Arizona Cardinals open rookie mincamp with no tryout players

Arizona Cardinals open rookie mincamp with no tryout players The only players in rookie minicamp were seven draft picks and six rookie free agents. The Arizona Cardinals took the practice field on Friday. Well, a few Arizona Cardinals took the practice field. It was the first of three days of rookie minicamp. One thing was different about this year's rookie minicamp. There were exactly zero tryout players. The only players participating were the team's seven draft picks and six rookie free agents. Arizona Cardinals rookie minicamp roster WR Bryson Green (undrafted) TE Oscar Cardenas (undrafted) OL Hayden Conner (Round 6) OL Jeremiah Byers (undrafted) OL Josh Fryar (undrafted) OL Valentin Senn (undrafted) DL Walter Nolen (Round 1) DL Elijah Simmons (undrafted) OLB Jordan Burch (Round 3) ILB Cody Simon (Round 4) CB Will Johnson (Round 2) CB Denzel Burke (Round 5) S Kitan Crawford (Round 7) This continues to be a departure of what perhaps is the NFL tradition. In years past, the Cardinals would bring in scores of rookies and young players, and sometimes even established veterans, in with a full three days of practice. it was a crash course into the NFL and create competition, allowing tryout players a shot at making the offseason roster for OTAs and beyond. However, under head coach Jonathan Gannon, that has not been the case. If there have been tryout players, it has been limited. It is more about pouring information into the rookies so they are better prepared for OTAs, mandatory minicamp and training camp. They will only be on the field twice, Friday and Saturday. They will have meetings on Sunday but will not be on the field. Then they jump in with the veterans for the second week of Phase 2 of the offseason program. Wisconsin wide receiver signs with Cardinals as undrafted free agent

Wisconsin wide receiver signs with Cardinals as undrafted free agent Wisconsin wide receiver Bryson Green signed with the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent on Saturday. Green is the fifth Badger off to the NFL level. Offensive tackle Jack Nelson and safety Hunter Wohler each went on Day 3 of the draft, while offensive lineman Joe Huber and cornerback R.J. Delancy also signed as UDFAs. That number increases to eight when former transfers are also considered. Wide receiver Chimere Dike and quarterback Graham Mertz (both via Florida) were selected in the draft's fourth and sixth rounds, respectively, while offensive tackle Logan Brown (via Kansas) signed as an UDFA. Green joined the Badgers as a three-star transfer recruit ahead of the 2023 season. He previously began his college career at Oklahoma State, where he played in 23 games over two seasons, totaling 48 catches, 723 yards and seven touchdowns. He was one of coordinator Phil Longo's primary transfer additions of the 2023 offseason as he reshaped the team's skill positions to fit his air raid scheme. Green produced well in his first year with the program, totaling 32 catches, 480 yards and two scores. Those numbers came without much stability at quarterback, as starter Tanner Mordecai missed significant time with a broken hand. Green's breakout seven-catch, 105-yard, one-touchdown ReliaQuest Bowl performance against LSU had many expecting big things entering 2024. Unfortunately, a lower-body injury defined the wide receiver's senior season. He went out during the Badgers' Sept. 28 loss at USC and didn't return until their Nov. 16 contest vs. Oregon. Overall, Green appeared in just eight games, catching 17 passes for 219 yards and two touchdowns. As in 2023, Wisconsin's subpar play under center impacted his production. Green now joins a Cardinals receiving corps led by 2024 first-round pick Marvin Harrison Jr., 2023 third-round pick Michael Wilson and veteran Zay Jones. The room is crowded behind that top trio, meaning the former Badger may face an uphill battle to make the 53-man roster. Activist: Addressing youth gun violence begins before the trigger is pulled

OPELOUSAS, La. () — Acadiana is still recovering from the shock of the this week. As law enforcement investigates the incident, there are those, including Opelousas activist Shauna Sias, who say juvenile gun violence is continuing to rise and needs to stop. 'Our children are getting buried at more numbers than graduation,' Sias said. 'It is not even April, and we have lost three in Mamou, quite a few in Opelousas, and I can't even count the ones in Lafayette.' Sias, who has been a voice for families affected by bullying and gun violence for years, said she noticed the more prominent bullying becomes, gun violence has followed. 'Every single time that there has been an incident with guns and the youth it is because of something that someone said or how they made someone feel,' she said. 'And if we don't teach them how to properly act, identify and act out the emotion instead of acting in it, they're never going to understand.' Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox. 'That that numbed me even worse than the incident itself,' Sias said. 'I feel for that mother. I really do. It's absolutely insensitive and certain parts of it (are) against the law.' Family mourns Bryson Green, victim of Mamou Mardi Gras shooting But what will it take to see change? Sias said she's worked with families dealing with everything from bullying to violence and even juveniles who are incarcerated, and the simplest solution is for parents to begin at home. Sias says parents need to be present and proactive to teach their children family values along with respect and, most importantly, how to be a friend and handle your emotions. 'All I'm asking our village to do is to address everything, not the reactions,' she said. 'Get in your child's business. You know it. And I hate to say the responsibility doesn't lie on the person that did the action. Right. But there's a whole lot of people that missed a lot of things before that incident, before that. And if we don't address those microaggressions, we to continue to bury them.'
