NFL analyst predicts 49ers to go over their projected win total in 2025
The San Francisco 49ers had one of their most disappointing seasons in some time in 2024, finishing with a 6-11 record and in fourth place in the NFC West after three straight trips to the NFC championship and one to the Super Bowl. This season, the 49ers are hoping that some of the moves they made, including bringing back defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, drafting Mykel Williams in the first round, trading for Bryce Huff and replacing Deebo Samuel with Demarcus Robinson, will help them get back to their winning ways in 2025. With rookies reporting to training camp at their SAP Performance Facility in Santa Clara, California, earlier this week and veterans joining on Tuesday, BetMGM currently has set San Francisco's win total at 10.5 this year. While that'd be considered a lofty number for most, The Athletic's Vic Tafur recently projected that the 49ers will go over that total and win at least 11 games in 2025. "There have been some glowing reports about Christian McCaffrey's health, and yes, after what happened last season, 49ers fans and fantasy GMs have plenty of reason to be skeptical," Tafur said. "McCaffrey is just one of the reasons the 49ers should bounce back from a 6-11 record. They brought back defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, used their first five draft picks on the defense and traded for pass rusher Bryce Huff to line up opposite Nick Bosa. Brock Purdy got a big new contract, and there's no reason to think he can't take another step in his development. The 49ers lost receiver Deebo Samuel but Jauan Jennings and Ricky Pearsall will hold it down — maybe? — until Brandon Aiyuk is back. (We gave you Josh Allen as the MVP at 8-to-1 last year and if he doesn't repeat — at 6-to-1 — Purdy might just shock the world at 28-to-1.)" The 49ers have their work cut out for them, as it's hard to argue that their roster is much better than it was last year. However, health could be the game-changer for the franchise in 2025 after key players like McCaffrey, Aiyuk and Trent Williams missed significant time last year that certainly cost them games. If that trio can stay on the field and play to best of their abilities, San Francisco should see an improved record this season. Whether it's enough to bring them back to at least 11 wins for the third time in four years remains to be seen. The Eagles Dodged A HUGE Bullet With Bryce Huff After This...
The Philadelphia Eagles made the decision to trade Bryce Huff earlier this offseason to the San Francisco 49ers. Huff signed a 3-year deal with the Eagles last offseason, but ultimately ended up getting benched as a healthy scratch in the Super Bowl. Huff discussed his thoughts on the Eagles departure and much more on a recent episode of TheSFNiners podcast, which certainly opened a lot of eyes. Today, RB discusses all of this and more!

Examining 49ers contract incentives for 2025 NFL season
The San Francisco 49ers are set to start their 2025 training camp at their SAP Performance Facility next to Levi's Stadium with rookies reporting Tuesday, July 15 and veterans arriving a week later on July 22. This year, the 49ers will be looking to improve on their disappointing results in 2024, when they finished with a 6-11 record and in last place in their division. While they're hoping to win as many games as possible in pursuit of a Lombardi Trophy, there are several players who have contract incentives that they can earn throughout the year by completing specific tasks. Let's take a look at who those players are, and what they need to do to make some extra money in 2025. EDGE Bryce Huff The 49ers traded for Huff this offseason from the Philadelphia Eagles with the hopes that he'd play a pivotal role on the edge along with Nick Bosa and first-round pick Mykel Williams. He's never recorded more than 10 sacks in a season (2023 with the New York Jets) and has never made the Pro Bowl or earned All-Pro honors, so these incentives will be difficult to reach. OL Jake Brendel Brendel is entering his sixth season with San Francisco and his fourth as a starter. He's played at least 96% of the snaps in each of the last three seasons, so as long as he stays healthy, he should reach those markers, but he's yet to make a Pro Bowl. TE Luke Farrell The 49ers signed Farrell this offseason after he spent the last four years with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He's predicted to serve as their second tight end behind George Kittle. San Francisco only used multiple tight ends on 12.3% of their plays last season, so Kittle will probably have to miss time or Kyle Shanahan will have to change things up for Farrell to cash in. QB Mac Jones Jones joins the 49ers after spending the 2024 season with the Jaguars as well. He'll only make money if Brock Purdy goes down, and the team still does well. After watching Jones the last few years, it's hard to envision that happening, but maybe finally pairing him with Shanahan leads to better results. WR Demarcus Robinson Robinson signed with San Francisco this offseason after playing for the Los Angeles Rams the last two seasons. He's recorded at least 55 receptions four times in his career (2019 and 2020 with the Kansas City Chiefs, 2022 with the Baltimore Ravens and 2024 with the Rams). He's never caught more than seven touchdowns in a season. This year, he could be asked to be a top option for the 49ers to start the season with Brandon Aiyuk rehabbing a torn ACL that ended his 2024 season in Week 7. FB Kyle Juszczyk Juszczyk is returning the 49ers for his ninth season with the team. He's made the Pro Bowl every year in San Francisco thus far, so as long as he's healthy, he should earn this incentive as one of the top fullbacks in the game. DB George Odum Odum is entering his fourth season in San Francisco after spending his first four with the Indianapolis Colts. He's served as a depth safety and core special teamer for most of his time with the 49ers, never playing more than 13% of their defensive snaps. However, with Talanoa Hufanga, Tashaun Gipson and Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles all leaving this offseason, he's one of the most experienced safeties in the room. DL Jordan Elliott Elliott is set to play in his second season with the 49ers after beginning his professional career with the Cleveland Browns. At this point, he's listed as a starting defensive lineman but could end up losing some playing time to rookies Alfred Collins and C.J. West. He's played over 50% of the defensive snaps just once in his career (2022 with the Browns) and 2.5 sacks (2023 with the Browns) is his career high. OL Colton McKivitz McKivitz is starting his sixth year with the 49ers and is expected to be the starting right tackle in 2025. He's played over 85% of the snaps in each of the last two seasons. He's never made a Pro Bowl. DB Siran Neal The 49ers signed Neal after he played 17 games for the Dolphins last seasons and 97 for the Buffalo Bills from 2018-23. He's yet to make a Pro Bowl, but he's one of the league's better gunners. DB Richie Grant Grant spent his first four seasons with the Atlanta Falcons before signing a one-year deal with San Francisco in March. He's played over 30% of the defensive snaps twice in his career (2022 and 2023), and with the changes at safety and Malik Mustapha expected to miss the start of the 2025 season, he could see an up-tick in playtime early. Eagles free-agent bust Bryce Huff: 'I wanted a trade fairly early on' after signing $51 million contract
One of the biggest free-agent busts in Philadelphia Eagles history is sounding off about his only season with the franchise. Edge rusher Bryce Huff, who the Eagles signed to a three-year, $51.1 million deal ahead of the 2024 season, said in an interview that he knew early on 'it wasn't a fit' and wanted a trade. Huff got his wish to be traded, but not until the offseason, when the Eagles shipped him to the San Francisco 49ers for a 2026 fifth-round pick. Advertisement The Eagles signed Huff to the big-money deal after he posted 10 sacks in 2023 with the New York Jets. He was expected to be a major piece on the defense, especially after the Birds traded Haason Reddick to the Jets. But Huff couldn't find his place in Vic Fangio's defense. He finished with 2.5 sacks, played in just 39% of defensive snaps and wasn't even active for the Eagles' Super Bowl win. In an interview with 'The SFNiners' podcast, Huff said he wanted out of the Eagles 'fairly early on.' 'If I'm being 100 percent honest with you, I wanted a trade fairly early on, just because of how things went in Philly,' said Huff. 'I knew pretty early on that it wasn't a fit. Being a signing of that magnitude, like being undrafted and going and getting that contract and being in Philly, the expectations are at an all-time high. So I knew a trade wasn't going to happen during the season, but I just kind of talked to my agent about it. I was like, 'Yeah, when it is all said and done I might need to step, just to be able to put myself in the best position to ball out and have a fruitful career.'' Huff added that there was a 'plethora of things that went down' with the Eagles, but he wouldn't specify what happened. Advertisement 'Being in the league for five years, I kind of knew what it felt like for me to be… in a good situation,' Huff explained. 'I was like, yeah, I got to look out for myself and do what I think was best. So, I kind of knew where it was headed early in the season, but probably even in training camp if I'm being honest with you.' Huff will be reunited in San Francisco with former Jets head coach Robert Saleh, who returned to the 49ers as defensive coordinator. Related Headlines

Eagles' Failed Signing Reflects Frankly On Philadelphia Amid Trade to 49ers
Eagles' Failed Signing Reflects Frankly On Philadelphia Amid Trade to 49ers originally appeared on Athlon Sports. At the start of the 2024 offseason, the Philadelphia Eagles hoped that Bryce Huff would be one of their major signings that could get them to another Super Bowl. Advertisement Philadelphia was able to win a Super Bowl that year, but it wasn't because of Huff. The former 10-sack edge rusher signed a three-year, $51 million deal with the Eagles in March of last year. Both sides hoped he could bring his quick first step and improvements against the run into a defense that desperately needed better pass rushers. That isn't what happened. Huff struggled to see the field throughout his lone year in Philly. He played in 12 games, started six, and recorded just 2.5 sacks for the Eagles. He was a virtual no-show throughout Philadelphia's playoff run and was even a healthy scratch for Super Bowl LIX. Advertisement Immediately following their title win, the Eagles traded away Huff to the San Francisco 49ers, eating a pile of money and ending a disappointing tenure. Recently, Huff spoke on "TheSFNiners" channel on YouTube to break down exactly when he realized his time in Philly wasn't beneficial for him. It turns out he realized it early during the season. "If I'm being 100 percent honest with you, I wanted a trade like fairly early on," Huff said. "And just cause of how things went in Philly, I knew pretty early on it wasn't a fit. "I knew a trade wasn't going to happen during the (2024) season. But I talked to my agent about it and was like, when it's all said and done, I might need to step to put myself in the best position … I kind of knew where it was headed fairly early on into the season." Advertisement Huff will go down as one of GM Howie Roseman's worst free agent signings, though the Eagles obviously survived it. Now, both sides can move forward, hoping to find further success, though very happily without each other.
