'Want my captain back': Bruins' fans spark a debate as Brad Marchand leads the Florida Panthers to Stanley Cup Finals

Brad Marchand, the former captain of the Boston Bruins, spent sixteen years with the team before he was traded to the Florida Panthers. While the Florida Panthers defeated the Carolina Hurricanes and have reached the 2025 Stanley Cup Finals for the second time in a row, many Bruins' fans are unable to believe that Brad Marchand is no longer a part of their team. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Brad Marchand leads the Florida Panthers to the 2025 Stanley Cup Finals but Bruins' fans want him back Recently, a fan account of Brad Marchand made a post on X that read as, 'don sweeney i hope you are miserable for the rest of your life and that the bruins never win anything as long as you're a gm for what you did to brad marchand' and this has sparked a debate. A fan commented, 'Letting players leave for nothing is exactly a reason the bruins have no depth in prospects. He actually did the right thing', while another fan wrote, 'Sweeney could've held onto him and continued contract negotiations and maybe Canada would've made it to the final instead of Switzerland..' A third fan wrote, 'I'm glad he's doing well in Florida but I just want my captain back!' However, some fans have supported the Boston Bruins' move to trade Brad Marchand to the Florida Panthers. A fan wrote, 'Wrong. When a long term deal wasn't in the cards, Marchand wanted a chance at another Cup. Sweeney did him a favor and wrangled a deal with Marchand's team of choice to pursue a Cup without much leverage on trade deadline day. If he gets his Cup, you may see him return as C for the Bs.' Another fan commented, 'Sweeney did him a solid, they couldn't agree on new deal and moved him to contender , its wasn't marchand's fault the bad drafting and roster management caught up to Sweeney.' While joining a new team might have been tough for Brad Marchand in the initial few weeks, the star player is now having the time of his life in the Florida Panthers. Now, all eyes are on the Florida Panthers as the team is all set to face the Edmonton Oilers for Game 1 of the 2025 Stanley Cup Finals on Wednesday. Also Read:

Who is Jordan Woolery? What to know of UCLA softball slugger ahead of WCWS

Who is Jordan Woolery? What to know of UCLA softball slugger ahead of WCWS Show Caption Hide Caption Texas Tech's NiJaree Canady and Tennessee's Karlyn Pickens lead WCWS players to watch The Oklahoman's Jenni Carlson highlights several Women's College World Series key players to watch. UCLA softball is back in the Women's College World Series for the second consecutive season — its first as a Big Ten member — after winning the Columbia Super Regional. But that didn't look like it was going to be the case for the ninth-seeded Bruins at approximately 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, May 24 when they trailed No. 8 South Carolina, 4-1, going into the bottom of the seventh inning at Carolina Softball Stadium at Beckham Field. That was until Bruins slugger Jordan Woolery stepped up to the plate. REQUIRED READING: Jordan Woolery hits walk-off home run vs South Carolina to keep UCLA WCWS hopes alive The Bruins' All-Big Ten First-Team selection would hit a two-run walk-off home run with two outs in the inning to give her team another day of life in the NCAA softball tournament. UCLA would then upset South Carolina in the "if necessary" Game 3 one day later for its NCAA-leading 33rd trip to the Women's College World Series. Can Woolery now continue that postseason magic in Oklahoma City and help lead UCLA to its first national championship since 2010? The first test for that will be at 9:30 p.m. ET on Thursday against No. 16 Oregon at Devon Park. Here's what to know on Woolery ahead of the Bruins' opening game at the Women's College World Series: Who is Jordan Woolery? Jordan Woolery is a starting infielder for UCLA softball and one of the nation's top hitters. The Walnut Creek, California, native has been a staple in the Bruins' starting lineup each of her three years in Westwood, as she has started all 177 career games in which she has appeared in. Woolery was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Year in 2023 after leading all freshmen in the conference with a .390 batting average and 10 home runs. She finished with 20 multi-hit games her freshman season at UCLA, which ranked second on the team. She followed up her stellar freshman campaign with a strong sophomore season that earned her All-Pac-12 First-Team honors. Things have taken off a bit for Woolery this season, as she has posted career-high numbers all around for the Bruins. She was named a Top 10 finalist for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award, one of two Bruins who made the list. Perhaps her biggest hit of the season came in Game 2 of the Columbia Super Regional when she connected on that first-pitch fastball for a two-run walk-off home run, which ultimately extended the Bruins' season one extra day as they faced elimination. Her home run against the Gamecocks ended a 0-for-6 stint at the plate in the Columbia Super Regional for Woolery. "Coach always says the game comes back around," Woolery told the Los Angeles Times after Game 2's win. "I've had a rough two days, so it was just trusting that was eventually going to come through. I just wanted to have my teammates' backs today." Jordan Woolery stats Woolery is currently posting career-high numbers in batting average (.415), slugging percentage (.896) and on-base percentage (.504). She enters the WCWS tied for first in the country with 86 RBIs recorded on the season and in a four-way tie for seventh for home runs among all Division I hitters at 23. Here's a year-by-year breakdown of Woolery's career stats at UCLA: 2023: .390 batting average/.646 slugging percentage/.455 on-base percentage with 64 hits, 46 RBIs, 26 runs scored and 22 extra-base hits (10 home runs) .390 batting average/.646 slugging percentage/.455 on-base percentage with 64 hits, 46 RBIs, 26 runs scored and 22 extra-base hits (10 home runs) 2024: .314 batting average/.560 slugging percentage/.400 on-base percentage with 50 hits, 36 RBIS, 20 runs scored and 18 extra-base hits (10 home runs) .314 batting average/.560 slugging percentage/.400 on-base percentage with 50 hits, 36 RBIS, 20 runs scored and 18 extra-base hits (10 home runs) 2025: .415 batting average/.896 slugging percentage/.504 on-base percentage with 86 RBIs, 80 hits, 56 runs scored and 43 extra-base hits (23 home runs) Get the latest sports news delivered conveniently to your inbox. 'They're shooting rats as hard as they can': Paul Maurice cracks up over Panthers aiming rats at Brad Marchand

The ice crew collects hundreds of plastic rats after the Florida Panthers defeated the New Jersey Devils in Game Two of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals during the 2012 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs at the BankAtlantic Center on April 15, 2012 in Sunrise, Florida. Photo byIf you thought the Florida Panthers' rat-throwing tradition was just some quirky playoff ritual, think again. This postseason, the Panthers have turned their famous plastic rats into weapons literally launching them at their rivals, especially Bruins' agitator Brad Marchand. And the best part? Their head coach Paul Maurice is not only on board, he's cracking up over the chaos. The Panthers are literally launching plastic rats at Brad Marchand and it's become a full-blown thing It's not just tradition anymore. Florida's playoff celebrations have taken on a whole new level of chaos and the Bruins' Brad Marchand is right in the splash zone. After every win, Panthers players have been tossing (read: sniping) plastic rats in his direction during the postgame scene. And they're not doing it gently either. 'They're shooting them as hard as they can,' head coach Paul Maurice told reporters. 'They're not flipping them... it's funny as hell.' That's not just approval, that's encouragement. And in a series that's already dripping with tension, it's the perfect sprinkle of petty that fans are eating up. From locker room legend to playoff weapon, the rats are having a moment The Panthers' rat obsession isn't just some weird playoff gimmick, it's NHL history. It all started during the 1995–96 season when Panthers forward Scott Mellanby killed a rat in the locker room before a game, literally slapped it with his stick. Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Own A Barrel of Whisky With Average Annual Returns of 10.15%* Whisky Investors Download Undo That same night, he scored two goals using the 'rat stick,' and teammates started calling it a 'Rat Trick.' The story took off like wildfire. Fans went all in. They started bringing rubber rats to home games, chucking them onto the ice after every goal. It became Florida's signature move, a chaotic, rodent-filled celebration that defined their Cinderella run to the Stanley Cup Final that year. The NHL eventually had to tweak the rules to prevent delays (rats are only allowed after wins now), but the tradition stuck. And in the 2024–25 playoffs? It's made a full-blown comeback with a spicy twist. Also read - Brendan Shanahan steps down after 11 seasons with the Maple Leafs: What's next for the franchise legend? 'I want to keep my strength and conditioning up,' said Swayman, who was part of the American team at the 4 Nations Face-Off. 'I want to be one of the best athletes in the room, and I want to push my teammates, I want to push myself, and I know that that's going to get us success.' Lohrei's workload took a huge jump this season, playing in 77 games and registering five goals and 33 points.
