2025 Expo Osaka: Yoshimura Asks Japan Expo Association to Consider Keeping Restaurants, Shops Open until Just before 10 P.M.

Hirofumi Yoshimura has asked the Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition to consider keeping restaurants and shops open until just before 10 p.m., the closing time of the 2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo, he said at a press conference Wednesday. Currently, most restaurants and stores at the expo close around 8 p.m. or 9 p.m. On Saturday, Yoshimura met with Dimitri Kerkentzes, secretary general of the Bureau International des Expositions, who proposed extending the closing time of 10 p.m. by one hour so visitors could enjoy the expo at night. On the other hand, the Japan expo association pointed out it would be difficult to extend the closing time in terms of securing transportation for staff to go home. Yoshimura expressed understanding of the association's position, but noted, 'It is also true that many people want to enjoy the nightlife.'

The digital version of the Peru Pavilion will allow visitors to explore museum exhibits, traditional textiles, gastronomy, archaeological pieces, and interact with users from around the world. Among the emblematic elements that can be appreciated are the mask of the Lord of Sicán, the mantle of the Paracas culture, Nasca ceramics, jewels of the Lord of Sipán, and a space dedicated to the Archaeological Zone of Caral. All these elements have been digitized using photogrammetry, a technique that allows generating high-precision 3D models from photographs. Under the slogan "Infinite Possibilities," the virtual pavilion invites users to discover the many facets of Peru: from its ancient cultural heritage and unique biodiversity to its innovative spirit and the warmth of its people. The proposal seeks to be a window to the past, present, and future of the country. Access to the metaverse will be available through the "Virtual Expo" application, compatible with smartphones (iOS and Android), computers (Windows and Mac), and virtual reality devices such as Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest 3. This platform will be active during the six-month duration of the Expo, which ends on October 13, 2025. An immersive experience from anywhere in the world Inspired by the real island of Yumeshima, the metaverse of Expo 2025 recreates a digital archipelago that evokes the Japanese spirit. Upon entering, visitors will be able to create their avatar, be greeted by digital residents, and embark on an interactive journey that connects global users. In this dynamic universe, participants will be able to explore, learn, and share their visions about the future of society, using interaction tools such as voice messages, chats, emojis, virtual dances, and more. BIE Head Suggests Later Osaka Expo Close Time

The aim of the idea, proposed during a meeting Saturday between Kerkentzes and Osaka Governor Hirofumi Yoshimura, is to increase the number of nighttime visitors. The Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition will consider its response. A Japanese company developing an integrated resort including a casino held on Thursday a groundbreaking ceremony on Yumeshima, an artificial island in the city of Osaka, aiming to open the resort around autumn 2030. As the site is located next to the venue of the ongoing World Expo, the Paris-based Bureau International des Expositions, had asked the developer, Osaka IR, to suspend construction during the Osaka Expo. In response, the company enclosed the construction site with a 2-meter-tall wall and soundproof sheeting. "It's possible to realize the IR project while minimizing the impact on the expo," Osaka Gov. Hirofumi Yoshimura told reporters, expressing hope that the resort will open in 2030. The 490,000-square-meter resort will have a casino and other facilities with a total floor space of 770,000 square meters. The initial investment totals ¥1.27 trillion ($8.88 billion). MGM Resorts International of the United States and Japanese financial services company Orix will be responsible for managing the core functions of the resort.
