How likely is a monster fantasy season from Braelon Allen?

Yahoo Fantasy's Matt Harmon and Justin Boone discuss Jets RB Braelon Allen and if he can take over the Jets backfield at some point this season. Hear the full conversation on the 'Yahoo Fantasy Forecast' podcast - and subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you listen. View more Video Transcript And Bruce Hall was the lead back, and Raylen Allen was out there working with him, and Raylen Allen was the more effective back between the two. Raylen Allen is the one that's been getting all the camp buzz. You have guys like Albert Breer tweeting that everything they're hearing from their sources is that Raylen Allen is in store for a monster year this year, and that what we're seeing in the preseason in terms of his efficiency is showing that he could potentially do that. And then you're wondering, maybe we're doing too much, but you wonder about some of these guys that had the rumors off season that they could be on the trade block. Bruce Hall is one of them. And your question is, is this a scenario where they really like their young 21 year old, you know, 6'1, I think he's 235 pounds, this like tank of a running back that is just maybe coming into his own that has like a little Derrick Henry to his game, potentially maybe. Want to hand the keys over to him, especially if they like Isaiah Davis that much. So you'll wonder, does Bruce Hall get moved, maybe not even before the season, maybe during the season, once, you know, things aren't going great, they move him before the trade deadline. I think there's a lot of ways that this backfield could go, but Raylen Allen to me is one of the spots that I am more than happy to grab him, where he's going in drafts with the potential to give you flex numbers as part of a committee, or to maybe at some point take this over in one of several ways that that could happen. He's a guy that if I'm going like hero RB or zero RB, I just did a draft yesterday where I didn't really plan to do either of those, and I ended up going running backs very late. Raylen Allen was like a must draft at that point because he is one of those guys that could turn into a starter potentially this year or at worst, give me some flex production until I can find somebody else to be a starter for me. Why Breece Hall may not live up to fantasy ADP

Yahoo Fantasy analyst Matt Harmon and contributor Chris Allen explain why the Jets running back may not fully bounce back for fantasy managers in 2025. Hear the full conversation on the 'Yahoo Fantasy Forecast' podcast - and subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you listen. View more Video Transcript Bruce Hall, am I being hypocritical? Am I being hypocritical and kind of saying, I don't really know if I buy the full bounce back for Bruce Hall. Look, nobody's asking you to believe he's gonna be a top five player in fantasy like he was drafted as last year, but, um, I do think he, I do think he is a proven good talent. He's proven good NFL play before. He's healthy right now. Um, but I'm a little concerned just about maybe the Bray and Allen of it all kind of eating into the touches here. I'm concerned about the pass catching upside with Justin Fields under center, and just how many damn points are the Jets going to score this year is another thing that keeps me kind of a little bit pessimistic about some of their players when they're going really, really high in fantasy. So Bruce Hall, we showed him earlier as the running back 13 in consensus rankings. I'm a little bit below that. Am I being hypocritical in my Bruce Hall stance? No, I don't think you're being hypocritical. I share the same concerns about the Jets' offense as a whole and actually noted it in a piece of my quarterback draft strategy that should be up on Yahoo right now. Go ahead and check it out if you get a chance, because I, at least let's look at the red flags, uh. Tanner Engstrom, new OC for the Jets, the guy that couldn't get the job after Ben Johnson left, so they went out and instead they hired outside. He didn't go to Ben with Ben Johnson's Chicago, so he gets the Jets job. OK, that's something of a concern, but all right. Let's also think that, well, what would Engstrom try and do to help Justin Fields evolve as a passer? Would I assume rational coaching, let's see if we can pull on some of those play action levers. Let's look at, see if we can pull on some RPO levers. I mean, at least for play action specifically. Those are the things that helped Jared Goff be better. I mean, they allow him to deal with pressure, allow him to push the ball to, or at least get the ball to Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jamison Williams, Sam LaPorta, insert name here. What type of concepts is Engstrom going to try and get to Fields in order to make him get the ball over to Garrett Wilson? And the same thing goes for Bruce Hall. So I think that even though Bruce Hall has shown himself to be something of an efficient pass sketch in the past. And we know that the explosive running or rushing rate is also a talent that he has, like in his back pocket. But if Justin Fields is, incapable of sustaining drives, incapable of continuing to push the ball or keep the Jets offense on the field, you're already hearing in practice they're struggling against their own defense. How's it going to work once they get on the field? So I, I do think that you're, I don't think you're being hypocritical at all when saying that we should at least pump the brakes on Bruce Hall this year. Close

Can the Jets compete with Justin Fields at QB?

Yahoo Sports NFL analyst Nate Tice and fantasy analyst Matt Harmon discuss New York's move to sign the veteran quarterback and what it means for the Jets offense in 2025. Hear the full conversation on 'Football 301' - and subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube or wherever you listen. View more Another quarterback move was Justin Fields, signing with the Jets for 2 years, $40 million.30 million dollars guaranteed. Seemed like the Steelers kind of screwed themselves here, uh, like they kind of with the whole Russell Wilson Foosie stuff, and then maybe, uh, I think even Adam Schefter kind of reported when Twitter was down and everybody was reporting what he was saying on TV. It was that Fields wanted guarantees essentially that he is QB one, like uncontested QB one, no competition, hey, you're signing me, this is it. And I don't know what happened there, but he goes to the Jets, must get those assurances. Kind of a little I, I, I, I'm thumbs middle here. Jets need a starter, uh, and, and I think for fields it's kind of a get ready to run some more. Get ready to run a little bit and I'm, you know, I got some cool running backs. There's some offensive line pieces we need Olu Foana to get back. They have Garrett Wilson still. They need more pass catchers on top of that. This does kind of reek of defensive-minded. Head coach Core, you know, like, oh, we got a running quarterback. We're gonna establish this so got to defend. We need one. Yeah, exactly. We've got 3, we've got 3, running backs here that I think are, uh, you know, varying degrees of interesting. Obviously Bruce Hall's Bruce Hall, but Baylon Allen and Isaiah Davis gave him some pop last year. All the players that Fields has worked with in the NFL so far, I think Wilson's probably the best separator that Fields has played with. Uh, he's probably. A notch above DJ Moore in that regard. Although Moore's, uh, there's just there's just different players, um, I think I think it's like it's so hard to he's kind of like his own little category. I know, yeah. So Fields, uh, and Wilson, I'm interested to see how that connection develops because otherwise, I do think they're gonna establish. push it on that side of the ball. Yeah, it just seems like that they're going to be run first. They know that this, they're not going to win it all this this year. This is a revamped team all the way. This is a team that's trying to eat their vegetables, I think, and maybe not get pot committed with a quarterback and saying like, oh, now we got to take a guy in the draft or we got to, you know, be the darnle team again, even though that would never happen or try to do Kirk Cousins desperation or something of that sort. So. I, I'm interested. Fields, I think Fields is still an exciting player. He's very imperfect, uh, but you know, you can have some exciting plays out of it, especially if you just have a system around him. Let him throw go balls, let them throw vertically, let him throw outside and let them run around a little bit and hopefully he just doesn't take too many sacks. That's kind of the Justin Fields experience. Close
