Binghamton sentenced to 11.5 years for weapons charges

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – A Binghamton man will spend nearly 12 years in New York State Prison for weapons charges. Broome County District Attorney Paul Battisti announced that Dorian Raysor, 33, was sentenced to 11 ½ years in prison to be followed by 5 years of post-release supervision for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, and Tampering with Physical Evidence. The sentence is the result of an investigation conducted by the Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force. On the day of the incident, Task Force members were conducting surveillance in a hotspotarea of Binghamton when they observed Raysor adjusting an object in the front of his waistband. Upon making contact with him, Raysor fled the scene on foot. During the pursuit, he discarded a handgun and a holster. Officers later recovered a loaded FN .45 caliber handgun. 'This conviction is the result of strong, coordinated police work and a commitment to keeping illegally possessed firearms off our streets. Mr. Raysor's actions posed a serious threat to public safety, and this sentence reflects our office's dedication to holding violent offenders accountable. I thank the jury for their service and the SIU Task Force for their tireless work,' said Battisti. BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – An Endicott man is expected to be sentenced to five years in New York State Prison after pleading guilty to attempted criminal possession of a weapon in Broome County Court on Tuesday. 28-year-old Andre Gould, of Endicott, was arrested on April 11, 2024, by members of the Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force after a search of his apartment at 107 N. Roosevelt Ave in the Village of Endicott led to the discovery of a loaded handgun in Gould's possession. The search was serving a bench warrant for criminal mischief in the City of Binghamton. Gould appeared in Broome County Court on Tuesday, May 27, where he pleaded guilty to Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree. He is expected to be sentenced to five years in New York State Prison followed by five years of post-release supervision. BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – A Binghamton man pleaded guilty to criminal possession of a weapon in Broome County Court Friday. 24-year-old Xavier Tappan-Bright, of Binghamton, pleaded guilty to the charge related to an investigation in January, where the Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force discovered a loaded .380 caliber Ruger pistol with six rounds in the magazine while executing a search warrant of an apartment at 10 Felters Road in Binghamton. As a second violent felony offender, Tappan-Bright is expected to be sentenced to eight years in New York State prison, followed by five years of post-release supervision. Sentencing is scheduled for August 28, 2025, in Broome County Court. The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force led the investigation. The Task Force is made up of members from the Binghamton Police Department, Broome County Sheriff's Department, Endicott Police Department, and Johnson City Police Department. TOWN OF UNION, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – A Town of Union man is facing several felony drug and weapons charges after investigators located firearms and cocaine during a search warrant. On Monday, the Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force (SIU) announced the arrest of 35-year-old Gary Lanzo. On May 9, SIU executed a search warrant at 2 Donald Street Apartment 2 in the Town of Union. During the search, investigators located the following items: Approximately 3.4 grams of Cocaine Digital Scales Packaging Material Cutting Agent A Ruger .45 Caliber Revolver A Kel-Tec 9mm Handgun As a result of the investigation, Lanzo was arrested and charged with the following: Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, a Class B Felony Three Counts of Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia in the Second Degree, Class A Misdemeanors Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a Class C Felony Two Counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, Class D Felonies Lanzo was arraigned and remanded to the Broome County Jail, where he remains in custody. BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – A Binghamton man appeared in Broome County Court for sentencing last week. District Attorney Paul Battisti announced that 23-year-old Dekwaun Hicks was sentenced to six years in New York State prison, followed by three years of post-release supervision for Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree. On June 26, 2024, members of the Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force and the Binghamton Police Department's Community Response Team conducted a vehicle stop in the area of Varick Street in the City of Binghamton after receiving information that Hicks was in possession of a firearm. Officers recovered a loaded Taurus 9mm handgun and additional ammunition as well as methamphetamine pills from the vehicle. According to the District Attorney, Hicks was originally expected to receive a three-year sentence, followed by two-years post release supervision. However, prior to sentencing and while out on bail, he was arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, resulting in the enhanced sentence. 'This case sends a clear message: those who endanger our community by illegally possessing firearms will face serious consequences,' said Battisti. 'Public safety demands accountability, and our office will continue to act decisively against illegal gun possession and drug-related offenses.'
