Burgs is back: Juicy burgers & bold flavours at new Arab Street home

Burgs, a pioneer of affordable halal gourmet burgers in Singapore, boasts a new standalone outlet with a bigger, bolder menu than before. After a year-long hiatus, they're back at a 2-storey, 100-seater eatery along 16 Bussorah Street in the heart of Singapore's Arab Street. Did you know? Burgs was born in 2017 at a hawker stall in Golden Mile Food Centre. Proudly homegrown, all their ingredients are freshly prepped in-house daily for the freshest, juiciest burger experience. What's new at Burgs is their improved signature burger sauce, which features a caramelised onion puree infused with the rich aroma of chicken skin. This base is elevated by a gentle kick of heat from homemade pickled green chillis — a uniquely Singaporean spin on the classic relish. All their burger patties are nestled between the same brioche buns, freshly baked with Danish butter and slow-proofed for the perfect pillowy, slightly sweet base. Burgs newbies have to try The Original (S$11.90), stacked with their iconic smoky and juice-filled beef patty grilled to perfection. Paired with signature sauce, American cheese and pickled green chillies, this is an all-time-fav combination that can't go wrong. This one's for the fried chicken enthusiasts. The Big Bird (S$11.90) delivers crispy, golden chicken layered with a refreshing crunch of iceberg lettuce. Seafood fans can opt for the Fish & Chips Burger ($13.90), where battered fish meets iceberg lettuce, creamy American cheese, and a smoky tartar sauce. No meal is complete without its sides and drinks, and the selection at Burgs makes sure of it. Their Nuggies (S$4.80/6.30/12 for 6/9/20 pieces) are made from real chicken chunks and come in 2 flavours: Original and Spicy Seaweed. They've also got a selection of Fries (S$4.90), Burgs' Sig Fries (S$5.90) and Onion Rings (S$4.90) that you can dip in their range of handmade sauces like Curry and Spicy Kicap Manis. Burgs has a standout selection of drinks to wash all that grease down, headlined by their Homemade Black Lemonade (S$4.90) — a zesty, refreshing lemonade with a dramatic twist of an inky charcoal hue. By the way, each burger can be upgraded to a meal for just $3.90 more! As part of their opening special and in conjunction with International Burger Day on 28 May, you can enjoy 50% off your second burger with the purchase of any Burgs burger at full price. Burgs is back, and they're ready to dominate the burger scene in Singapore once again. 15 best burgers in Singapore so good, you won't stop at just bun The post Burgs is back: Juicy burgers & bold flavours at new Arab Street home appeared first on

Back with a bang: Burgs ends 2-year hiatus with new standalone restaurant at Arab Street, Lifestyle News

Back in 2023, popular burger chain Burgs quietly shuttered all four of their outlets. But now, they're back with a bang. The halal gourmet burger specialist has opened a new restaurant at Arab Street in a two-storey shophouse that can seat 100 diners. It will be officially open to the public on Friday (May 23). This is their first standalone eatery, as previously, their other outlets were in food courts. I visited their new space to taste their revamped menu — here's a sneak peek at what to expect. Upgraded menu, familiar flavours While their menu has a new look, fans of their burgers will be happy to know that their classics are still available with improved recipes. Something new to look forward to are their brioche buns. Unlike their buns previously, these are made in-house every day from scratch with ingredients like Danish butter. For burgers, there are beef, fish and chicken patty options. All burgers can be upgraded to a meal for an additional $3.90. I tried The Original ($13) burger, which features a beef patty, signature sauce, American cheese and pickled green chilies wedged between homemade brioche buns. I absolutely loved it. The beef was extremely juicy without being too greasy and the creamy signature sauce gelled all the components together nicely. I was also really impressed by the brioche buns which were fragrant, albeit a little soggy from the generous amount of sauce. I had a taste of the Big Bird ($12) burger as well, where crispy fried chicken, iceberg lettuce and sauce are sandwiched between the brioche buns. The fried chicken was quite sizeable and very tender, and I loved how the sauce added a zesty, savoury touch. Other burgers to try are the Fish & Chips burger ($14), which features battered fish, iceberg lettuce, American cheese and smoked tartar sauce. There's also the Bae Con ($15) where crispy turkey bacon, a beef patty, American cheese and homemade barbecue come together in a mouthwatering combination. Diners can complete their meal with some sides and Burgs has options like the Burgs' Nuggies ($7 for six, $9.50 for nine, $18 for 20), fries ($4.50), Burgs' Sig Fries ($5.50) and Onion Rings ($4.90). The nuggets are not your typical ones as these look more like karaage (Japanese fried chicken). I later learnt that the nuggets are derived from real chicken chunks and come in two flavours — Original and Spicy Seaweed. These were delicious and I much prefer them to conventional nuggets because they tasted more wholesome. All sides can be paired with a range of sauces like Ranch, Spicy Nacho Cheese, Curry or Spicy Kicap Manis. My favourite was the Kicap Manis and I couldn't stop dunking everything in it! If you still have room for something sweet, there are desserts like the Banana and Peanut Butter Pie ($4) and Fresh Mango Sorbet ($5.90). I was very intrigued by the Banana and Peanut Butter Pie as the combination of the sweet mashed banana and salty, earthy peanut butter was a unique one. I didn't expect it to go well together but I was proven wrong. My only gripe was that the pastry holding it all together was a little greasy. To wash everything down, diners can get drinks like the refreshing Homemade Black Lemonade ($5.90), which was a good palate cleanser. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by Burgs' comeback and it was enough to convince me to return for another visit. For their grand opening, Burgs' is having a one-day promotion where diners can enjoy a limited-time Chili Cheese Burger set with fries. The first 100 diners can also redeem a free Burgs tote bag. On May 28, the restaurant is also having a promotion for International Burger Day, where patrons can enjoy 50 per cent off their second burger with every order of a Burgs burger at full price. Address: 16 Bussorah Street, Singapore 199437 Opening hours: Sunday to Wednesday, 11am to 10pm Thursday to Saturday, 11am to 1am [[nid:717944]] melissateo@

Sri Lankan cricketer Fernando makes Bartestree debut in loss

BARTESTREE & Lugwardine have welcomed overseas player Saminda Fernando to their squad. Fernando opened the batting at Barnards Green - in his first knock on an English wicket and only two days after landing. The Sri Lankan stroked a powerful 20 and looked all set, till one crept past the bat. A strange tumble of wickets followed, ending with Bartestree out for a total of 134. In reply skipper Ryan Trattell took five quick wickets, leaving Barnards Green staggering on 47-5. But the remaining wickets proved too elusive and the hosts won by three wickets. Colwall progressed into round two of the Village Cup after beating Burghill, Tillington and Weobley by just 10 runs. Winning the toss and batting at the beautiful Stowe Lane, Colwall piled on the pressure and were 75 without loss after 10 overs. As soon as the spinners were introduced on the spin-friendly pitch, things started unravelling for Colwall who lost ten wickets for 47 runs to finish on 122 all out. Robert Cook stroked an exquisite half-century (63) and his opening partner, Henry Hardinges, made a run-a-ball 39. Young spinners, AJ Morris with 4-32 and George Stevenson with 3-12, will not get a more spinner-friendly wicket this season. Chasing the modest target, Burghill gave it their best effort but fell short by 10 runs. AJ Morris and George Stevenson excelled with both the ball and the bat. AJ Morris top-scored with 24 and George Stevenson was 19 not out. Spinners Henry Hardinges bagged 4-14 and Rahul Katti took 3-36. The previous day Burghill, Tillington and Weobley fell to a defeat by a single wicket against Hagley. Winning the toss, the Burgs elected to bat on a glorious sunny day. They were restricted to a modest 156 all out in 34.2 overs. Jake Kinderman's impressive top score of 43 and a breezy 30 from 16-year-old Archie Stevenson were the highlights of the innings. Wickets falling at regular intervals throughout Hagley's innings gave the Burgs hope. But a dogged and streetwise 77 from captain Michael Stead saw Hagley snatch victory after they were 107 for 8 at one stage. Dashawn Norville returned to fitness and finished with 4-60. There were two wickets apiece for John Lewis (2-19) and AJ Morris (2-54). Bereft of several first-choice bowlers, Eastnor faced an uphill task at Halesowen thirds and were beaten by 87 runs. The third-wicket partnership of Samuel Preece and Jude Johnston launched a merciless counter-attack. Preece dispatched a beleaguered attack to all corners in a blistering innings of 155 not out from 98 balls. Johnston, steady and assured, compiled an unbeaten 98, the pair adding an eye-watering 276 runs to take Halesowen to a daunting 326-2. Thrust into the role of opener, Cooper Hebbard rose to the occasion with an innings of high quality. His stroke-play was both crisp and commanding, a masterclass of timing and placement saw him hit 115 from 86 balls. Yet, around him, wickets continually fells with Kabir Singh (25) and Rohit Chopra (20) were the other top scorers.
