It took me 1:22 to complete today's NYT Mini. This was a fun one, even if it felt as chaotic as me trying to get anything done i nthe kitchen. I totally forgot what EGGS were, apparently, as I initially thought 1 Across was "salt." I had a lucky semi-educated guess with FLOUR but didn't get the rest of the Across clues on my first pass. E FLAT was the key to unlocking everything, I think, as that made me realize 1 Across had to be EGGS. After that, I was able to get the rest of the Down answers no problem. I'll be back with you tomorrow for more NYT Mini fun! Make sure to follow my blog for more coverage of the NYT Mini and other word games, as well as video game news, insights and analysis. Yankees' Jasson Domínguez is accomplishing more than just franchise history
There's been a noticeable difference with Jasson Domínguez this year. Sure, he's learning how to field a new position in left field and understanding what it takes to be a successful big leaguer daily. He's also figuring out how to stay ready, with the New York Yankees having a glut of left-handed outfielders who are either more experienced or outperforming the rookie. Advertisement But the main difference this year for Domínguez is what he's accomplished away from the ballpark. He's now comfortable communicating in English, his second language, without the help of Yankees translator Marlon Abreu. Domínguez would conduct interviews in English last season, but Abreu would be within earshot to help him if and when necessary. This year, Domínguez doesn't think twice about calling over Abreu to stand by his side. 'To be honest, I probably knew how to speak, but I couldn't understand it much,' Domínguez told The Athletic last month. 'I was just afraid to do it. Last year, I was able to talk in English doing my interviews. It was scary for me, though. I didn't want to make a mistake. There are times where I want to say something, but I didn't know how to do it. It's frustrating when you don't know how to speak the language.' What helped the 22-year-old most in his quest to conquer English was watching Marvel movies, anime and the TV show 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine.' Domínguez would repeat phrases over and over from the characters he watched until the words sounded right. He also leaned heavily on Ben Rice, who's fluent in Spanish. Domínguez took English classes at the Yankees' Dominican Academy after signing with the club as a 16-year-old, but he was starting without any experience. 'It was challenging for me,' Domínguez said. 'I didn't know anything about the language. When you start learning the rules and everything, it becomes easier. I feel like there's so much to learn, but I felt like I needed to do it. The hardest part is to speak. You're always going to be scared to speak when it's not your first language.' Domínguez doesn't feel like he's mastered English yet, but he's happy with his progress. The Yankees are also ecstatic with his progress on the field. There was significant hype placed on the former No. 1 prospect entering the season, and he's produced. Domínguez had the best game of his career Friday night in Sacramento, becoming the youngest Yankee in franchise history to hit three home runs in a game. Jasson Domínguez is the youngest player in @Yankees history to record a 3-homer game! 🤩 — MLB (@MLB) May 10, 2025 The first home run came on a hanging changeup from Athletics starter Osvaldo Bido. Domínguez, from the left side, pulled the pitch 398 feet and went back-to-back with Paul Goldschmidt. Dominguez's second homer of the night was notable. Standing on the right side of the plate, he crushed a looping curveball from A's reliever Hogan Harris 431 feet to straightaway center field. That homer was Domínguez's first-career home run from the right side. He entered Friday night's game 7-for-64 hitting as a righty in his career. Yankees manager Aaron Boone recently said he believed the switch-hitter could eventually be just as deadly from his weaker side. Advertisement 'I think he has the makings to be good over there, while acknowledging it's been a struggle there, too, and you're trying to find it at the big-league level,' Boone said over a week ago. 'The good thing about this year, I feel like he's shown signs of really controlling the zone from that side. There's been some swing-and-miss there. He's got a couple of really big hits from that side, too. It's one of those things you got to keep working on and be a little patient with a young player.' With his second homer, Domínguez became the first Yankee since Neil Walker in 2018 to homer from both sides of the plate. His final home run of the night was also his first-career grand slam, on a 98 mph fastball that he turned on while batting from the left side. 'When I hit the third one, I was running and telling myself, 'There's no way,'' Domínguez said, via the YES Network. 'I mean, I had a really good game.' That he did. Domínguez, who raised his OPS to .802, finished with seven RBI in the 10-2 win. And now, Boone has a daily problem, albeit a good one, with trying to figure out the best outfield and lineup configuration. Aaron Judge is special, Trent Grisham has emerged as an early All-Star contender in center field and Cody Bellinger has started to heat up. Rice also needs at-bats as the designated hitter, given his performance. Boone acknowledged the difficulty in trying to make it all work for everyone. 'The one thing that's not perfect is that a lot of them are lefty versus the righty,' Boone said earlier this week. 'So there's not just the obvious, 'This guy here.' So, you're just trying to balance, as best you can, a little bit of the matchup thing, also keeping guys fresh and relevant, while also rewarding the guys that are really playing at a high level.' Domínguez's defense in left field remains a work in progress, but his dedication to improving in all facets of his life should be a sign that he's willing to put in the work to be the best he can be. 'There's definitely something special there, and you're starting to see it unfold,' Yankees starter Will Warren said.

3 underrated Netflix shows you should watch this weekend (May 9-11)
Table of Contents Table of Contents Brooklyn Nine-Nine (2013-2021) Cunk on Earth (2022) The Crown (2016-2023) One of the great and terrible things about Netflix is that the streaming service is filled with stuff. Plenty of it is great, but even among the great stuff, it can be hard to know which thing to pick. We've got you covered, whether you're looking for something short or long, limited or extended. We've pulled together this list of great shows that are well worth your time no matter what you're looking for. Hopefully, you'll find something worth watching without looking through everything on the service. Recommended Videos We also have guides to the best new shows to stream, the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best movies on Amazon Prime Video, the best movies on Max, and the best movies on Disney+. Brooklyn Nine-Nine (2013-2021) You might have complicated feelings about watching a sitcom set in a Brooklyn police precinct, but Brooklyn Nine-Nine is good enough to overcome them. The series, which focuses almost exclusively on a Brooklyn cop who wants to be in Die Hard but realizes just how much police work is paperwork, is brilliant on an episode-to-episode basis. Thanks to brilliant supporting performances from Andre Braugher and Terry Crews, there are few shows ever made that are this funny. At the same time, the show knew how to make you cry on the rare occasions. You can watch Brooklyn Nine-Nine on Netflix. Cunk on Earth (2022) If you are not familiar with Diane Morgan's character Philomena Cunk, Cunk on Earth is a great way to meet her. This British mockumentary traces the entire history of humanity and is a brilliant, silly series that points out all the ways mankind has always been filled with idiots. Cunk, who is intentionally quite thick, often finds herself interviewing genuine experts who don't seem to fully understand what kind of documentary they're in. Part of the joy of the series is watching her work off those more straightforward experts and still get plenty of laughs along the way. You can watch Cunk on Earth on Netflix. The Crown (2016-2023) One of the biggest drama series in the history of Netflix, The Crown might seem like a bit of a chore now that it's over. The most intriguing thing about this series, which chronicles the reign of Queen Elizabeth II from the beginning of her reign all the way to the modern day, is the way it changes casts every two seasons. While it can be a little hagiographic about the queen, The Crown is nonetheless a fascinating look at her ceremonial role and the way she does and does not interact with the history of the United Kingdom. Featuring some truly excellent performances and some awesome drama, The Crown is every bit as great as its biggest fans say. You can watch The Crown on Netflix.
