Wrong-way driver, 90, critical after I-89 crash

An elderly Enfield woman was critically injured Tuesday when her car crashed while driving the wrong way on Interstate 89 in Lebanon. Authorities said reports of a wrong-way driver on I-89 northbound began coming in at 1:24 p.m. Less than a minute later, a crash was reported. State Police said Kathleen Ford, 90, of Enfield was driving a Buick Lucerne southbound in the northbound lanes near Exit 18 in Lebanon when her car collided with a Volkswagen Atlas SUV driven by Jennifer Pivovar, 67, of Randolph Center, Vermont. Pivovar's SUV then struck a Hyundai Sonata driven by Erin O'Connor, 24, of Warner. Ford was taken to a hospital in critical condition. Pivovar and O'Connor were also taken to a hospital for evaluation. The northbound lanes were closed for about an hour while troopers investigated. No charges had been filed as of Tuesday evening, but the investigation continues. Anyone who has footage of the crash or any other information that could be helpful to the investigation is asked to contact Trooper Peter Kosakowski at 603-223-3831 or

Man wanted for terroristic threats arrested in the Upstate

OCONEE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – A man wanted in Georgia was arrested Saturday following a traffic stop in Oconee County. The Oconee County Sheriff's Office said 42-year-old Harold Fanklin Curry Jr., of Toccoa, Georgia, was booked into the detention center following a traffic stop near the Foxwood Hills Community. Deputies said a stop was initiated in the area of Blackjack Road and Mount Pleasant Road when a driver in a Buick Lucerne was observed committing a traffic violation. The driver was identified as Curry. While searching the vehicle, authorities located drugs inside the car and Curry was placed under arrest. The sheriff's office charged the suspect with possession of methamphetamine. Further into the investigation, deputies learned that the suspect was a fugitive from Stephens County for allegedly making terroristic threats. Curry was held on a temporary custody order until deputies could charge the individual with fugitive from justice. Curry was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center on a $10,000 bond. On Monday morning, he was transferred to the Stephens County Sheriff's Office. The incident remains under investigation by the OCSO. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Frozen Buick that became a viral sensation on White Bear Lake is finally removed

After it became somewhat of a viral sensation and curiosity, a car that was partially submerged in White Bear Lake was finally pulled clear on Thursday, The 2008 Buick Lucerne's owner had the car pulled from the lake by a private tow company, according to the Ramsey County Sheriff's Office. The owner had 30 days since it fell into the ice (Jan. 27) to remove it. Otherwise, the 41-year-old would have been sent a bill from the sheriff's office for towing it out. The car was about 14 feet deep in the water around 400 yards from Bellaire Beach, but became a point of interest when extreme cold caused the lake to freeze around the sedan after it became stuck."It was quite the spectacle, and it took about three hours. Once the Lucerne was liberated at about noon, our deputies fenced off the area around the hole and stuck a bunch of warning signs in the ice to alert everyone of the danger," the sheriff's office said. "If you're planning to head out on ice, know the lake (especially if you're going out at night), stay alert, and remember there is no such thing as 'safe ice,'" the sheriff's office stated. The sheriff's office said the owner was driving across the lake after dark on Jan. 27 when the car became stuck on an ice bridge and fell in. It first caught traction on social media, with video of the partially submerged sedan was first shared on Instagram by the Urban Ice Anglers' page. Karl Erickson, who organizes the 10,000 Ice Anglers Project — a free program that provides winter fishing experiences for thousands of kids — has continued to post videos of the car's journey from its time stuck in the lake to finally getting it pulled out on Thursday. Anglers begin hauling away ice houses as DNR deadlines approach

The Brief With a stretch of warm weather ahead, ice house owners are taking their houses off of frozen lakes this week. In southern Minnesota, the deadline to do so is March 3. In northern Minnesota, anglers are able to wait until March 17. PRIOR LAKE, Minn. (FOX 9) - With mild temperatures this week, Mother Nature seems to be making it clear: anglers on frozen lakes around the metro are on borrowed time. Dig deeper On Monday, many of them pulled ice houses back to dry land. "[You] kind of just got to play it by day," angler Lane Bauman said. "[I] probably could've waited a couple more days. I just didn't want to risk it. Better to be safe than sorry… with the warm weather coming up, it's getting a little sloppy." Official deadlines to remove ice houses are fast approaching. By March 3, houses in southern Minnesota must be off. People in northern Minnesota have until March 17. "The ice is getting weaker and weaker, it's getting honeycombs with the sun hitting it," DNR conservation officer Mike Lerchen told FOX 9. Local perspective At White Bear Lake, a 2008 Buick Lucerne has been stuck in the ice since Jan. 27. Owner Derek Schimke says he heard the ice cracking and bubbling as he drove through a pressure ridge. He was able to escape through a window, and now, on Feb. 27, Schimke plans to have the vehicle removed.

Sedan Stuck in Frozen Minnesota Lake Goes Viral: ‘Not Something You See Everyday'

A car submerged in frozen White Bear Lake is raising eyebrows in Minnesota. Residents may be used to seeing cold temperatures turn lakes frozen, but a single sedan sinking in the center is a new sight. Related: Dog Gets Private Canoe Ride Across Frozen Lake After Falling Through Ice into Frigid Water 'It's definitely not something you see every day in Minnesota,' Karl Erickson, organizer of the Urban Ice Anglers, a group founded to help foster a passion for fishing among young people, told the Minnesota Star Tribune on Feb. 20. The 2008 Buick Lucerne that has called White Bear Lake its home for nearly a month has gone viral since Erickson began posting photos and videos of it on social media. 'People on the internet love making memes and weird stuff and I thought, 'How about make a meme to raise awareness for the nonprofit [and ice safety]?' ' Erickson told the outlet. "I put it on Instagram, and it just went nuts, like a million views," Erickson told CBS News affiliate WCCO. "The reaction on social media's just been all over the place, 'Oh there's a dead body in there.' " Fans far and wide can rest assured that there's no dead body trapped in the car. A 41-year-old resident accidentally crashed his car through the ice, Ramsey County sheriff's deputies said on Jan. 27, reports the Star Tribune. The man only has a few days left to remove it before a 30-day deadline expires and promised to do so, but weather conditions have made the task more challenging. According to Erickson, the submerged car provides a safe haven for fish seeking shelter from predators, which has given his students the perfect opportunity to catch them. In a video shared to the Urban Ice Anglers Instagram account last week, students can be seen sitting in a tent placed over the car. Holes have been drilled in the ice, and their rods have successfully caught fish.
