Brown County Emergency Management apologizes for alert sent to people outside of warning area
DE PERE, Wis. (WFRV) – Brown County officials are apologizing to residents after an emergency alert was sent to people outside of the warning area on Wednesday morning.
Brown County Emergency Management posted the apology about six minutes after the initial alert rang out on phones across the county at 10:02 a.m., stating the situation at .

'People outside the warning area got alerted,' the release said. 'We apologize for the unintended message if you received it.'
An initial alert was issued to a small area; however, officials realized that people far outside the area had been alerted and a cancellation was sent. The situation at Scray Hill Park had quickly been resolved after the initial message, and then an all-call went out to ensure the area was safe.
Those who got an incorrect alert were reportedly informed as well.
Officials say that they are working with the federal partners that own the alert system to find out what caused the accidental overspray.

'An alert went out meant for the area of Scray Hill Park for an active police situation. The situation has been resolved. People outside the warning area got alerted. We apologize for the unintended message if you received it.
FOLLOW UP: We are working with our federal partners who own the system to determine the cause of the overspray. To clarify, the first alert was issued to a small area, but it was immediately determined that others well outside that initial area were being alerted. In response, a cancelation for that message was sent. The police situation happened to get quickly resolved after the first message was sent. An all call was then sent to ensure everyone was informed that the situation was safe, and for those that got an alert in error were informed as well.'
