Watch: 'The Rainmaker' trailer reimagines John Grisham novel

June 4 (UPI) -- USA Network is previewing The Rainmaker, a new series that reimagines the 1995 novel by John Grisham. Grisham's book previously inspired Francis Ford Coppola's 1997 film starring Matt Damon and Claire Danes. The upcoming series features Milo Callaghan as Rudy Baylor, Lana Parrilla as Bruiser, John Slattery as Leo Drummond and Madison Iseman as Sarah Plankmore. The trailer shows the fallout of Rudy's firing from Leo Drummond's firm on his first day. He gets another job with Bruiser, but his case pits him against girlfriend Sarah, who works for his former boss. "What happens when Leo finds out that my boyfriend is suing his prized client," Sarah says in the teaser. "...You need to drop this case." "Or what?" he responds. "What is it about this story that keeps drawing people in?" said showrunner Michael Seitzman, referencing the book's multiple adaptations. "Maybe it's the David-and -Goliath legal thriller, the dangerous romance or the coming-of-age story. For me, above all, it's the characters. They jumped off the page in John's book and were a joy to expand upon in our show." P.J. Byrne, Dan Fogler, Wade Briggs and Robyn Cara also star. The series premieres Aug. 15.

Artist begins transforming town centre buildings into musical murals

IT WAS after several conversations with members of some of Stourbridge's iconic musical exports that one artist birthed a creative idea to put the town back at the forefront of the country's artistic scene. Cal, a Stourbridge-based artist who has been active for over two decades, has begun a project painting murals of the logos of several bands born out of the town on buildings for all to see. The first completed work, an ode to rockers Pop Will Eat Itself, now adorns the side of the Direct2Print building on Foster Street, with the second mural of alt-rock band, The Wonder Stuff, almost ready to be unveiled just off the ring road on the side of The Bridge House. 'The Poppies' painting can be enjoyed by more than just Stourbridge locals, with an image of the mural already hanging in the prestigious V&A museum in London. An image of the Poppies mural is hanging in the V&A in London (Image: Olivia Warburton / NQ) Cal said it is important the town celebrates its rich musical heritage and it was about time Stourbridge 'made some noise' about itself. He said: 'We're known all over the UK for our music – I went to Tenby not that long ago and spoke to a woman who instantly knew Stourbridge for its bands. 'We're bigger than we think we are, and I don't want Stourbridge to be just another clone town with no identity. 'We should be celebrating our music and the arts and trying to promote creativity more.' Five bands will be featured in Cal's project: Pop Will Eat Itself, The Wonder Stuff, Ned's Atomic Dustbin, Diamond Head and, hopefully, an ode to a certain local, Robert Plant. The artist, who goes only by his first name, said the next mural on his to-do list is for Ned's Atomic Dustbin, with the band encouraging him to 'go big or go home' with the design. Cal, who is doing the work voluntarily, thanked the local businesses who have made his project possible, and the people of Stourbridge for their warm reception to his work. He said: 'Without Archava Scaffolding, I would not have been able to get up the buildings, and none of this would be possible. The Wonder Stuff mural is almost complete (Image: Olivia Warburton / NQ) 'Also the businesses, so far Dirct2Print and Bridge House, who have been up for me using their walls, and Brierley Printers and the John Porter Community Fund, who have been a massive help. 'It's been a community effort, and so far, everyone has been brilliant about the work. 'Of course, it's thanks to the bands as well – these guys are still selling out tours and bringing out new music and deserve to be celebrated.' Timed rather perfectly, the Poppies mural in particular coincides with the band's 40th anniversary and marks the release of their new single, 'Bruiser', which was released yesterday (May 27).

Who Is Severance's Miss Huang? EP and Co-Stars Hail the ‘Incredible,' Theramin-Playing Teen Sarah Bock

'Why are you a child?' 'Because of the year I was born.' More from TVLine Severance Creator Opens Up About 'Troubling' Consent Issues Raised in Episode 4, 'Really Devastating' Aftermath of Retreat Was FBI Agent Reckless? Is New NBC Drama Giving PLL? Did Grammys' Doechii Conjure Harry Potter? Who Covets Severance Parka? More Qs! Severance Stars Breaks Down That Intense Episode 4 Outing, [Spoiler]'s Villainous Turn - Plus, Grade It! That exchange in the Severance Season 2 premiere gave viewers an early indicator of what they could expect from Lumon's new, young and unflappable deputy manager, Miss Huang. But she has multitudes, we would learn, most recently by way of the theramin recital she gave during the MDR team's Episode 4 ORTBO retreat. 'I did learn how to play' the motion-operated instrument, Miss Huang's portrayer, Sarah Bock, told Vulture. 'I play piano and guitar, so I figured I could maybe pick it up quickly, but it was definitely more complicated than I was expecting.' Bock, age 18, is a student at Northwestern University, and her few previous acting credits include mostly voice work but also a role in the award-winning 2022 indie Bruiser, which stars All American's Jalyn Hall. So, how did she land a plum role on one of TV's most acclaimed series? Severance executive producer Ben Stiller, speaking about Miss Huang's casting, told TVLine, 'This wonderful young actress came in and auditioned, and I was just blown away by her. 'She's got such poise and such intelligence and such sensitivity, and yet also has the ability to put forth this imposing facade, too,' the EP added. 'She's just been a gift to the show. I love her.' Adam Scott, speaking with TVLine alongside Stiller, chimed in that Bock is 'excellent' — though he conveniently failed to mention his repeated losses to her at a popular New York Times puzzle game. As Tramell Tillman, who plays Miss Huang's supervisor, Seth Milchick, shared with TVLine, Bock 'is so intelligent, and a wiz at Wordle! She and Adam play all the time, and she she beats him all the time, just like that.' As a castmate, 'She's incredible, absolutely incredible,' Tillman said. 'It was such a joy to be able to work with her. She's very professional, very funny, very inquisitive about this world and what we're doing, and always willing to take direction. 'The relationship between Milchick and Miss Huang is not as pleasant as the relationship between Tramell and Sarah…,' the actor noted with a chuckle, 'but it's been a blast to work with her.' A somewhat-tense meeting between Milchick and Miss Huang in Severance Episode 6, premiering Friday, Feb. 21, will shed light on the nature of her employment at Lumon. Ahead of that, a special event held in Episode 5 (out Feb. 14) will present an opportunity for more theramin playing, though Miss Huang will be irked to be snubbed of TVLine Yellowjackets' Tawny Cypress Talks Episode 4's Tai/Van Reunion: 'We're All Worried About Taissa' Vampire Diaries Turns 10: How Real-Life Plot Twists Shaped Everything From the Love Triangle to the Final Death Vampire Diaries' Biggest Twists Revisited (and Explained)
