KUALA LUMPUR, June 4 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had the opportunity to visit the Sultan of Brunei, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, yesterday afternoon, before His Majesty departed for Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei yesterday. Anwar, through a post on his Facebook page, stated that Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah is in good condition and his recovery process is proceeding smoothly after being discharged from the National Heart Institute (IJN) last Saturday. 'May His Majesty be granted good health and continue to rule the Nation of Brunei Darussalam,' the post read. Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah arrived in Malaysia on May 25 to attend the 46th Asean Summit and Related Summits, which took place at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on May 26 and 27. His Majesty had been resting at IJN since May 27 due to fatigue and then rested at a hotel after being discharged from IJN. — Bernama

Brunei ruler discharged from hospital, resting in Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR, June 1 (Reuters) - Brunei's ruler, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, has been discharged from a Malaysian hospital and will rest for several days in Malaysia, the Brunei Prime Minister's Office said late on Saturday. The sultan, 78, has returned to the Grand Hyatt Hotel to rest following advice from medical experts before returning to Brunei, it said in a statement. He was admitted to the National Heart Institute for fatigue during a meeting of Southeast Asian leaders last week in Kuala Lumpur. It is not known when the ruler will return to Brunei. The queen and other members of the royal family were with him, the statement said. The sultan holds multiple roles in the small Southeast Asian nation, serving as Brunei's prime minister, armed forces commander, finance minister, foreign minister and defense minister.

(Bernama pic) PUTRAJAYA : Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim says Brunei's Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah is in good condition after being admitted to hospital yesterday due to fatigue. The 78-year-old sultan was admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) in Kuala Lumpur, where he is expected to remain under observation for several days. 'I'm sorry I'm late … I went to IJN to visit the Sultan of Brunei,' Anwar said at an event here. 'He is currently resting… (and) he is in good condition.' He was speaking to reporters at the closing of the Asean Auditors Conference 2025 at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre. In a statement later, he said the sultan's medical team had advised against visitors for the time being, except for members of the Brunei royal family. Yesterday, reporters had inquired about the sultan's absence from the Asean-Gulf Cooperation Council-China Summit amid reports that he had been admitted to IJN. The sultan occupies multiple key roles in Brunei, serving as prime minister, finance minister, and defence minister, among others.

The 78-year-old sultan was admitted to the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur and will stay there for several days on the advice of Malaysian medical experts, his office said. 'His majesty… is in good health,' it said in a statement. 'His majesty has been feeling tired.' The hospitalisation of the sultan, who has ruled Brunei since 1967, was earlier confirmed by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, current chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and host of this week's leaders' summit. 'He's a little bit tired and resting,' Anwar told a press conference, without elaborating. The sultan was once the world's wealthiest man and remains hugely popular in the oil-rich nation on the island of Borneo, despite holding a firm grip on power in the country of nearly half a million people. The sultan holds multiple roles in Brunei, serving also as its prime minister, armed forces commander, finance minister, foreign minister and defence minister. Under his rule, Brunei gained full independence from Britain in 1984 and has seen a rise in living standards to among the highest levels in Asia.
