Takeaways and observations from Eagles' open stadium practice at Lincoln Financial Field
The Eagles are the biggest show in the NFL, and a nearly sellout crowd of over 50,000 packed Lincoln Financial Field for the one practice open to fans during this celebratory training camp. Philadelphia's revamped defense made several big plays, and two under-the-radar defenders are moving up the depth chart. There was a sellout crowd on Sunday, and we're looking at takeaways and observations from the Eagles' open stadium practice at Lincoln Financial Field. Under-the-radar, defensive tackle gets his shine Joe Evans was a mainstay at UTSA, and he's looking to carve out a role with the Eagles. Byron Young has spent most of his time with Philadelphia on the injured list, and this trend has continued into 2025. Eagles' injury woes continue. Philadelphia got A.J. Brown back in the lineup, but had five other players out, and two limited, including the All-Pro wide receiver. Jeremiah Trotter is going to make things difficult for Jihaad Campbell Campbell is the first-round pick and the apparent chosen one, but it's the former Clemson linebacker and son of an Eagles legend who remains diligent and consistent in his play. Dorian Thompson-Robinson is making up ground After Kyle McCord was drafted, the assumption was that the former St. Joe's Prep star and Syracuse quarterback would make Thompson-Robinson a camp casualty. Thompson-Robinson has had a solid camp, and now the two players are getting equal reps. Alabama connection remains supreme A.J. Brown is the All-Pro, but DeVonta Smith is the player Hurts goes to when he wants to finish an opponent off. Adoree' Jackson is nearing his goal It was Kelee Ringo who was the assumed No. 2 cornerback after Darius Slay's departure, but Adoree' Jackson again got first-team reps, and in front of the fans. Jakorian Bennett is making his move Days after arriving in Philadelphia, the former Raiders cornerback is now getting second-team snaps with Kelee Ringo. Bennett eventually logged first-team reps. Vic Fangio is switching things up Fangio is a mastermind at defensive coordinator and used his elite pass rusher to confuse Hurts, which resulted in a touchdown for the defense. Jihaad Campbell can do it all The Eagles' first-round pick will likely start at linebacker and could eventually be a game wrecker off the edge. NFC West edge rusher rankings: Where do the Rams stand among rivals?
Rushing the passer is the hallmark of a good defense. It can upset the flow of an opposing offense, rattle the quarterback and allow the defense to impose its will whenever it needs to in a game. But, building a competent pass rush is easier said than done. The Los Angeles Rams tied for 20th in sacks this season with 38 and around the same in quarterback knockdown and pressure rate. The hope for L.A. is that the young duo of Jared Verse and Byron Young continue to develop, but how do they compare with the rest of the division? Here are our rankings for the best pass-rushing units in the NFC West. 4. Seattle Seahawks Seattle's edge rushers are an interesting bunch. Lawrence is an aging star, Nwosu's productivity continues to decline and Mafe has been middle of the road on the sack front. 3. Arizona Cardinals Sweat is the big name from here considering he thrived in Philadelphia both before and after now-Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon left. Collins and Browning are great auxiliary pieces, too. 2. Los Angeles Rams The Rams have two great edge rushers in Verse and Young, and even have third-rounder Josaiah Stewart waiting in the wings. This is a formidable unit that is among the best in the NFC West despite their youth. 1. San Francisco 49ers Any list with Bosa on it immediately goes to the top. First-round rookie Mykel Williams is a nice piece as well, who could thrive in Saleh's defense, while Gross-Matos had four sacks in 2024.

Jared Verse wore a perfect shirt of himself and Byron Young to Rams' 1st team meeting
Jared Verse wore a perfect shirt of himself and Byron Young to Rams' 1st team meeting Jared Verse and Byron Young became quite the pass-rushing tandem last season for the Los Angeles Rams. Young had 7.5 sacks and Verse had 4.5, each ranking in the top 26 in total pressures last season, according to Pro Football Focus. The scariest part? They've only played one season together in the NFL. Heading into Year 2, Verse wore the perfect shirt to the Rams' first team meeting of the 2025 offseason program. It featured himself and Byron Young photoshopped into the iconic 'Step Brothers' pose that Will Ferrell and John C. Riley did for the movie. Check it out at the 27:13 mark in the new episode of 'Behind The Grind', which came out this week. Here's a shot of him wearing the shirt in the video. While we don't know where Verse got the shirt, there's one for sale on Etsy that you can buy for yourself or your favorite Rams fan.
