DD transferred me to Shimla for making docu on Buddha, says lensman
Chennai: Alleging that he has been victimized for making a documentary series — Buddha and Dhamma — a Chennai-based Doordarshan cameraman has moved
Madras high court
challenging his transfer to Shimla.
C Anandan had first moved the court and obtained a direction to the Doordarshan management to consider his representation to telecast the documentary and take a decision in six months. However, during the period, the channel transferred him to Shimla.
Aggrieved, Anandan once again approached the high court challenging the transfer saying it had been done with a malafide intention and that it would affect the studies of his son, who is in Class X.

On Nov 28, 2023, Anandan submitted a proposal — Buddha and Dhamma — containing 52 episodes and also the budget for the production of the series.
After several deliberations, the petitioner was directed to reduce the number of episodes of documentary to 13. As this was not agreeable to the petitioner, he was asked to approach any OTT platform to release his series.
Aggrieved, he moved the court where Doordarshan Kendra said his proposal had to be decided by the competent authority. Recording the submissions, Justice N Anand Venkatesh directed Doordarshan to consider the proposal of the petitioner and make a decision in six months on Aug 7.
While so, on July 29, Doordarshan transferred him to Shimla. His case has been listed for hearing on Tuesday.
