Second man charged over fatal stabbing of 29-year-old at Croydon Park in Sydney

A second man has been charged over a 'gruesome' murder that police believe was the result of a drug deal gone wrong. Officers found the victim, a man believed to be aged 29, stabbed to death at about 5pm on Monday at a home in Croydon Park, in Sydney's inner west. Mohammad Sofwan Bin Mustafha, 32, was arrested at the scene and taken to hospital for assessment under police guard. He was later charged with murder and faced Burwood Local Court on Tuesday. He did not apply for bail and will return to the same court on July 30. A second man, aged 26, handed himself in on Tuesday, following a widespread appeal from police in which an image of the alleged suspect was released. He was charged with conceal serious indictable offence of other, and was refused bail to appear before Burwood Local Court on Wednesday. Superintendent Christine McDonald said the victim had still not been formally identified but police were 'confident' he was a Malaysian national who had a wife and children. She said police have been in contact with his family in Malaysia. It's believed all three men were known to each other, with the 32-year-old man allegedly living at the Croydon Park home where the crime took place. The 36-year-old man was known to police and was on bail. 'We are confident that he was at the scene at the time of the murder, in relation to the role that he had to play, it's (led) to him being charged for conceal serious indictable offence,' McDonald said. She previously described the crime as 'gruesome' and that the victim's injuries were 'horrific'. On Wednesday, McDonald said she still stands by the theory that the incident was the result of a 'drug deal gone horribly wrong', but that police were still investigating how the victim came to be at the home. 'Certainly, we believe drugs were involved,' she said. 'We say so often that drugs ruin lives and families.' A number of items have been seized from the home, however the weapon used in the murder remains unclear. Police are not looking for anyone else in relation to the crime. — With AAP Stream free on

Man charged with murder after 29-year-old man found fatally stabbed inside Croydon Park home in Sydney

A man has been charged with murder after another man was found stabbed to death at a home in southwest Sydney. The body, believed to be that of a 29-year-old man, was found with multiple stab wounds to his neck on Kembla St, Croydon Park, at about 5 pm on Monday. A 32-year-old man was arrested at the home and taken to hospital for assessment. He has since been discharged and was taken to a police station on Tuesday, where he was charged with murder. The man was refused bail and will appear before Burwood Local Court later that same day. Police are appealing for assistance in finding a second man who they believe can help with their investigation. The man is described as being Asian in appearance and was last seen on Kembla St, Croydon Park, on Monday afternoon. Pictures of the man have been released, showing him wearing a black jumper with red symbols on the back, blue jeans, black shoes, a black hat, and carrying a black satchel. Superintendent Christine McDonald described the incident as a gruesome crime, adding that the victim's injuries were horrific. She said the stabbing is not believed to be domestic or gang-related, with police treating the incident as a drug deal gone wrong. Anyone with information about the second man or the incident has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers.

Teen charged over alleged pre-poll attack in PM's seat

Two people have been charged over incidents at pre-polling booths, including a teenager accused of punching an elderly man during a tense stand-off in the prime minister's electorate. Police have charged a 17-year-old with assault occasioning actual bodily harm after the incident at Ashfield, in Sydney's inner west, on Wednesday afternoon. He allegedly punched a 79-year-old man in the face outside a pre-polling centre in the suburb, which falls within Anthony Albanese's electorate of Grayndler. The elderly man was taken to hospital in a serious condition with head injuries. He was reportedly wearing a Make America Great Again hat and tried to vandalise a corflute before the attack. The teenager was refused police bail and will face a children's court on Thursday. A 30-year-old man was charged with intimidation after allegedly behaving aggressively towards a number of volunteers in a separate incident at Macquarie Park, in Sydney's northwest. Police alleged the man kicked over a number of corflutes about 11am, before being aggressive to three volunteers, including a 32-year-old female. Video of the incident shows the man, wearing a hood, knocking down one sign before picking another one up and throwing it in the direction of a man wearing Liberal Party paraphernalia. He walked off after the incident and no one was injured. Police arrested the man at a nearby unit about 1pm. He was given bail and will face Burwood Local Court on June 2. Macquarie Park sits inside the seat of Bennelong, which was won by Labor in 2022 and is tipped to be a key battleground electorate at the May 3 poll. An Australian Electoral Commission spokesman said the organisation was disappointed by any violent or intimidatory behaviour and called for respectful campaigning to occur. "Both matters occurred outside of the polling venues," the spokesman said. "Neither involved an AEC staff member and neither affected the continued operation of polling activities." Pre-polling opened on Tuesday, with more than 1.1 million voting in the first two days. That represents a 17 per cent spike in early voting compared to the same period at the 2022 election.
