Arkansas educators experience Marine workshop in San Diego

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Multiple educators in Arkansas are in California getting a firsthand experience on what it would be like to be a marine so they can share it with their students. This week is the Marine Educators Workshop in San Diego, California. Multiple educators from different states, including the Natural State, are there to gain knowledge about the Marines and later share it with their students. 6 Arkansas teachers learn about life as a Marine On Tuesday, the educators experienced what it would be like to go through a boot camp at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot. 'They will see how recruits go through the process of actually taking the first step of becoming a part of the world's finest fighting force,' Drill Instructor Sgt. Bronson Sahut said. The educators stood on yellow footprints that have an important meaning. 'Tens of thousands of marines have begun their outstanding service on the very footprints you are standing on,' Sahut said. They learned what it took to be a Marine, not just mentally, but also heard how students would qualify for service and be future recruits. Rudy Clemens with the Hot Springs School District said he did the workshop for his students. 'Now I have more to offer my students on why I should go to the Marines and a successful light at the end of the tunnel,' Clemens said. A physical fitness test, including running, lifting weights and completing an obstacle course, was also done by the educators. Jessica Cunningham, who is a teacher with Caddo Academy, said she was surprised to learn that there was a section for Marines who are interested in the band. 'We have a ton of band students at our school, and I can introduce this to them as well,' she said. Every lesson makes many educators excited to take the information back to their students who would like to learn more or would like options. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
