Wrestler Buff Bagwell Has His Right Leg Amputated Following '5-Year Journey Trying to Fix' His Body After a Car Accident
NEED TO KNOW Buff Bagwell's right leg was recently amputated after he was seriously injured in a car accident in August 2020 The World Champion Wrestling star had undergone "several surgeries" over the past five years, but his leg never healed Bagwell now hopes to return to wrestling following his amputation surgeryMarcus "Buff" Bagwell recently had his leg amputated following a 2020 car accident. In a video posted on YouTube on Friday, July 18, the World Champion Wrestling star, 55, revealed that he had an above-the-knee amputation on his right leg due to injuries he sustained in a car accident in August 2020. Joined by his fiancée Stacy Brown in the video, Bagwell recalled the incident, stating, 'I'd been drinking, but just a few beers … I'm going down the road with a Diet Coke, and I am gone … It was like a dream." 'I remember cars, seeing faces look at me like, 'What are you doing?' ... [and] somehow I got off the wrong exit and I ended up behind the mall, and somehow, that's where it all came to the end, where I drove through a men's and women's bathroom," he continued. Photos from the crash were then shown in the video. A brick building had collapsed, and Bagwell's vehicle could be seen destroyed. Bagwell said the impact of the crash caused the dashboard of his vehicle to hit him 'in my right patellar tendons," which ruined his kneecap. "That started this whole five-year journey of trying to fix my leg,' he further explained, also adding that no one else was hurt or died due to the accident. After the crash, Bagwell said he stayed in the hospital for 'several weeks' and had 39 to 40 surgeries for knee replacements, flap surgeries and extension-mechanism repairs. 'That led me into the deepest, darkest [alcohol] addiction I've ever been in,' he recalled. 'My leg wasn't healing, and so I was super depressed.' Bagwell said he then entered rehab for his drinking in August 2022. Shortly after that, he ran into more health complications, and he had one final right knee extensor mechanism repair surgery, but it 'got infected' and 'led to the amputation.' Despite his injuries, Bagwell credited recent times as 'the best years of my life," stating, "I'm not mad about it by no means." Bagwell also said in his video that he plans to eventually return to the ring following his surgery. "I'm gonna be able to run, and I'm going to be able to run better. I want to get back in the ring, hit the ropes, have a match," he said. "You don't have to give up with something like this ... I'm going to show the world that you can have just as good a life with or without a leg." Read the original article on People

The former nWo member would then make sporadic appearances for the likes of TNA and the independent circuit, with his latest performance taking place in November 2024. That was four years after a shock crash that damaged his right leg so badly he found himself in a long and hard battle not to lose it. Despite multiple procedures and years of rehabilitation, however, Bagwell's friend Steve Stasiak announced on social media his leg had to be amputated above the knee following complications. Stasiak posted on Facebook: "Yesterday morning, Marcus Bagwell—Buff Bagwell—had his leg amputated above the knee. "I've known Buff a long time. I've seen him in the spotlight, I've seen him behind the scenes, and I've seen him fight through things most people never even hear about. "This one… this is hard. For him. 'I am gone' Bagwell previously opened up about the accident, which occurred after he consumed alcohol and seemingly blacked out on the wheel. The Stuff stated no one else got hurt and shared all the details about the awful ordeal he went through following the crash. The former heavyweight lifted the lid on his battle with alcohol addiction the preceded the crash and how he managed to gain sobriety as well as a newfound love for God. Bagwell recently said: "I was heading home [from his father's house] and I had just had surgery, ironically this foot had pins in it and I had got this knee scoped for a minor meniscus tear. 'It was like a dream' "I had been drinking, just a few beers but whatever happened, I'm going down the road with a diet coke and I am gone. I am gone. But you don't realize you are gone. "It was like a dream. I remember hitting cars, seeing faces look at me. I got off at the wrong exit and somehow, I drove through a men's and women's bathroom. "The wreck runied my kneecap. From there, that started this whole journey, trying to fix my leg. "At one stage, I was in the hospital for seven weeks and every three days, I had a surgery. It just wouldn't get better. "I was so angry at what happened. I didn't think I could get sober but August of 2022 I went to rehab. August 2025, 27th, I will be three years sober. "The last three years of my life, I get overwhelmed with joy. I have been able to put together three of the best years of my life by putting God, Stacey [his fiancee] and myself in that order.

Wrestling Legend Gets Leg Amputated
Marcus Bagwell, better known by his wrestling moniker Buff Bagwell of the World Championship Wrestling promotion company founded by CNN founder Ted Turner, has sadly had his leg amputated above the knee. Bagwell's close friend, Steve Stasiak, shared the devastating news Friday on Facebook, saying that the operation happened Thursday morning after a years-long battle to avoid this exact outcome. "I've known Buff a long time. I've seen him in the spotlight, I've seen him behind the scenes, and I've seen him fight through things most people never even hear about. This one… this is hard. For him. For everyone who knows and loves him," Stasiak shared. "The injuries from his 2020 accident never fully healed. He gave it everything he had to avoid this outcome—but that fight led him here. And now begins a whole new kind of battle." He continued, "Buff was one of the brightest stars of a wild era in wrestling. He made you look. He made you care. But it's who he is as a person—past the lights, past the persona—that I hope people think about today. If you're reading this, I just ask that you send a little love out into the world for Buff. No grand gestures. Just something real. A thought, a prayer, a moment." Some 12 hours ahead of the life-altering surgery, Bagwell took to his YouTube channel and shared what led to this outcome. While sitting alongside his fiancée, Stacy, Bagwell shared that this was "the result of a five-year battle trying to save my leg." Bagwell shared that he had a terrible accident in August 2020, when he crashed his Chevy Tahoe into a structure. Nobody was in the structure. The accident, he says, happened while he was still recovering from surgery on his foot. He had also recently had his knee scoped from a minor meniscus tear. Bagwell said part of the building collapsed, and it severely injured his knee cap, resulting in a seven-week hospital stay and 21 surgeries that led him "into the deepest, darkest addiction I've ever been in," the addiction being alcohol. Bagwell, who competed in the WCW from 1991 to 2001, went on to share that he went to rehab in August 2022. He'll celebrate three years of sobriety on Aug. 27. Wrestling fans flooded the comments section with an outpouring of support. "New gimmick- Bionic Buff!! You are going to feel better and be more mobile once you lose that leg and get a kickass prothesis. Just follow the cleaning instructures to the letter to prevent infection from the incision and STAY SOBER. No pills. Love ya," one fan commented." Another wrote. "Marcus, this isn't something the average person would be so confident about. You're talking about it like someone discussing the weather. It's completely admirable. I'll be praying for a speedy recovery for you." Wrestling Legend Gets Leg Amputated first appeared on Men's Journal on Jul 18, 2025 Solve the daily Crossword

Buff Bagwell Reveals Why He Had His Leg Amputated
Buff Bagwell is still feeling the effects of his past behavior, as it has now cost him his leg. Maven's latest vlog features a visit with Buff Bagwell, but it's not under the best of circumstances. Maven went to visit Buff because he was having his right leg amputated. On July 10, Bagwell had what he said 'they 'nicely called' an 'AKA: Above the Knee Amputation.'' Bagwell explained that in August of 2020, he was driving under the influence. He was drinking the night prior and took prescription medication the next morning, even pointing out he drank a Diet Coke since he knew he'd be operating a vehicle. Bagwell ended up getting in a serious accident, blacking out as he drove his car through a bathroom behind a Marietta, Georgia mall. Bagwell says the accident caved in his kneecap. He had other injuries, including a black eye and shoulder injury, but the wreck had shattered his knee. 'When you hear 'knee replacement,' you think [I'll] get a new knee. But you've got to have your kneecap. And I didn't have my kneecap. My kneecap, the doctors said on impact, it exploded. It wasn't there.' Buff Bagwell had dozens of surgeries on his leg to try and fix it Buff Bagwell says he believes he messed up with an initial operation to fix his leg. He says one doctor told him he had a 75 percent chance of losing his leg, and he's had what he estimates to be '30-something surgeries' to try and fix the problem. 'There was a seven-week stay early on in 2020 where there were 21 surgeries,' Bagwell said. Bagwell says no one ever mentioned amputation besides the original doctor. He continued going to doctors, and one gave him a 20 percent chance of keeping his leg. He would have had to have three different surgeries, hours of physical therapy, and his leg would have remained straight for the rest of his life. Buff Bagwell is happy he's sober, and wants to get back in the ring Bagwell believes everything happens for a reason, and he doesn't believe he would be sober if he didn't have the leg injury in the first place. 'I'd rather be sober right now with this situation, than Buff Bagwell on WCW making money and in the funk that I was in. I'd much rather have this life.' After the procedure, Buff said he wants to learn how to run and get back in the ring. 'It'll show that I've come out of the darkness with this thing and I've turned it around all the way to being back in the ring as Buff Bagwell. You don't have to give up with something like this. I am taking it by the horns and I am going to show the world that you can have just as good of a life with or without a leg.'
