'Still Feel Bumrah Should...': Ex-Cricketer Reacts To MI Star's Yorker Vs Sundar

Last Updated: Shreevats Goswami praised Jasprit Bumrah's yorker to Washington Sudnar, suggesting he should have been picked as India's Test captain over Shubman Gill. Former Bengal and Sunrisers Hyderabad cricketer Shreevats Goswami wondered whether Jasprit Bumrah's stunning yorker to clean-bowl Gujarat Titans (GT)'s Washington Sundar in the IPL 2025 Eliminator was the 'ball of the season'. He also put up a deeper question, saying that he still felt the Mumbai Indians (MI) star pacer should have been picked as India's Test captain instead of 25-year-old Shubman Gill. It was a typically excellent yorker from the pacer to the left-handed Sundar. The batter tried to make room, but couldn't get under it in time and ended up with his legs wide open, allowing the rapid ball to go through the gate to crash onto the stumps. Sundar lost his balance, too, and ended up on the floor. 'Is this the ball of this season IPL ? Still have a feeling Bumrah should have been our test captain. #MIvsGT #BumrahSpecial #IPLFinals #ipl," Goswami wrote on X, sharing a video of the wicket. Is this the ball of this season IPL ? Still have a feeling Bumrah should have been our test captain. #MIvsGT #BumrahSpecial #IPLFinals #ipl — Shreevats goswami (@shreevats1) May 31, 2025 It was a special delivery, as much for the quality as the timing, for Sundar and Sai Sudharsan were in between a quick 84-run partnership for the fourth wicket and were flying in the chase of 228/6. Bumrah had already bowled two overs, and Hardik Pandya was forced to bring him in for a third to break the stand, which is just what the pacer did. He ended his spell with figures of 4-0-27-1. His sole wicket proved to be the most crucial of the night as GT couldn't recover and MI secured a 20-run win in the last over. He was said to be firmly in the running for India captaincy, too, considering he had led thrice in Tests already, including in the sensational win in Perth, but Gill was eventually given the chance. When asked about the decision, chief selector Ajit Agarkar cited the fitness concerns with him as a reason for prioritising Gill. 'I mean, not really booms (Bumrah), because he led in Australia. He was vice captain in Australia but once he's not going to be available for all the test matches, I think he's more important to us as a player. We want him fit. There's always that extra burden when you're leading, managing 15-16, other people, there's a lot that it takes out of you," Agarkar said in the pre-series press conference. First Published:
