How Coach Bucky McMillan's 'Bucky Ball' influenced this intriguing transfer class

How Coach Bucky McMillan's 'Bucky Ball' influenced this intriguing transfer class If there is one word to describe Coach Bucky McMillan's basketball system, it's "Aggressive." Texas A&M basketball is going to look drastically different than the last half-decade, and after all the jokes about only having one player on the roster, the team is finally filling out with players that fit the "Bucky Ball" way. His team will shoot many three-pointers and play smothering full-court defense. To achieve this, he had to scour the rapidly decreasing talent in the transfer portal, and he emerged with a solid haul. The top player in the transfer class is former Indiana Hoosiers forward Mackenzie Mgbako, who comes to Aggieland as the highest-rated prospect in team history. However, Mgbako has been one of the top players during the NBA Combine process, and will wait until May 28 to announce if he will play for Texas A&M next year, or depart for the NBA. Several other intriguing transfers have committed, and it is clear Coach Bucky wants a specific type of athlete on the court. Below are key stats for the newest additions. Player 3pt % FT % Jacari Lane - PG 40 79 Zach Clemence - PF 0 60 Mackenzie Mgbako - PF 32 81 Josh Holloway - SG 27 59 Fede Federiko - PF 0 49 Jamie Vinson - C 100 0 Marcus Hill - SG 20 75 Rylan Griffen - SF 34 68 Rashaun Agee - F 39 74 Contact/Follow us @AggiesWire on X and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Texas A&M news, notes and opinions. Texas A&M lands a commitment from Kansas transfer guard

Texas A&M wasted no time responding to Duke Miles' departure, securing a commitment from Kansas transfer guard Rylan Griffen for the 2025 class. Griffen, a 6'6" sharpshooter, spent two seasons at Alabama, where he played a key role in the 2024 Final Four run before transferring to Kansas for his junior season. In his lone year with the Jayhawks, he averaged 6.3 points and 1.4 assists, shooting 33.6% from beyond the arc. Advertisement His breakout season came during his sophomore campaign at Alabama, where he posted 11.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, and a 39.2% three-point shooting percentage. A former four-star recruit, Griffen returns to his home state of Texas, where he was ranked as the No. 5 prospect coming out of high school. His elite shooting ability and aggressive defensive play make him a strong fit for Bucky McMillan's fast-paced "Bucky Ball" system, which thrives on high-energy, up-tempo basketball. With Griffen in the mix, Texas A&M continues to reshape its roster under McMillan, aiming to build a competitive squad for SEC play. Texas A&M HC Bucky McMillan is bringing Samford Chief of Staff to College Station

Texas A&M HC Bucky McMillan is bringing Samford Chief of Staff to College Station Bucky McMillan bringing his Chief of Staff from Samford to College Station: — Jaxson Callaway (AT) (@AggiesToday) April 8, 2025 On Monday, Texas A&M's basketball program officially introduced the program's 23rd head coach. Former Samford head coach and Alabama native Bucky McMillan will lead the Aggies into a new era on the court. He will bring his intense system known as "Bucky Ball" to the SEC, focused on a lot of scoring and full-court press defense that should excite fans for years to come. Moving on from Buzz Williams after six seasons, McMillan is aware of the challenges ahead of building a wholly depleted roster outside of sophomore forward Chris McDermott. Still, after hiring Mitch Cole and Kyle Keller to his coaching staff, the process of adding veteran talent from the transfer portal will be much smoother. As of Monday night, it was revealed that another familiar name will be joining McMillan in College Station. In the current college sports landscape, NIL is vital for building winning rosters each season. While head coaches focus on coaching, handling daily operations demands a distinct role. For example, Samford's Chief of Staff, Warren Fitzgerald, is anticipated to accompany McMillan to Texas A&M in a similar capacity. Warren will enter his fourth season as Chief of Staff and first with the Aggies. Under his and McMillan's guidance, the Bulldogs have been among the most successful teams in the Southern Conference, with four consecutive 20-plus-win seasons and a trip to the 2024 NCAA Tournament.
