HBCU administrator hit with lawsuit by Tony Buzbee's law firm

The post HBCU administrator hit with lawsuit by Tony Buzbee's law firm appeared first on ClutchPoints. An HBCU administrator has been hit with a lawsuit filed by Tony Buzbee's law firm. Texas Southern Athletic Director Kevin Granger has been accused of sexual assault by a staff member and has been placed on leave as the university investigates the incident. Per a statement obtained by KHOU 11 on Monday, The Buzbee Law Firm claimed Granger had invited the staff member into his office, where he proceeded to ask her if she was recording him. The statement said he went on to ask her 'increasingly vulgar and graphic' questions and ultimately asked her for sex while he inappropriately touched her. Buzbee's law firm also claims Granger told the woman he could 'help her career' if she complied with his requests. 'The lawsuit further details that (the alleged victim) bravely resisted Granger's advances and was ultimately able to extricate herself from Granger's office,' the statement says. 'Reports have been made with the Houston Police Department, the EEOC, and the Human Resources department at TSU.' Texas Southern issued a statement obtained by HBCU Legends, saying, 'Dear Tigers and Tiger Families, In the coming days, you may see media coverage regarding allegations of misconduct involving a senior member of the Texas Southern University leadership team. This afternoon, the university was made aware of these serious allegations through the filing of a civil lawsuit. While the university is not named as a party in the litigation, please be assured that Texas Southern University takes all allegations of misconduct seriously. In alignment with our policies and values, we have initiated an independent investigation to ensure a fair and thorough review of the matter. The executive in question has been placed on administrative leave. The safety and well-being of all members of our community, students, student-athletes, faculty, and staff, remain our highest priority. Due to the sensitive nature of this matter and to preserve the integrity of the investigative process, the university will not offer any further comments at this time. Thank you for your understanding and continued support.' Tony Buzbee and the Buzbee Law Firm has been linked to several high-profile cases involving alleged sexual misconduct. In December, Buzbee issued a lawsuit against Jay-Z, real name Shawn Carter, for allegedly drugging and raping a 13-year-old girl in 2000. Carter vehemently denied the allegations and Buzbee ultimately dropped his lawsuit. In April, Buzbee filed a case against Shannon Sharpe for alleged sexual assault. The 13-page, $50 million lawsuit was filed in Nevada alleging Sharpe had committed assault, sexual assault, battery, and sexual battery, and that he engaged in the intentional infliction of emotional distress.

Jay-Z slams rape accuser in lawsuit amendment

Jay-Z has blasted the "shocking and reckless disregard for the truth" that his rape accuser has allegedly shown. The 99 Problems hitmaker is suing the anonymous Jane Doe and her lawyers for malicious prosecution and defamation and in an amended complaint filed on Monday. He alleged the woman had "not stopped" making statement about him, despite agreeing in February to voluntarily dismiss her sexual assault lawsuit against him. In documents obtained by Rolling Stone, Jay claimed that as recently as 11 April, the woman posted a lip-synched video on Tik Tok which stated: "You couldn't pay me a million dollars to get an apology video out of me, I stand on what I said, f**k you." The amended complaint stated: "By refusing to apologise, and continuing to 'stand on what (she) said,' despite all the evidence and, indeed, her own admissions to the contrary, Doe continues to display a shocking and reckless disregard for the truth that is both intentional and malicious. "Doe never had any reasonable grounds to support any truth in her statements and acted with reckless disregard for the truth. In other words, she lied." Jay also accused lawyer Tony Buzbee of tampering with Wikipedia pages. The filing stated: "Buzbee directed his employees to edit Wikipedia pages to enhance Buzbee's image and damage Mr. Carter's and Roc Nation's reputations. "Users with an IP address directly linked to the Buzbee Firm made over 100 positive edits to Buzbee's Wikipedia page." The amended complaint came in response to Jane Doe and her lawyer challenging his lawsuit by arguing he had failed to show the "special injury" needed to pursue his case and insisted his prior claim that Roc Nation lost out on an unspecified $US20 million ($A31 million) deal as a result were not sufficient. But in his amendment, Jay - whose real name is Shawn Carter - claimed the sum represented the "minimum fee guarantee" for an undisclosed contract and the full figure "would have been many millions of dollars higher had the contract been performed." The 55-year-old rapper also alleged the rape accusation harmed his ability to pursue new opportunities. The complaint stated: "As a result of defendants' filing of the false lawsuit and other false public statements against Mr. Carter, Mr. Carter was denied a $US55 million ($A86 million) personal credit line." It also claimed that Roc Nation - of which Jay is a 50 per cent owner - had been denied a $US115 million ($A179 million) loan and he and the company are "inextricably tied". In response, Buzbee insisted the case is "meritless" and "should be dismissed". Of the Wikipedia claim, he said: "That's a first for me and is incredibly weak."

Netizens Reacts To 'Unhinged' Shannon Sharpe Losing His Cool On Someone During His 'Nightcap' Podcast

Social media users are reacting to a viral clip of Shannon Sharpe telling someone off-camera to "shut the f-ck up" while he was filming his popular podcast "Nightcap." The clip was posted to X and Instagram, and netizens are chiming in and sharing their opinions on the matter. One user called the former Denver Broncos player's behavior "unhinged," while another said he seemed to be "crashing out." All of the noise comes a little over a week after a woman with the pseudonym Jane Doe filed a $50 million lawsuit against Shannon Sharpe in Nevada, alleging the Super Bowl champion assaulted her several times throughout the course of their relationship, which began in 2023. On a recent episode of Sharpe's daily sports podcast show, "Nightcap," the media personality was talking with his host, Chad Johnson, and former NBA player Joe Johnson about the NFL before he displayed what many believed to be aggressive behavior. In the middle of his sentence, the "Club Shay Shay" host looked off-camera and told someone to "shut the f-ck up," leaving both Johnsons speechless. Shortly after, Sharpe looked up with a smirk before seemingly implying that he was speaking about people "next door." Once the clip of Sharpe began circulating online, users expressed their concerns about his behavior, with one saying the 56-year-old was "crashing out." Another user also chimed in, saying Sharpe was "becoming unhinged." Other netizens pointed to Chad and Joe Johnson's faces, adding, "You see how everyone was looking at him?" A fourth user posted a bold claim and pointed to his ongoing legal troubles, adding, "Man, whatever they say he did. He did that sh-t." The clip of Sharpe circulating around the internet arrived just over a week after he was sued by a young woman in a Nevada court for allegedly assaulting her throughout their two-year relationship. According to the suit, Sharpe and the accuser met at a Los Angeles gym in 2023 when the former allegedly offered to pay for her plastic surgery if she entered into a fitness competition with him and won. During that time, the pair allegedly formed a relationship, which, according to the accuser's lawyer, Tony Buzbee, became controlling and dangerous. "He demanded complete control over her time and body," Buzbee wrote in the filing, "expecting her to be at his house on his schedule, at his command, whenever he called." The next day, Sharpe and his legal team shared a statement on his Instagram, denying the allegations made against him. He also blasted Buzbee, who was most recently involved in a legal battle with Jay-Z, for attempting to ruin his reputation and career for money. 'To my family, friends, supporters, and colleagues, I want to speak to you directly and from the heart,' Sharpe said. 'This is a shakedown. I'm gonna be open, transparent, and defend myself, because this isn't right." He went on to say that Buzbee and his client would be "sued for defamation and trying to take me down." Sharpe added, "My career is all about real talk and honesty. I know my family and fans know exactly what this is about, and I'm going to be out there telling you whatever I need to say, just like I always do. I love all you guys." Following his statement, Buzbee and his client shared a clip of an alleged phone call that occurred between Sharpe and the accuser, in which the Hall of Fame football player could be heard threatening to physically harm the woman on the line. 'I don't know. Anything I say you're just gonna, like, get mad at me and you're just gonna hang up on me,' a woman's voice can be heard saying in the clip. Later, the voice presumed to be Sharpe replied, 'I'm not going to hang up on you. It is what it is.' After that, the male's voice is heard telling the woman on the line that she was going to start being 'a d-ck to me now,' urging her to say not to 'manipulate me.' The male voice replied: 'Oh, lord, have mercy. If you say that word one more time, I'm gonna f-cking choke the sh-t out of you when I see you.' The female voice said, 'I don't wanna be choked,' to which the male caller said, 'Yes, you do. I don't think you have a choice in the matter.' The negative attention prompted Sharpe to step down from his gig hosting ESPN's "First Take" with Stephen A. Smith. In his departure message, Sharpe addressed the chatter and said his relationship with the accuser was "100% consensual." "I sincerely appreciate the overwhelming and ongoing support I have received from my family, fans, friends, and colleagues," he finished.

Shannon Sharpe Reportedly Refusing To View 'Key Evidence' From Assault Accuser Amid $50 Million Lawsuit

More details have emerged regarding the $50 million lawsuit former star Shannon Sharpe is facing. In a new statement, the legal team filing against Shannon Sharpe revealed the Super Bowl champion was given a chance to view "key evidence" during mediation. However, according to them, Sharpe refused. Shortly after Sharpe was accused of assaulting a young adult woman in a $50 million lawsuit, the "Club Shay Shay" podcast host released a public statement, denying the allegations. He also explained that Tony Buzbee, the lawyer for the woman who filed the suit against him, would likely release a "30-second clip of a sex tape" of him in the coming days. Sharpe, 56, continued and said that Buzbee was trying to paint him in a negative light by trying to "make me look guilty and play into every stereotype you could possibly imagine." "That video should actually be ten minutes or so," he continued. "Hey, Tony, instead of releasing your edit, put the whole video out. I don't have it, or I would myself. You know what happened, and you're trying to manipulate the media. However, while speaking with TMZ, Buzbee said that Sharpe hasn't even seen the clip of the sex tape he was referring to. In fact, when Sharpe was offered a chance to see it, he allegedly refused. Buzbee also clarified that he and his client wouldn't be releasing any video, calling it "key evidence" in their case against him. "The only reason you know about the existence of a video recording is that Mr. Sharpe specifically referenced it in his bullsh-t statement," Buzbee said. "The contents of the video [were] shared during the mediation process with Sharpe's attorneys. Again, Sharpe and his team disclosed that, not us. Sharpe himself was offered on more than one occasion to view it himself. He declined. We've never made any claims or threats about it and won't do so." Buzbee also spoke about the possibility of that video being released for public viewing. "And no," he added, "we won't be 'releasing' the video as it is key evidence in the case and will be treated as such." Although Buzbee's client filed under the pseudonym Jane Doe, Sharpe and his legal representative released her name, Gabi Zuniga. In his first statement, Sharpe slammed Buzbee and Zuniga for attempting to extort him out of a large sum of money. He went on to say that he planned to sue both of them for trying to defame his character and ruin his career. "Gabbi and Tony Buzbee want fifty million dollars, [but] what they're getting is sued for defamation and trying to take me down. My career is all about real talk and honesty. I know my family and fans know exactly what this is about, and I'm going to be out there telling you whatever I need to say, just like I always do. I love all you guys," Sharpe said. Days after the allegations against Sharpe broke the internet, the "Nightcap" host revealed he'd be stepping down from his role on ESPN's "First Take" while he tends to his personal issues. He also addressed his relationship with Zuniga, calling it "100% consensual." "My statement is found here, and this is the truth," he wrote. "The relationship in question was 100% consensual. At this juncture, I am electing to step aside temporarily from my ESPN duties." He concluded, "I sincerely appreciate the overwhelming and ongoing support I have received from my family, fans, friends, and colleagues." Sharpe's "First Take" co-worker, Stephen A. Smith, also spoke on the allegations against him and defended him against the backlash. 'Do I believe that Shannon Sharpe is guilty of what he has been accused of? Absolutely not. That is my personal opinion,' he said. 'The brother that I've come to know, I don't believe would assault or rape anybody, and I'm going to state that emphatically, but just as emphatically, I'm going to remind everybody it is my opinion, because of what I feel about him, and not in any way imply that I know a damn thing beyond that, because I don't know," he added. 'I'll always be here for him if he needs me. Just the same way I said that about Skip Bayless when he departed from Fox, just the same way that I would say about any of my friends,' Smith explained. 'That's what friends do, even in the toughest of times, sometimes especially the toughest of times, they ain't telling you you're right all the time, and hell, sometimes they may not stop you from falling into that abyss, but they're there to lift you up when nobody else will.'
