Aaron Paul Shares The Relentless Prank Bryan Cranston Would Pull On The Set Of ‘Breaking Bad': 'He Would Get Everybody In On It'

In spite of the often dark and grueling material of AMC's seminal crime drama Breaking Bad, it's nice to know stars Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul had a little fun on set — in the former's case, perhaps a bit too much fun. During a recent appearance on Sean Evans' popular Hot Ones series, on which Cranston has previously appeared, Paul relayed a hilarious behind-the-scenes tidbit, a relentless hallmark of production in which his co-star would repeatedly prank him about his character's death. More from Deadline Mark Johnson Re-Ups AMC Deal, Sets 'Black Vault' Drama As He Talks Anne Rice Universe Expansion, 'Great American Stories' Plan & Industry Correction Bryan Cranston Teases 'Malcolm in the Middle' Physical Comedy: "I'm, Of Course, Naked Again" Bryan Cranston Says Filming 'Malcolm In The Middle' Revival Was "So Rewarding" Since The "Whole Family" Is "Back Together" 'He's the hardest worker in the room, the most lovable — I mean, he's my best friend, my son's godfather, I adore him, I spoke to him for an hour on the phone last night. I really am obsessed with the guy, but he's also the most immature person I've ever met in my life, and I say that with just love and respect,' the Ash star prefaced. Paul then recalled an instance where The Studio actor came out of the production office and solemnly beckoned him to come over, a seeming harbinger of bad news. 'He goes, 'Come here, it's OK,' and he gives me this long hug,' the Black Mirror actor recounted. 'I'm like, 'What are you doing?' He's like, 'At least you go out in a big way, huh?' And I'm like, 'What are you talking about?' He goes, 'Did you read the latest script?' I go, 'No.' He goes, 'Oh, well, just read it, and I'm here if you need me.'' As such, Paul said he 'sprinted' into the office and asked to read the script — but upon perusing the final pages, he found his Jesse Pinkman alive and (mostly) well. 'He just made it seem like I died,' he said of his Dos Hombres Mezcal co-founder, 'but he would not stop, and he would get everybody in on it, like the costume designers said, 'Hey we gotta do your measurements for the casket, so if you could stay after work, that would be great.' I'm like, 'What are you talking about?'' In fact, his character was originally scripted to die at the end of Season 1, but the writers opted to keep Jesse alive as a result of Paul's chemistry with Cranston and the thematic foil his character offers Walter White; his character notably returns in the 2019 film El Camino. Paul certainly had the last laugh, turning to the camera and triumphantly declaring, 'But I made it!' (And, as we all know, a certain former teacher of chemistry did not.) A juggernaut of the prestige television era, Breaking Bad would go on to be nominated for 58 Emmys throughout its five-season run from 2008 through 2013, winning 16 statuettes, including three consecutive wins for Cranston (who also won a fourth as a producer on the show) and three total wins for Paul. The Vince Gilligan-created series also spawned the equally beloved Bob Odenkirk vehicle Better Call Saul, which clinched 53 Emmy nods but did not receive any awards during its run from 2015 to 2022. Tom Hanks jokingly tells off photographers on red carpet: ‘Shut up!'

Tom Hanks and Bryan Cranston had some fun with the photographers during the Phoenician Scheme red carpet this week. Hanks, 68, was posing for a movie studio photographer when the other paps began joking that the snapper was taking too long, reports Page Six. 'I want to be right where [the other photographers are],' Hanks exclaimed, jokingly gesturing that he wanted to move along to pose for the others. The Forrest Gump star then jokingly yelled at one cameraman to 'shut the f**k up,' causing all of the assembled photographers to break out into peals of laughter. Hanks wasn't the only star to charm the shutterbugs. Bryan Cranston also pulled out the stops when someone noted his tie was slightly crooked. 'My tie is askew!' he exclaimed before sarcastically telling a photographer off for not alerting him to the sartorial mishap. 'Thanks for letting me know my tie was askew,' the Breaking Bad star, 69, deadpanned. 'I'm going to come out with a line of ties called Askew!' he joyfully added. Hanks and Cranston weren't the only big stars to pose at the New York Jazz at Lincoln Centre screening. Benicio del Toro, Mia Threapleton, Scarlett Johansson, Michael Cera, Steve Park and Hope Davis also posed along with director Wes Anderson. After the screening, the starry crowd trekked to the swanky Metropolitan Club. Guests included Matthew Broderick, Jon Hamm, Gina Gershon, Steve Buscemi and Catherine Keener. The Phoenician Scheme follows wealthy businessman, Zsa-zsa Korda (del Toro), who, along with his daughter, a nun (Threapleton), embarks on a new enterprise filled with eccentric tycoons, determined assassins and charming revolutionaries.

Tom Hanks And Bryan Cranston Make Headlines After Telling Off Photographers

and proved they're still Hollywood's most lovable (and unpredictable) gentlemen as they hit the red carpet for the premiere of "The Phoenician Scheme" on Wednesday night, and they didn't hold back when it came to keeping the photographers on their toes. The "Forrest Gump" star was all smiles as he posed for a movie studio photographer, but when other cameramen began teasing the snapper for taking too long, Tom Hanks jumped in with his signature charm and a little spice. 'I want to be right where [the other photographers are],' Hanks exclaimed while jokingly gesturing to move down the line. Then, with a mischievous grin, he shouted at one cameraman to 'shut the f-ck up,' sending the entire media line into a fit of laughter. The video was first obtained by Page Six. Not to be outdone, "Breaking Bad" alum Bryan Cranston joined in the fun after someone pointed out his tie was slightly crooked. 'My tie is askew!' he declared in mock horror before turning his attention to the photographers. 'Thanks for letting me know my tie was askew,' he deadpanned, before proudly announcing, 'I'm going to come out with a line of ties called Askew!' Talk about turning a moment into a marketing pitch. The lighthearted exchange offered a refreshing glimpse of both stars' comedic timing and quick wit, something fans have come to expect from Hanks, who has made headlines in the past for both hilarious antics and fiercely protective moments. Back in November 2024, Hanks and his wife, , made waves after they 'stormed out' of the "Saturday Night Live" 50th anniversary concert in a scripted bit that had the audience in stitches. The moment was part of a larger joke by host , who told the crowd there would be no awards given that night. Cameras captured Tom and Rita making a dramatic (and perfectly timed) exit as Fallon called out, 'We lost Tom Hanks and Rita. Sorry. It wasn't their fault.' But while Hanks often leans into humor, he's also shown he's not afraid to stand up when it matters. Back in June 2022, the "Elvis" star made headlines after a tense encounter with fans turned chaotic outside a restaurant in Midtown Manhattan. Hanks and his wife were leaving a dinner engagement and heading to their car when a swarm of fans and paparazzi surrounded them on the sidewalk, hoping to snap selfies and get autographs. In video footage that quickly went viral, the couple is seen attempting to move through the crowd with the help of a security guard. But as the group pressed in, Wilson suddenly stumbled after being accidentally pushed by someone in the crowd. Visibly shaken, she turned and firmly said, 'Stop it.' That was enough for Hanks to go into full protective mode. 'Back the f-ck off!' the actor shouted, turning toward the group with his arms out. 'Knocking over my wife?!' His outburst left the crowd stunned, with some immediately backing away and apologizing. 'Sorry about that, Tom,' one fan is heard saying in the video. Though the moment was brief, it served as a reminder that even the most composed stars can, and should, speak up when boundaries are crossed. Many fans praised Hanks for defending Wilson and not tolerating what could have become a dangerous situation. Hanks and Cranston weren't the only A-listers turning heads at the "Phoenician Scheme" screening at Jazz at Lincoln Center. Benicio del Toro, Mia Threapleton, , , Steve Park, and Hope Davis also stepped out in style, joining director Wes Anderson for the star-studded event. The film, Anderson's latest quirky ensemble, centers on wealthy businessman Zsa-zsa Korda (del Toro) and his daughter, a nun (Threapleton), as they dive into a chaotic new venture involving eccentric tycoons, relentless assassins, and charming revolutionaries. Though they didn't hit the carpet, "Phoenician Scheme" also features appearances by and , rounding out one of the director's most stacked casts yet.

Bryan Cranston takes early lead in Best Comedy Guest Actor odds over his fellow A-listers on ‘The Studio'

The Studio is overflowing with A-list guest stars, most of whom play versions of themselves, but it's someone who isn't doing that who's out in front for Emmy gold. Bryan Cranston is in first place in Gold Derby's early Best Comedy Guest Actor odds. The six-time Emmy winner plays Continental CEO Griffin Mill and is one of The Studio's few guest stars to portray fictional characters. After appearing in the pilot, Griffin returns with a vengeance in the final two episodes of the first season, taking so many shrooms that he goes MIA and puts the studio's CinemaCon presentation in jeopardy. More from GoldDerby 'Gypsy' and 'Just in Time' producer Tom Kirdahy on serving a 'social and cultural need' through creative work TV Visual Effects supervisor roundtable: 'Black Mirror,' 'The Boys,' 'The Wheel of Time' 'The Wheel of Time' VFX supervisor Andy Scrase: 'I always think of visual effects as the magic of filmmaking' If he prevails, this would be Cranston's fifth Emmy for acting — he has four Best Drama Actor trophies for Breaking Bad and two for producing the two-time Best Drama Series champ — putting him one step closer to the all-time acting record of eight wins, held by Cloris Leachman and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. SEE The Studio's acting Emmy submissions revealed — including guest stars Martin Scorsese, Sarah Polley, and Bryan Cranston Cranston will have to fend off the defending champ, The Bear's Jon Bernthal, who is in second place and is seeking his third straight nomination in the category. Though it won 11 Emmys for Season 2, The Bear has been on a downward swing of momentum since losing Best Comedy Series to Hacks, but Bernthal ought to be safe for a nom. He's aiming to be just the second person to win the category in back-to-back years after Jay Thomas (Murphy Brown) did it in 1990 and '91. In third place is someone many had penciled in for the win after The Studio's pilot: Martin Scorsese. The icon plays himself in the episode, pitching a Jonestown film to Matt (Seth Rogen) only for it to be killed later. A three-time Emmy winner, Scorsese has (unsurprisingly) never been nominated for acting before, but could playing himself actually hurt him for the win? The same question applies to Ron Howard, who also plays himself on The Studio and is in fourth place. No one who has played themselves has won this category before. The most recent one to be nominated was Morgan Freeman in 2021 for The Kominsky Method. Rounding out the top six are two former nominees in the category, Christopher McDonald, who returns in the Season 4 finale of Hacks, and Martin Short for Saturday Night Live. But there's another SNL host who might be under-predicted: Dave Chappelle, who's in ninth place behind past nominee Will Poulter (The Bear) and Giancarlo Esposito (Poker Face). The controversial comedian, who won his third straight Best Comedy Album Grammy earlier this year, is a five-time Emmy winner, with two of those wins coming in this category for SNL, in 2017 and 2021. SNL has won the category a record seven times since it was allowed to compete there in 2009. The sketch series hasn't triumphed since Chappelle's second victory, and Chappelle was snubbed two years ago for his third SNL hosting stint. Was that just a blip or have voters moved on? If he cracks the lineup, don't be surprised if he prevails, especially if The Studio's high-profile guests vote-split and The Bear really is on the outs. X-Men: Bryan Cranston Allegedly Eyed to be the New Charles Xavier

Rumors were flying around that Marvel may have wanted a POC to play the part of the new Charlie Xavier for the MCU, but it's possible they could be sticking to keeping him Caucasian. According to @MyTimeToShineH, Marvel is allegedly looking at Bryan Cranston ( Breaking Bad ) to be the new leader of the X-Men. We already know he can play the bald look, but it's curious exactly what kind of Xavier he can deliver, seeing that he can either be ridiculously evil or all-around goofy. Admittedly, we have to take this news with a grain of salt, seeing that MTTSH has had missteps in the past, but they've also reported some true things as well. Personally, I was in the camp that wanted to revamp the origins of Professor X and Magneto so that they better exemplified more recent issues on discrimination. A popular fancast was for Giancarlo Esposito (surprisingly also in Breaking Bad ) to be Xavier and Denzel Washington to be the new Magneto—with Magneto's origin of being a holocaust survivor being switched to him surviving another kind of race war. There are some who think that changing Magneto's origin is a delicate matter, but there are some who believe that, to stay relevant, his origin could be changed so that the core issue is still discrimination—which was also at the heart of his holocaust survivor story. I mean, if they wanted Magneto to be alive around that time, he would have to be incredibly old in the 2020s; and you can only go so far with the 'his powers stop his aging' or 'he's a time-traveller' storyline. Then again, I am just spit-balling here. For now, we have no idea when the proper X-Men reboot is going to be, but fans are expecting it after the events of Avengers: Secret Wars which comes out in 2027.
