Arizona Cardinals open rookie mincamp with no tryout players The only players in rookie minicamp were seven draft picks and six rookie free agents.
The Arizona Cardinals took the practice field on Friday. Well, a few Arizona Cardinals took the practice field. It was the first of three days of rookie minicamp.
One thing was different about this year's rookie minicamp. There were exactly zero tryout players. The only players participating were the team's seven draft picks and six rookie free agents.
Arizona Cardinals rookie minicamp roster
WR Bryson Green (undrafted)
TE Oscar Cardenas (undrafted)
OL Hayden Conner (Round 6)
OL Jeremiah Byers (undrafted)
OL Josh Fryar (undrafted)
OL Valentin Senn (undrafted)
DL Walter Nolen (Round 1)
DL Elijah Simmons (undrafted)
OLB Jordan Burch (Round 3)
ILB Cody Simon (Round 4)
CB Will Johnson (Round 2)
CB Denzel Burke (Round 5)
S Kitan Crawford (Round 7)
This continues to be a departure of what perhaps is the NFL tradition. In years past, the Cardinals would bring in scores of rookies and young players, and sometimes even established veterans, in with a full three days of practice. it was a crash course into the NFL and create competition, allowing tryout players a shot at making the offseason roster for OTAs and beyond.
However, under head coach Jonathan Gannon, that has not been the case. If there have been tryout players, it has been limited.
It is more about pouring information into the rookies so they are better prepared for OTAs, mandatory minicamp and training camp.
They will only be on the field twice, Friday and Saturday. They will have meetings on Sunday but will not be on the field. Then they jump in with the veterans for the second week of Phase 2 of the offseason program.

Fans Are Noticing a Major Change About Arch Manning
Fans Are Noticing a Major Change About Arch Manning originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Arch Manning appears to be sharp as the upcoming season approaches. Manning, who's taking over as Steve Sarkisian's starting quarterback with the Texas Longhorns, has been discussed ad nauseam this offseason. The extra work he's putting in is giving people something else to talk about. Advertisement In a video posted to X on Friday, Manning worked on his craft, zipping passes to receivers while moving around crisply at Tulane's Yulman Stadium. "His throwing mechanics look a lot different this year," one fan commented. "That footwork is beautiful," another gushed. "A mobile Manning is going to be a problem." "Looks like he got rid of that slight tilt back he had," someone noticed. "Heisman SZN loading." "Footwork (fire emojis)," another analyzed. "Quinn was moving like a newborn deer in the pocket." "Man, look at the footwork," a commenter said. "Will never take it for granted again." Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning evades Florida Gators defensive back Trikweze Bridges while looking to Wachter-Imagn Images Arch Manning sat patiently behind former highly-touted five-star Quinn Ewers for the past two seasons. Ewers is now with the Miami Dolphins, and Manning's surname alone gets people excited. His uncles, Peyton Manning and Eli Manning, both won a pair of Super Bowls, while his grandfather, Archie Manning, was a franchise passer during his days in the NFL. Advertisement On3's J.D. PicKell believes Manning will play more than one go-round as the Longhorns' starter. "Arch Manning is not going to be the first pick in next year's (NFL) draft because, y'all, he's not even gonna leave school," PicKell said last month. "I've seen a lot of stuff out there. I think, actually, in Vegas, he's got the best odds to be the top pick next year. ... I'm just telling you, I don't think he's going pro, man. I don't."
