Karnataka Revenue Minister questions H.D. Deve Gowda's silence over Mekedatu project

Karnataka Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda has questioned former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda's silence over the Mekedatu project even after the people of the State supported the BJP-JD(S) coalition in the last Lok Sabha polls. Speaking at Yuva Parva, a convention organised by the youth wing of the Congress party at Channarayapatna on Sunday, Mr. Byre Gowda said that former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda had assured the people that he would get approval for the Mekedatu project within hours if the State elected a good number of JD(S)-BJP seats in the Lok Sabha polls. 'The people elected the candidates of the coalition partners. However, Mr. Deve Gowda has not spoken a word about the project even more than a year after the elections. The people of Karnataka suffered even after electing the coalition candidates,' he said. He also pointed out that despite assuring ₹5,300 crore for the Upper Bhadra project, the Central government had not released even a single rupee for the same. Besides that, the Revenue Minister added that the Centre had been attempting to impose the Hindi language on the people of Karnataka. Mr. Byre Gowda said that he, as Revenue Minister, had brought significant changes in the State. 'The people would be benefited by the changes. The party workers should work towards bringing the party back to power in the next elections,' he added. MLA for Arsikere K.M. Shivalinge Gowda said that the State had been denied its share in tax collection. 'Against ₹4.5 lakh crore collected from the State, only ₹65,000 crore had been returned. Despite the difficulties, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has been successfully leading the administration,' he said. He opined that the Congress party would be strengthened in Hassan if a person from the district was appointed Minister in charge of the district. 'We will show the power of the Congress party if a person from the district is appointed Minister in charge of the district. We should work towards winning all seven assembly constituencies in the next election,' he added. Congress MLA Rizwan Arshad, MP for Hassan Shreyas Patel, and others were present.

Revenue Minister Gowda takes tahsildars to task for ‘not being available' to people during office hours

BENGALURU: Slamming tahsildars and other officials of the revenue department in Bengaluru Urban and Bengaluru Rural districts for 'not being available' to people during office hours, Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda said if they can't do their work, they should give it in writing. Taking the tahsildars to task at a meeting here on Friday, the minister said they can't give reasons such as 'attending court cases'. There are revenue inspectors to attend court cases. 'If you don't change your attitude, be ready to face the consequences,' he warned them. He said they should be in their office and help solve people's problems. 'If you can't do your duties, then give it in writing. At taluk offices, there are registers where you can mention the reasons for being away from office. If this order is violated, disciplinary action will be taken against you,' he said. The minister convened the meeting in view of the slow progress in the implementation of the government's ambitious Bhu Suraksha digitisation scheme in Bengaluru Urban and Rural districts. He said the digitisation work is progressing well across the state, except Bengaluru. He directed all tahsildars, including Grade I, Grade II and special tahsildars, to speed up the digitisation work. Action will be taken against them if they show no progress, he said. Byre Gowda said people across the state are getting online services, except Bengaluru. The minister told reporters that once the digitisation work is completed, people will get documents, especially those related to land, at their fingertips. 'We are spending crores of rupees on this initiative. So far, we have scanned 32.64 crore pages of documents across the state,' he said. Certified copies of documents can be obtained from 'So far, 1.99 lakh documents have been disbursed,'' he said. From Friday, people can apply online for documents at Atalji Janasnehi Seva Kendras. In the coming days, documents will be available at Bapuji kendras in gram panchayat offices. People need not go to such kendras if they have the Internet facility at home, he said.

Staff get laptops as revenue department prepares to go paperless

Bengaluru: In a huge step towards digital governance , revenue minister Krishna Byre Gowda Tuesday said his department is taking firm measures to eliminate the century-old 'tapal' (physical file) system and offices of the department will go completely paperless. As a first step, 4,000 laptops were distributed to village administrative officers (VAOs) across the state. At a function at Vidhana Soudha, Byre Gowda said, "The 'tapal' system inordinately delays department work. If officials do not work, people are forced to run from pillar to post. To end this, we are going digital. Henceforth, from VAOs to the minister, we intend to have a digital system for files and administrative work." "We will distribute laptops to all VAOs this fiscal (2025-26)," he said. "All files and documentation movement in the department will go online and shall be transparent, ensuring there is no delay in executing work." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Ipswich: Born Between 1940-1975 You May Be Eligible For This Life Cover Reassured Get Quote Undo Chief minister Siddaramaiah, who was present, said the department has appointed 1,000 VAOs — the first time such a huge number of posts were being filled at one go. "This is history. No other govt post has seen such a systematic and transparent manner of selection. And all this happened without a single rupee of bribe through Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA)," Siddaramaiah said. Byre Gowda said the department received 6.3 lakh applications for the 1,000 posts, indicating a selection rate of just 0.016%. The total number of VAOs has now risen to 9,003, but 831 posts are still vacant. Siddaramaiah emphasised his govt's commitment to filling vacant posts across departments. Assets seized in Ponzi scams The govt has moved to attach properties and bank accounts of those accused in three separate Ponzi scheme cases registered in Bengaluru. The govt issued notifications on April 21 and 24, based on revenue department orders. In one case, cash worth Rs 96 lakh across 24 bank accounts linked to New Friends Multi-Purpose Souharda Co-operative Ltd were attached. "The bank illegally collected deposits from the public and failed to return them either after maturity or on demand by depositors," a report submitted by Kempegowda Nagar police inspector states. In another case, the department ordered the attachment of two residential properties in Domlur and Bidarahalli owned by directors of a private chit fund firm. The action followed a report submitted by Ulsoor police, citing failure to repay depositors. Separately, in a 2020 cheating case filed at Rajajinagar police station, the govt attached nearly five acres of land in Bannikuppe near Bidadi. The accused allegedly collected money promising residential plots but neither delivered the land nor returned the money. The case is now being handled by Central Crime Branch (CCB).

Siddaramaiah govt launches series of rallies ahead of two year anniversary

BENGALURU: Ahead of the completion of two years in office, the Congress government, led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, on Sunday launched a series of 'Sadhana Samavesha' rallies at Bhyradenahalli near Devanahalli in Bengaluru rural district to showcase its achievements after coming to power. Addressing the rally, Siddaramaiah stressed that Rs 80,000 crore has been spent for people in two years in the form of the five guarantees. The region-wise rallies were apparently planned as per the behest of the party high command to nullify the anti-incumbency and stress that the government is pro-people. Digital title deeds will be distributed to 1 lakh families living in hamlets, such as Lambanis, who live in tandas, and Kadugollas in hattis, giving them revenue village status, at a mega rally slated to be held in Hosapete on May 20, marking the Siddaramaiah regime's two years. The CM, DCM D K Shivakumar and their cabinet colleagues are likely to take part in it. According to Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda, 3,614 habitats have been identified for the revenue village status and notification has been issued against 3,221, covering 1.42 lakh families. On April 29, the revenue department will launch the 'bhusuraksha' scheme to give people access to the digitalised land documents. Subsequently, Siddaramaiah is scheduled to lay the foundation stone for 17 'praja soudha' (taluk offices) in Kalyana Karnataka region. On May 16, he will inaugurate the 'zilla soudha' (deputy commissioner's office) in Mangaluru where 'phodi' repair, sub division of agricultural land and documents will be given to around 10,000 farmers. Byre Gowda admitted that the process of digitisation of revenue department records is part of the Centre's mandate, but in Karnataka, the department has gone a step ahead by taking up the scanning of documents to preserve them permanently. Byre Gowda held a series of review meetings with top bureaucrats to send out a message that the revenue department is open to reforms and is with the people, observed political analysts.
