On a week when the Eurovision Song Contest was hosted in Millstreet during May 1993, teenage performers lit-up the stage with their enthusiasm and talent supported by impressive vocals and dynamic choreography. Regarded as one of the world's best loved musicals, hit after hit emerged on a fantastic night of entertainment with stunning choreography, superb singing and a colourful set. The musical relates the lives and loves of the girls and boys as they rush towards their final days in High School. It's 1959 and a new school year for the seniors at Rydell High School. After an eventful summer, the Burger Palace Boys and the Pink Ladies settle back into their school routine, whilst they hear about everyone's successful summer romances. A 54-strong Millstreet cast were involved, favourites like 'Summer Nights', 'We Go Together', 'Born to Hand Jive', 'Sandy', 'Hopelessly Devoted to You' and of course 'Greased Lightning' featured. Musical Director Emma Norton and Assistant Director Paula Coakley together with a marvelous cast, supporting pupils and staff left no stone unturned in bringing Grease Lightning to the stage. Millstreet Community School Principal Pól Ó Síodhcháin applauded all involved in the production and the support from business outlets and organizations in the catchment area towards sponsorship. 'The musical was a culmination of five months of commitment and dedication from the students as their hard work brought a truly professional show to life. All involved in the cast and production have shown talent, teamwork and terrific commitment every step of the way, a huge thanks too to our brilliant staff and our ever-supportive Parents' Association', he said.
