Uttar Pradesh launches ‘Buffer Mein Safar Yojana' to boost ecotourism and local livelihoods

As per the latest developments, the Uttar Pradesh Forest and Wildlife Department has launched the 'Buffer Mein Safar Yojana,' in a significant move to promote sustainable tourism and wildlife conservation in the region. As per this initiative, the buffer zones of tiger reserves will be turned into thriving ecotourism destinations while simultaneously empowering local communities. As per the reports, the said scheme will be implemented across key regions like Dudhwa, Pilibhit, and Lakhimpur Kheri—areas known for their biodiversity and proximity to Nepal. Other ecologically rich zones, including Sohagibarwa and Kartaniya Ghat, have also been included. Notably, Semrai Lake, a significant stopover for migratory birds, is being developed as part of the eco circuit, offering birdwatchers a chance to explore Uttar Pradesh's lesser-known natural gems. It's anticipated that this initiative will not only ensure that the local economy benefits directly from ecotourism, but will also help to promote a sense of ownership and responsibility towards wildlife conservation among the locals. Reports add that a modern information centre has been set up at the Dudhwa Tiger that will enhance the experience of visitors by providing them insights into the region's flora, fauna, and conservation efforts. Moreover, there will be educational tours and interpretive materials available with the aim to make wildlife safaris more meaningful, especially for school groups and families. The Buffer Mein Safar Yojana comes at a time when the demand for eco-friendly travel options is on the rise. By transforming buffer zones—traditionally seen as transition areas between human settlements and protected forests—into tourism hubs, the initiative not only eases pressure on core wildlife zones but also makes conservation a community-led effort. ‘Buffer Mein Safar' scheme to boost ecotourism in UP

Lucknow: The forest and wildlife department is set to launch the 'Buffer Mein Safar' scheme soon to boost ecotourism spots in UP, an official spokesperson said on Saturday. "Aimed at promoting sustainable tourism while preserving the state's rich natural beauty and biodiversity, the scheme will focus on developing safari routes within the buffer zones of major tiger reserves," said officials. Under this initiative, new safari routes will be created in tiger reserves like Dudhwa, Pilibhit and Uttar Kheri, with specific attention to areas such as Bhira and Mohammadi, which hold significant potential for ecotourism. This includes routes even in the buffer zones of Sohagibarwa, Uttar Kheri and Pilibhit. The Semrai lake, famous for being a bird migration site, will also be included in the circuit. Jungle safaris have also started in the buffer zone of Kartaniya ghat, located near the Nepal border. The natural beauty, biodiversity and richness of wildlife in these areas will become major attractions for tourists. "The department also plans to engage and empower local communities by training them as guides and restaurant operators, generating employment and enhancing the tourism experience. These efforts have already started yielding results, with a sharp increase in the number of ecotourists visiting UP in recent years," they said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Officials said that the biggest benefit of the scheme is that it reduces conflict between humans and wildlife while giving tourists an adventurous jungle experience. CM Yogi's green vision: Uttar Pradesh on track to become eco-tourism hotspot

Lucknow: In line with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's vision, the Forest and Wildlife Department of Uttar Pradesh is actively transforming the state into a hub of eco-tourism. Significantly, the department is working to preserve the natural beauty and biodiversity of Uttar Pradesh, while launching new initiatives to promote sustainable tourism. One such initiative is the 'Buffer Mein Safar' (journey through the buffer zones) scheme. This scheme aims to ramp up tourist experiences in the buffer zones of tiger reserves across the state. As part of what is being seen as a big initiative, new safari routes are being developed in the buffer zones of Dudhwa, Pilibhit Tiger Reserve, and North Kheri. Areas such as Bhira and Mohammadi are being explored for new eco-tourism opportunities. The Forest and Wildlife department is also imparting training to residents so as to serve as guides, restaurant operators, and other tourism-related roles. This is how the department is aiming to promote local employment and skill development. The initiative is already showing positive results, with a significant rise in the number of eco-tourism visitors to the state in recent years. Tourists will now be able to enjoy safaris even during the monsoon season, as tiger reserves are being kept open for longer periods. In addition to the existing tiger reserves and wildlife sanctuaries, the Forest and Wildlife Department is also expanding eco-tourism prospects to new locations. In southern Kheri, tourist circuits have been developed in Gola, Mohammadi Range, and Bhira. The Semrai Lake, a known habitat for migratory birds, is also being included in the tourism circuit for birdwatching and nature excursions. Furthermore, jungle safaris have been initiated in the buffer zone of Katarniaghat, which lies close to the Nepal border. With its natural beauty, rich biodiversity, and abundance of wildlife, the area is expected to become a major attraction for tourists seeking an immersive nature experience. To support these efforts, a modern information centre has been established in the Dudhwa tourism complex. This centre will provide insights into local biodiversity, wildlife, and culture, as well as raise awareness about environmental conservation. Training programmes for nature guides, canteen staff, and cooks are also being conducted to ensure high-quality services for tourists. These initiatives are not only enhancing the skill sets of local youth but are also generating new employment and income opportunities. With sustained efforts and visionary leadership, Uttar Pradesh is steadily positioning itself as a leading eco-tourism destination both nationally and globally.
