Man pleads guilty in 2022 killing outside Kansas City, Kansas workplace
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 25-year-old man has pleaded guilty in the 2022 Kansas City, Kansas shooting death of .
According to court records, Jaylen Butler entered a guilty plea in Wyandotte County Court on Wednesday, July 9, on the felony charge of voluntary manslaughter.

The shooting was reported on the night of June 13, 2022, at Brown Strauss Steel on Kindleberger Road, in KCK's Fairfax District.
Police said the business was open when they responded to the shooting.
Officers found the victim, a Kansas City, Missouri teenager, later identified as Johnson, in the parking lot. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators said Johnson worked at Brown Strauss Steel.
Butler was initially charged with second-degree murder on June 16, 2022. That charge was later amended to voluntary manslaughter on April 16, 2025.
The case did go to a jury trial that began on March 31 and ended with a mistrial on April 3. The case was then reinstated on April 16.

A sentencing date for Butler has been scheduled for 10 a.m. on Aug. 1, 2025, in Wyandotte County Court.
