Man at centre of W5 investigation accused of historical sexual assault of his then six-year-old cousin

Warning: This story contains graphic details and allegations of sexual assault. This article is part of an ongoing W5 investigation that has infiltrated a global online network of men who are secretly drugging, raping, filming and sharing the videos of their unsuspecting wives and intimate partners. Bryan Hayward, the 36-year-old Hamilton, Ont. man accused of drugging, raping, filming and sharing content of his ex-girlfriend is also accused of sexually assaulting his then six-year-old cousin, 19 years ago. Hayward was arrested on May 16 for allegedly sexually abusing his ex-girlfriend. Hamilton police apprehended Hayward after a W5 investigation revealed Hayward was posting videos of women who appear to be unconscious while Hayward potentially abused them. Bryan Hayward Hamilton police arrested Bryan Hayward on May 16. (Undated photo) After his arrest, numerous women have come forward to Hamilton police over concerns they may have been assaulted by Hayward. Hamilton police will not confirm the number of women who have come forward, writing in a statement to W5 that '...to protect the integrity of the investigation we will not be releasing the number.' This latest accusation that Hayward assaulted his cousin stems from an alleged incident that occurred almost 20 years ago. For tips on this or any other story please email: In an exclusive interview with W5's Avery Haines, Hayward's younger cousin who is now 25 and, who we are calling Taylor in order to protect her identity, detailed the alleged abuse she says she suffered when Hayward first allegedly assaulted her. 'You never prepare yourself in your own home. It was my birthday. And we would play hide and go seek. …Bryan would always say, 'hey, Taylor, come over here, come with me. Let's go hide underneath these covers.' And I would follow him and we would go hide underneath the covers and, um, and he would just start touching me…' Following Hayward's arrest last month, Taylor contacted W5 in relation to her claims that Hayward assaulted her when she was a child. Taylor first came forward that Hayward allegedly abused her when she was nine, three years after the alleged abuse first occurred. Taylor says she first kept the alleged abuse to herself, fearing that no one would believe her. But then told her mother as they were planning her ninth birthday. Taylor, Bryan Hayward's cousin, in silhouette Bryan Hayward's cousin, Taylor, says he sexually assaulted her when she was 6-years-old and he was 17. (CTV W5) 'I just remember driving to Kumon with my mom and she's talking about my birthday party and how her cousins are gonna come and we're all gonna have fun and socialize, and I'll never forget. I told her, I said, 'you can't, like, please don't be mad, but I don't want Bryan there. This is what has been happening to me.' And next thing you know, I'm in court trying to tell my story.' Hayward would be charged for allegedly abusing Taylor. The case advanced to trial but was eventually dismissed. Taylor had to testify during the trial but upon the court not allowing her mom or dad to be present during the examination, Taylor says Hayward's defence attorney broke her down. 'I brought my two favorite stuffed animals there with me…my parents weren't allowed in the court. So it was just myself and my stuffed animals,' Taylor said. 'Nothing came out of it because I couldn't, because I broke down on the stand. I couldn't get my full story out there and it really bothered me.' Bryan Hayward in 2006 Bryan Hayward, now 36, is charged with drugging and raping an ex-girlfriend. His cousin accuses him of sexually assaulting her 19 years ago when she was 6 and he was 17. (Supplied photo) Taylor's father, who we are calling Mark, lauds his daughter for having the strength to come forward at such a young age, but says the justice system failed his family. 'We're standing outside the room and I heard her break down and it was horrible. It was like someone stuck a knife in my gut,' he said. Mark wants to see Hayward locked up indefinitely. 'That monster needs to stay behind bars for the rest of his life, because he's going to continue to do this,' he said. Taylor's father, Mark, in silhouette Taylor's dad, Mark says Bryan Hayward should be behind bars for life. (CTV W5) Hayward is currently behind bars in Hamilton Wentworth Detention Centre, awaiting a bail hearing scheduled for June 13. In response to inquiries about numerous past allegations and cases surrounding Hayward, Hamilton police have stated to W5 that '...we will be reviewing all cases involving Brian Hayward and continue to work with victims to support them when, and if, they are ready to report.' Taylor says she'll now be looking for Hamilton police to reopen the historical case of alleged sexual assault against her. 'I want to get justice and I'm going to be reaching out to them to reopen my case and this time I'm not going to break down,' she said, 'because it makes me so angry seeing or knowing that he walked away, hurt so many others along the way.' W5 documentary results in second man now under police investigation for potentially drugging, raping and filming a woman

Over the period of several months, W5's Senior Investigative Correspondent Avery Haines infiltrated a global network of men who drug, rape, videotape, sell and exchange videos of women being abused. Warning: This story contains graphic details and allegations of sexual assault A man in Europe is now being investigated by police following W5's infiltration of a global online network of men who secretly drug, rape, film and share the content of their wives and intimate partners. This follows the arrest of a Hamilton, Ont. man on May 16. After being alerted by W5 of potential crimes taking place, Hamilton police arrested 36-year-old Bryan Hayward. He was subsequently charged with sexual assault; assault with a weapon; administering a noxious substance; distribution of intimate images; and voyeurism, among other charges. He is accused of drugging, raping, filming and posting videos of his ex-girlfriend on a porn site. Both the arrest of Hayward and the new case in Europe are a direct result of W5's investigation. For tips on this or any other story please email: Senior Investigative Correspondent Avery Haines gained access to this massive online network by posing as a man who wanted to drug and assault his wife. There, she uncovered Hayward's profile and also befriended the man in Europe. He shared his e-mail address with Haines, not realizing she was an undercover journalist. He revealed in horrific detail how he drugs and rapes his unsuspecting wife. The content of which is uploaded on a publicly accessible porn site. 'She will slowly disappear, her consciousness will leave, and leave you with a body at your command..,' he writes to Haines in one message. He describes how his wife's sleep apnea is of no concern: '...well, she has respiratory arrest very rarely, so what? We don't die from it!' he emails. The man describes how he turns his wife into his own personal sex object: 'I had a lot of fun with my wife transformed into a toy…' the man writes. '...your doll will do everything you want guaranteed.' He even brags that he has been knocking women unconscious for 20 years: 'None of the women I sedated suffered any after-effects, none…' Over the course of several weeks of correspondence the man reveals his first name, his profession and the city in Europe where he lives. W5 alerted police who confirm they are now investigating the man. In Hamilton, Bryan Hayward sits behind bars as he awaits an upcoming bail hearing on June 13. In the meantime, W5 dug up his criminal record. It reveals a history of charges and convictions spanning nearly two decades and several cities. Bryan Hayward Bryan Hayward was arrested and charged with sexual assault as a result of an ongoing W5 investigation. (Undated photo) In addition to false ID charges and court attendance and bail condition convictions, Hayward was convicted of theft under $5,000 in Hamilton in 2009; utter forged documents and possess or sell ID documents in St. Catharines, Ont. in 2017; and fraud under $5,000 in Brantford, Ont. in 2018. There was also an impaired driving conviction last year in Cayuga, Ont. In 2020 he was convicted on drug possession charges in Hamilton. Again in Hamilton, he was charged in 2021 for making an explosive substance which W5 has learned likely resulted in the amputation of his left hand. Those charges were later withdrawn. In July 2024, Hayward was charged with dangerous driving and criminal harassment stemming from an incident with an ex-girlfriend. He is currently charged with sexual assault for allegedly drugging and raping the same woman. W5 has learned this same ex-girlfriend spoke with Hamilton police alerting them of similar alleged crimes in January 2024. Though Hamilton police did interview her, she ultimately didn't press charges due to concerns she wouldn't be believed. Vial of propofol The powerful anesthetic, propofol, is one of the drugs offered within this network of men who share rape content of women. It's the same drug that killed Michael Jackson. (W5) Since Hayward's arrest, other potential victims have contacted Hamilton police, but it is uncertain how many. In a statement, Hamilton police wrote '...to protect the integrity of the investigation we will not be releasing the number.' Over half a dozen women have contacted W5 about Hayward relating to concerns surrounding drugging or alleged sexual assault. A Toronto nurse shared a text exchange she says was with Hayward in 2022. 'You drugged me and raped me. That will never be okay, and you should think about your daughter (if you actually have one) when you think about terrorizing other human beings,' she wrote. 'You are less than human and you don't deserve to be a parent.' Hayward did not reply to her message and the woman did not report him to police. W5 has confirmed that Hayward does in fact have a daughter. In an exclusive interview, W5 interviewed Haywards's ex-wife, the mother of his child. We are concealing her identity for the protection of her and her daughter. 'I have lost all trust and faith in the system,' she told W5's Avery Haines. 'It took yourself and the W5 team to uncover this and make this arrest happen. I truly believe that if it weren't for your intervention, that he would still be free today.' W5 will have more of that interview Friday, including distressing details involving the drugging of his own daughter. He's accused of drugging, assaulting and posting a video of a woman. He was on probation at the time of his arrest

A Hamilton man accused of drugging and sexually assaulting a woman, and then sharing the assault video, pleaded guilty earlier this year in an incident where a woman accused him of following her vehicle. Bryan Hayward was still on probation when he was arrested last week and charged with multiple offences connected to the sexual assault case, court records show. Last July, Hamilton police received a 911 call from a woman driving on the Mountain, reporting that a man she had a relationship with was following her, and she believed he had placed a tracker in her car. She told dispatch she was on her way to the Mountain station when Hayward blocked her car, then followed her and pushed her vehicle with his while she was braking, the Crown said in court in January. The tracker allegation was never proven, but when police stopped Hayward in a beige Hyundai Elantra on Rymal Road, they found her licence plates — which had been reported stolen — in his vehicle. Hayward was charged with harassment, dangerous driving, and possession of stolen property under $5,000, along with Highway Traffic Act (HTA) offences because he was a prohibited driver. In court in January, Hayward pleaded guilty to the possession charge and an HTA offence for driving while prohibited. He told the court that the pair had been headed to the station to exchange property, and he denied pushing her vehicle. He was fined $1,000 for the driving offence and sentenced to a year of probation. Other charges were withdrawn. The 36-year-old, arrested May 16 at a Hamilton Tim Hortons, now faces a long list of charges, also including possession of drugs. Among the substances he's accused of possessing is GHB, known to be used as a date rape drug. He is also charged with breaching probation and, again, with driving while prohibited. Hamilton police say the investigation was spurred by a victim and then a member of the media coming forward. CTV has reported that Hayward is featured in an upcoming 'W5' documentary about an international network of men who appear to be drugging and raping women, and then sharing videos of their crimes on pornography websites. The Hamilton charges relate to a single victim, who cannot be identified due to a standard publication ban protecting victims of sexual offences. However, police say they believe there are more victims, and some have come forward since the news of Hayward's arrest. Police have said they believe he may have met victims, including some who may not have known they were victimized, through online dating websites. In January, court heard Hayward is supported by disability benefits. However, he also appears to have a general contracting business. On Dec. 21, 2021, Hayward was charged with making an explosive following an incident that led to his hand needing to be amputated. However, court records show that charge was withdrawn a month later. Hamilton police have described Hayward as a white man, five feet 10 inches tall, weighing 180 pounds with brown hair and an amputated left hand. Hayward, who remains in custody, is scheduled to appear in court by video Friday. Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Curtis Patton of the sex crimes unit at 905-540-5545 or the non-emergency line at 905-540-5553 . To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or . 'This matter has understandably attracted considerable public and media attention,' his lawyer Vikram Singh told the Toronto Sun in an email. 'In order to respect the integrity of the legal process and all parties involved, I will not be commenting on the specific allegations at this time.' Gisele Pelicot addresses the press as she leaves the courthouse after hearing the verdict of the court that sentenced her ex-husband to the maximum term of 20 years jail for committing and orchestrating her mass rapes with dozens of strangers he recruited online, in Avignon on Dec. 19, 2024. Photo by MIGUEL MEDINA / AFP via Getty Images The media attention is likely due to its eerie resemblance to a notorious sex assault case in France that dominated headlines around the world for months last year. Dominique Pelicot – nicknamed the Monster of Avignon – went on trial for repeatedly drugging his wife Gisele and videotaping her as she was being sexually assaulted over a decade by dozens of men he recruited over chat rooms such as 'without her knowledge' on a website glorifying sexual violence that has since been shut down. This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. Pelicot and 50 accomplices were convicted in December 2024. In a press release last week, Hamilton Police described Hayward as 5-foot-10, approximately 180 pounds, with a medium build, brown hair and an amputation to his left hand. They warned about the possibility of other alleged victims who may have met him on dating sites and might not be aware of what was done to them. Since Hayward's arrest, police said more complainants have come forward. RECOMMENDED VIDEO At the time of his arrest, Hayward was on probation following a disturbing incident with a woman last summer. The Hamilton Spectator reports the woman called 911 in July 2024 from her car claiming she had a relationship with Hayward and he was now following her, had blocked her car and pushed it when she braked. This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. When he was stopped, police alleged they found the woman's stolen license plates in his car. Hayward denied pushing her vehicle and, according to the newspaper, pleaded guilty in January to possession of stolen property and driving while prohibited. He was sentenced to one-year probation and a $1,000 fine for the driving offence . The W5 investigation found the global network included another Canadian who was sentenced last November to 16 years in prison. The Moncton, N.B. man, his identity protected by a publication ban, pleaded guilty to nine charges including raping, drugging and secretly recording two ex-girlfriends. According to the Telegraph-Journal , the agreed statement of facts offered a terrifying window into this depraved world: A woman went to the RCMP in 2023 after receiving an email with a link to a website that contained videos and images of her being sexually assaulted while she was unconscious. She was warned that if she didn't respond, the images would be sent to her friends and family. She had no memory of the assaults but believed her partner had drugged her. Police found he'd given her GHB multiple times. In court, he called himself a 'monster' who became addicted to pornography of children being sexually abused but could only get the images if he traded his own videos of him sexually assaulting the drugged women. Is this a club Hayward belonged to as well? The Hamilton man is set to appear in court again by video on June 13. mmandel@ Toronto Maple Leafs Columnists World Toronto Maple Leafs Editorial Cartoons
