it does to support their workload and well-being. This includes training that provides them with the confidence to adopt teaching approaches that help pupils get off to a positive start in their education." Headteacher Nik Gandhi said: "As headteacher, I am filled with gratitude for the extraordinary staff and wonderful children who make our school a place of happiness, nurture and success. "It fills me with pride to read how Ofsted recognised the high levels of ambition that we have for all pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities. "We believe that no child has a ceiling to their learning and with the right support, at the right time, all children can flourish.
