Why did Shakira cancel two concerts in two days? The reasons behind pop star's nixed Fenway Park, World Pride gigs

On Friday, pop star Shakira called off her concert in Boston's Fenway Park just hours before she was to take the stage. A day later, another of her concerts - this time the opening act for World Pride 2025 - was cancelled just a day before time. The two cancellations have sparked off several speculations about her health as the star had recently taken a nasty fall. However, the real reasons are more logistical. (Also read: Fenway Park concerts canceled: How to get refunds for Shakira and Jason Aldean's shows) One day before the kickoff concert for World Pride 2025 in the US capital, headlining performer Shakira abruptly cancelled due to equipment difficulties. 'We are deeply disappointed that unforeseen circumstances have forced the cancellation' of the concert, the Capital Pride Alliance, the main World Pride organiser, said in a Friday statement. 'Updates about the relocated Opening Ceremony program will be released as soon as they are finalised!' The gig was a part of Shakira's ongoing Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran world tour. The singer seems to have hit multiple road bumps in her world tour, with several concerts having been cancelled at the last minute. A day before this, Boston's Fenway Park concert was also called off. A statement from Fenway Park read: 'Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Shakira, Jason Aldean and Brooks & Dunn performances originally scheduled for May 29th and May 30th, respectively, at Fenway Park have been cancelled. Refunds will be available at your point of purchase. We apologise for the inconvenience." Shakira had taken a nasty fall on stage last week during one of her concerts. The video from the performance went viral, and pretty soon after the cancelled concerts, people linked the two incidents. However, given that both cancellations are due to logistical reasons, there appears to be no connection between the two. Reports have stated that Shakira suffered no injuries in her fall. In fact, videos of the incident show her getting up and performing right away. A statement from Shakira read: 'Due to circumstances beyond my control, I am sad and heartbroken that I will not be able to be in Washington, DC with you tomorrow. I hope that I can come back to DC, as soon as I am able.' She added, 'Meanwhile, please know that I am eternally thankful for you unconditional support.'

Shakira concert canceled in Washington DC a day after nixed show in Boston

Shakira concert canceled in Washington DC a day after nixed show in Boston Show Caption Hide Caption Shakira cancels Boston concert hours before showtime Hours before doors opened, ticket seller Live Nation announced that the Shakira and Jason Aldean and Brooks & Dunn concert had been cancelled. Cover Media A day after her Boston concert was canceled, Shakira's tour is suffering another setback. The popstar's scheduled show in Washington, D.C. — which was part of her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour and WorldPride DC 2025's Welcome Concert — on May 31 has also been canceled. The reasoning was "due to complications with the previous show in Boston," according to a statement released by Nationals Park May 30. "Shakira's full tour production cannot be transported to Washington, D.C. in time for her scheduled performance," the statement read. "As a result, the D.C. show has been canceled. Despite every effort to make it happen, it is not possible to move forward as planned." Ticketholders will automatically receive refunds for Ticketmaster and purchases. Those who purchased from a third party should contact the seller. Shakira shared a statement about her heartbreak over the show's cancellation, writing, "Due to circumstances beyond my control, I am sad and heartbroken that I will not be able to be in Washington, D.C. with you tomorrow. I hope that I can come back to D.C., as soon as I am able. "Meanwhile, please know that I am eternally thankful for your unconditional support." Why Shakira's Boston concert was canceled In a May 30 statement to USA TODAY, Live Nation said the cancelation of several shows at Fenway Park was due to issues discovered during routine checks before the Shakira show. "Structural elements were identified as not being up to standard, so the shows were canceled. All team members are safe," the statement said. The issue also affected upcoming shows from Jason Aldean and Brooks & Dunn. Shakira is next scheduled to perform in Atlanta June 2. The Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour kicked off in South America in February and began its North American leg May 13. Opening up about the work that went into the tour, Shakira recently told USA TODAY, "I've worked so much on every detail of this show. I'm building the biggest setlist of my career. "There are going to be visuals I created, the narrative and the details of them. There are 145 people on this tour to make it happen every night," she explained. "I've created original music for the transitions in the show, new choreography and arrangements. I have 13 costume changes, so all of what I've learned these years of making music, I feel like this is a recap of that journey." Contributing: Anthony Robledo and Melissa Ruggieri, USA TODAY

Shakira, Jason Aldean, Brooks & Dunn concerts at Fenway Park canceled over stage safety failure

In a disappointing turn of events for fans, three major concerts scheduled for this week at Boston's iconic Fenway Park were abruptly canceled due to serious stage safety concerns. Live Nation confirmed that performances by global superstar Shakira, country music heavyweight Jason Aldean, and legendary duo Brooks & Dunn were called off after a routine safety inspection revealed that key structural components of the stage were not up to code. 'All team members are safe,' the event promoter stated, adding that the decision was made to prioritize the safety of performers, crew, and attendees. Shakira was set to launch the 2025 Fenway Concert Series on Thursday night as part of her "Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran" (Women No Longer Cry) tour. Her excitement had been palpable just the day before, when she posted on X about her Boston show, teasing surprise appearances by and Wyclef Jean. Aldean and Brooks & Dunn were scheduled to co-headline Friday night's show. It would have been their first time sharing the Fenway stage. Aldean, who is currently on his "Full Throttle Tour 2025", had called the opportunity to play alongside Brooks & Dunn 'one for the ages.' According to Boston ABC affiliate WCVB, the cancelations were triggered when parts of the stage reportedly collapsed during rehearsals. A subsequent inspection by Boston's Inspectorial Services found the structure to be unsafe for use. Fenway Park and the performers shared statements confirming the cancelations, with refund information provided for ticket holders. Disappointed fans, some of whom had traveled from out of state or even overseas, had already begun arriving at the venue when news broke. 'We just got the news that the concert has been canceled like nine minutes ago,' said a fan from Colombia. Another attendee, attending what would have been their first-ever concert at the age of 63, shared their dismay with local news outlet WBZ. This marks yet another delay for Shakira's fans, some of whom had already rescheduled plans after her earlier tour date shifts. Representatives for the performers and Boston city officials have not yet commented further on the incident. Refunds are available at the original point of purchase.
