Former Buxton school pupil speaks about alleged abuse
Leon was a teenager when he was sent to a children's home now at the centre of allegations of physical, sexual and mental 44, he is one of more than 40 survivors suing councils for damages in a civil County Council, which licensed The Small School at Red House in Buxton, near Aylsham, has received several "letters of action", a formality required before court action can be local authorities are facing legal action for placing children at the told the BBC how abuse was normalised, claiming it led him to commit an act of violence that put him in is his story in his own words. At the time, I was a problem child for my local authority and I was under the impression I was going there [to Red House] because it could offer me an education; it could offer me everything I couldn't be offered where I was it didn't turn out like that, for me and many others.I was a child and I was being physically hurt by an adult and they didn't care about us. We would be pinned on the floor. We would be punched. We would be scratched. We would have our legs tied behind our we were on the floor, you'd have a knee in your side, you'd have a teacher's elbow across your neck and then other kids wanted to jump on you just to be involved because they were teachers' the kids that were helping the teachers were being rewarded, even if it was just an extra £5 pocket money or extra free cigarettes... they were all happy to get I got away with it quite lightly because I was quite a big lad. I had friends in the school, but those friends would soon turn on you if there was an extra five cigarettes a day and the teachers said 'Go and sort them out.' We used to have a telephone booth which had a little counter on it so we were able to ring our parents or social services, but [the calls] were all mum came to the school and I said 'Please take me home with you' and she wouldn't. Everybody thought we were lying - this place was all hunky dory. Well, it wasn't. We were being abused, and very physically abused as so many people - not myself, I'm a strong lad and I carry on - that I'm in contact with that have got a bad life. They don't know any other way of life... They can't leave the Red House is one of the reasons why we have to have closure... because people just can't move on. They're stuck in the past and that's not fair on them.I want someone held accountable for why some of us are the way we are. I've had a really bad life myself, but this stems from the school. It took me a long time to realise wrong isn't right and right isn't wrong.I've done some bad things in my life that I'm not proud of, but when you're being brought up to be that, that's ok. You can be rewarded for that and you don't know any school was shut down in 1998. I was placed back into a children's home in Oxford and by the time I was 16 I discharged myself from care... and I was out to cause misery to every single person that crossed my path, because that's the life I'd been brought up in.I have been abusive to people. I have been arrested for things I'm not proud of being arrested for.I've tried to make amends as the years have gone on but that was the sort of life we were being brought up in.I didn't have an adult figure in my life as a child to show me what was right and wrong. I've been through the justice system up until I was 27. I did my last prison sentence in 2007, and from then I've just tried to keep my head down and hold down a job and just be a normal I not been there [at the Red House], I may have been a different person. My past has come back to bite me on the backside too many times and I don't want to live that life any more.I want to be a normal bloke where people like me and [do] not associate me with being the bad person that I was.I still see my mum... She says when she used to come to see me that the teachers used to say we were off doing this or that, so they couldn't see my mum now believes something happened. She's apologised immensely, knowing she couldn't do anything about it because I was under the care of social taken a lot for her to understand it [and] it helped when I got my social services reports; that she got to see some of the things that happened in the now we are being believed, it's a bit of a relief. 'The allegations are deeply concerning' A Norfolk County Council inspection report, seen by the BBC, said the school was registered as a children's home in August report, based on an inspection carried out in April 1994, said that since June 1992 there had been 16 reported incidents of suspected abuse of children comprised seven incidents of suspected sexual abuse and nine of suspected physical abuse or inappropriate restraint, involving 20 children in a statement, the council said it did not place any of the claimants in the case at Red it had received 14 "letters before action", it said: "The allegations made by former pupils of the independent Small School at Red House are deeply concerning and we have co-operated fully with investigations, which relate to children that were placed there by other local authorities more than 30 years ago."Our thoughts are with all survivors of abuse but as there is an ongoing legal claim we cannot comment further."Red House was operated by Tvind, a controversial Danish-based group founded in the 1960s that has been embroiled in financial scandals since the a company of the same name that provides teacher training told the BBC it was unrelated to the business that ran Red House."We are unable to provide comment as we have no status in relation to the former Tvind School Co-operation, and we are not aware of any legal action," it said. Byron Buxton Officially Back
The Minnesota Twins have been among the hotter teams in baseball the past month. They put together a 13-game winning streak and have vaulted themselves to second in the American League Central Division. Despite the winning, there has still been a lack of production from the lineup. Rocco Baldelli's team has been carried by the pitching staff this season and there's always an opportunity to score more runs. Advertisement After suffering a concussion in a collision with teammate Carlos Correa on May 15, the star centerfield is back in the lineup. Minnesota Twins activate Byron Buxton Byron Buxton was placed on the 7-day concussion injured list on May 16. He wound up missing 11 games for the Minnesota Twins but will rejoin the lineup Friday night in Seattle. Carson McCusker was optioned to Triple-A St. Paul following the Twins game Wednesday against the Tampa Bay Rays. He quickly reported to Omaha and played Thursday night. That move opened a roster spot for Buxton, who has traveled with Minnesota on the current road trip. Advertisement Byron Buxton returns as the team leader in fWAR at 1.9. He returns to a .261/.312/.522 slash line with 10 home runs. Aside from this collision, he has been remarkably healthy this season and is running at speeds we haven't seen in years. Hopefully the concussion or any lingering effects don't impact Buxton's overall health. He has played free in the field and on the basepaths this year while enjoying the clean bill of health. Buxton is a perfect 8-for-8 in stolen base attempts. Related: Three Weaknesses the Minnesota Twins Should Address Before MLB Trade Deadline A Minnesota Twins lineup that has been stretched, especially in the outfield, will welcome back their leader with open arms. Matt Wallner on the way for MN Twins too It's not just Byron Buxton that the Minnesota Twins will be getting back this weekend. Slugging outfielder Matt Wallner is expected to join the team on Saturday. He has been on the shelf since April 15 with a hamstring strain. In six Triple-A rehab games Wallner slashed .320/.370/.960 with five home runs. He launched dingers in three-straight games to end his time in St. Paul. Advertisement Wallner will return to a .263/.373/.474 slash line for Minnesota. Prior to his injury he was among the Twins most dangerous hitters. Baldelli will be looking for his corner outfielder to pick up where he left off. A logical option candidate to create room for Wallner is outfielder DaShawn Keirsey Jr. He has provided defense and speed this season, but is batting just .111/.138/.159 through 65 plate appearances.

Why Byron Buxton breakout performance came at perfect time for Minnesota Twins
Why Byron Buxton breakout performance came at perfect time for Minnesota Twins (Image Source: Getty Images) Byron Buxton's 5 RBI performance helped the Minnesota Twins end their losing streak, as they won 10-4 over the Oakland Athletics on Monday night in West Sacramento. The Minnesota Twins struggled for a while after their winning streak and needed a spark to get back on track, which Byron Buxton gave them. He tied his career best for runs batted in and again showed why he is considered a top player when in the lineup. Byron Buxton transforms Minnesota Twins offense in a crucial West Coast showdown Byron Buxton's offensive explosion came at the perfect moment for a Minnesota Twins team searching for consistency after their recent inconsistent play. The 30-year-old outfielder orchestrated the Twins' six-run second inning with a pivotal two-run double that broke open a scoreless game against Oakland Athletics starter Luis Severino. Buxton's timely hitting continued throughout the contest, as he delivered a bases-loaded two-RBI single in the sixth inning before capping his stellar night with a sacrifice fly in the ninth. The performance exemplified Buxton's ability to impact winning when the Minnesota Twins needed him most. His career-high tying five RBIs helped the team improve to 32-27 overall while maintaining their perfect 7-0 record against California-based teams this season. Manager Rocco Baldelli has consistently praised Buxton's leadership qualities, and Monday's game demonstrated why the former first-round draft pick remains central to Minnesota's playoff hopes. Minnesota Twins pitching staff overcomes early struggles to secure victory Even though Buxton got most of the attention, the Minnesota Twins pitchers made sure to keep winning over American League West teams. Starting pitcher Joe Ryan managed to work through five innings, allowing four runs, and his biggest achievement came when he didn't allow any runs in the fifth on a bases-loaded situation with no outs. Ryan forced three outs in a row, first with CJ Alexander and then with Luis Urias, and finally got Drew Evans to ground out to keep Minnesota ahead. Many relievers from the Minnesota Twins bullpen worked without giving up runs to help secure the win. Relying on many different players has become a main characteristic of the 2025 Twins. Pablo Lopez will take the mound for the second game of the series on Tuesday, and the team's depth will be put to another test against the Athletics. The next game for the Minnesota Twins will be shown on Bally Sports North on Tuesday at 9:40 PM ET, and WCCO 830 AM will provide radio coverage. The series is part of the Twins' West Coast trip, as they try to keep dominating California teams. Also Read: Randy Johnson's legendary No. 51 to be retired by Mariners in 2026, honoring franchise's pitching icon The Minnesota Twins' victory over the Oakland Athletics represents more than just another win in the standings. With Byron Buxton healthy and producing at an elite level, this team possesses the offensive firepower necessary to compete with any opponent in the American League. Their perfect record against West Coast teams suggests they've found a formula for success on the road, which will prove invaluable during the playoffs.

Buyer's plan after forking $2m on Mount Waverley home
A buyer has forked nearly $2m for s four-bedroom home in Mount Waverley, and plans to knock it down to build a single new family home. The sale of 10 Inverell Ave smashed its $1.6m reserve by more than $300,000, following a six-way bidding war that erupted under the hammer on Saturday, with the home eventually selling for $1.915m. Buxton Mount Waverley director Steve Hatzi said the property, with $1.5m-$1.65m price hopes, drew fierce competition from a mix of renovators and knockdown buyers, but it was land and location that ultimately won out. 'We had six active bidders and the energy didn't let up,' Mr Hatzi said. 'It started at $1.4m, and just when we thought it was slowing, someone else would jump in. 'We thought it was done at $1.68m, then it flew past $1.9m.' Mr Hatzi said the buyer, who beat out five other contenders, won't be keeping the original Tasmanian oak floors or the Kent wood burner. 'They're knocking it down and building one brand new home — no plans to subdivide,' he said. 'It shows the premium families are paying for land in this school zone.' The Buxton Mount Waverley director said the 725sq m block is in the Mount Waverley Secondary College catchment and one of the last remaining original homes in a street otherwise filled with new builds. 'This pocket has already undergone a big transformation,' Mr Hatzi said. 'This sale was classic real estate, buying the worst house on the best street.' Mr Hatzi said uhe vendor had owned the home for more than 45 years, and the sale reflects a growing trend of long-term residents downsizing across Melbourne's east — unlocking tightly held family housing. 'We're seeing more of this every week, owners who've been in their homes for decades are finally making a move,' he said. 'It's opening up opportunities in Mount Waverley where historically listings have been tight. 'It's not just about Mount Waverley Seconday College — it's the greenery, the peaceful streets, the connection to Glen Waverley and Burwood, and the lifestyle. That's what families are chasing.'

Cole Young plates game-winner in MLB debut as Mariners walk off Twins
Cole Young drove in the winning run in the 11th inning of his major league debut as the Seattle Mariners defeated the visiting Minnesota Twins 5-4 on Saturday. Cal Raleigh continued his home run barrage and J.P. Crawford also went deep as the Mariners snapped a three-game skid and moved back atop the American League West by a half-game over Houston. Collin Snider (2-1) pitched two scoreless innings of extra-inning relief to earn the victory. With Mitch Garver serving as the ghost runner at second base, Leody Taveras dropped down a sacrifice bunt off Cole Sands (3-2) to start the bottom of the 11th. Miles Mastrobuoni replaced Garver as the runner at third and beat the throw to the plate on Young's grounder to first baseman Ty France. The Twins challenged the call, but the result stood. With the Mariners having used closer Andres Munoz each of the past two nights, they brought in Carlos Vargas with a 4-3 lead in the ninth. After getting Ryan Jeffers to pop out, Byron Buxton hit a comebacker to the mound. Vargas fielded the ball but threw errantly down the first-base line, allowing Buxton to get to third. Trevor Larnach then grounded a single to right to score Buxton with the tying run. Twins reliever Griffin Jax got out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings. With one out, Young got his first major league hit, a line drive to right field. Crawford doubled to left an out later and after Raleigh was intentionally walked, Jax fanned Julio Rodriguez to end the frame. The Twins took a 3-0 lead in the second inning. Carlos Correa drew a leadoff walk off Bryce Miller and Matt Wallner, who was making his return after spending six-plus weeks on the injured list due to a left hamstring strain, followed with a homer to right. Willi Castro singled and stole second, took third on a groundout and scored on Buxton's two-out single to center. Ben Williamson led off Seattle's half of the third inning with a single and, an out later, Raleigh went deep to right, his 22nd homer of the season and his third in the past two games to tie the Los Angeles Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani for the major league lead. It remained 3-2 until the seventh when Young drew a leadoff walk off Jorge Alcala. With one out, Crawford hit a blast off the facade of the second deck in right field at T-Mobile Park, giving Seattle its first lead. Twins starter Bailey Ober went four-plus innings and gave up two runs on six hits with one walk and four strikeouts. Seattle's Bryce Miller, fresh off the injured list due to right elbow inflammation, also went four innings. He allowed three runs on five hits, with one walk and two strikeouts.
