Filthy Barn Find 1971 Corvette 454 Rescued
Read the full story on Backfire News For many aspiring barn find hunters, tracking down a 1971 Corvette 454 with the big block LS5 would be enough to make them think they've died and gone to heaven. But the funny thing with true barn finds, which this sports car is, comes from the fact they've been neglected for years on other words, when you wash off all that magical barn find dust and start digging into them, you can find all kinds of problems. Rodents will chew wires, critters will build nests, frames will become rotting graham cracker, and you would have a huge mess on your hands. Of course, Dennis Collins is familiar with all these risks. The man has been around the block more than a few times. Usually he films rescues, but the people who sold him this rare C3 Corvette didn't want to be on camera or have him film their barn for unmentioned reasons. The first glimpse we get of the American sports car is it strapped to the trailer as they're hauling it back to the shop. The thing is winking with one headlight popped up, something we personally know all too well. It's also filthy, so you can't get a feel for the body's condition entirely. Covered in a thick layer of grime that doesn't wash away in the rainstorm they drive through, the 'Vette needs to be power washed with some cleaner applied and allowed to soak in first. While the '71 Corvette has been painted white but was originally gold, the interior looks to be the original black vinyl. The only apparent modification is an aftermarket steering wheel has been added. More importantly, it's a numbers-matching car, the LS5 bearing the same VIN as the tags on the door and dash. Even though the thing is rough, the fiberglass appears to be in good shape and the engine does fire up, but it's in need of a good tune-up. Still, the C3 Corvette is in better condition than we initially feared, so we'll call this one a win. Image via Dennis Collins/YouTube

C3 Corvette Crash Likely Was Avoidable
Read the full story on The Auto Wire It's a sad day when a C3 Corvette crashes, causing fairly significant damage as well as injuring people. That's why we stopped to read up on this recent incident in a Philadelphia suburb called Solebury Township. Then we ran across claims about what led up to the to Solebury Township Police, the C3 Corvette crashed into another vehicle, from what we can see the crossover shown in the background of photos of the aftermath. The impact was serious enough to injure one of the drivers as well as passengers in both vehicles. Plus, firefighters had to extricate at least some of the victims. That could explain why the 'Vette is shown with some body panels removed, not ripped off. Although, there are some panels obviously skinned off in in part from the collision. While it's sad some people might be dealing with long-term injuries, we also hate to see a classic American sports car get damaged like this. The crash could've been much worse, but from what some people are saying, it also could've been entirely avoided. On the police department's Facebook post about the crash, one man claims the crash unfolded before his very eyes. He says the C3 Corvette was speeding as it entered a curve in the road, the back end breaking free so the sports car spun out. The man claims the 'Vette entered the oncoming lanes of traffic, hitting the crossover. It all probably happened so fast the other driver had little to no time to react. What's more, this man says the C3 Corvette was speeding along with two other 'suped up (sic) cars.' In other words, the driver was perhaps showing off for his friends, who were also speeding and maybe driving recklessly. We know for enthusiasts it can be fun to go on a local run in your hobby cars. However, pushing each other to do increasingly dangerous, illegal, and stupid things on public roads can end horribly. Luckily, nobody was killed in this crash but we don't know how serious the injuries are. If you really want to show off like this, go do hot laps on a track. SUV Crash Knocks C3 Corvette, Nova Off A Garage Lift
Read the full story on The Auto Wire Unfortunately, sometimes cars hit houses, causing serious damage, like this SUV that took out a C3 Corvette and a Nova. It seems the speeding vehicle hit the corner of the house right at the garage just so, tearing a big hole and leaving quite the happened recently in Pine Creek, Delaware, leaving the owner of the two classics with a huge headache. After all, if the cars were stored on a lift in the garage, someone obviously cared for them. The SUV had to have been going at a pretty high speed when it hit the house, ripping away half of the garage door, blowing apart the corner of the structure, and mangling the four-post lift, not to mention the cars. It's a mess that probably will include extensive repairs to the house. As for the C3 Corvette, we can see it's dangling off the lift in footage shared by 6ABC, but it doesn't appear to have extensive body damage in the angles we're shown. Honestly, that's surprising. We can't say how the chassis is doing, but hopefully it was the lift that took the brunt of the collision forces and not the cars. As for the Chevy Nova, it might not have been so lucky. The classic appears to have been sitting underneath the 'Vette and unfortunately looks to have been crushed as the lift came crashing down. You can see in the first shot of the aftermath the Nova is leaning at a sick angle toward the passenger sign, clearly indicating something heavy is compressing the suspension. While the very back end is all we can see of the classic, surely part of the Chevy is crushed. The owner will have to decide between repairing and ditching the car. Reckless Driver Abandons C3 Corvette After Los Angeles Crash
Read the full story on The Auto Wire Usually when we see cars crashed and abandoned like this black C3 Corvette ditched in South Los Angeles recently they're stolen. But something about what's not said in a local report on the incident makes us think there might be something else going to KTLA 5, the classic Corvette hit a fire hydrant at speed. You can see in the brief footage of the aftermath the front end of the sports car is all torn up, so that seems to check out. Usually, in these stories they'll just say up front the vehicle is stolen or possibly stolen, but this time they don't. Which makes us wonder if the owner didn't crash the 'Vette, then ditch it and take off. That kind of behavior would mystify many enthusiasts, but there are some possible scenarios going on here. This is pure speculation, but we've seen people who are intoxicated crash, leave their car at the scene, then resurface a few days later when all the alcohol is out of their system, destroying evidence of their wrongdoing. Sure, they might get charged for the crash and leaving the scene, but they don't pick up a DUI. Something else might have happened, like the driver being kidnapped, but those are less likely scenarios. What's funny about the report is the anchor refers to the C3 as a 'luxury Corvette' and the chyron reads 'driver abandons luxury car after hitting hydrant.' We know it's the producers who write this stuff, so someone doesn't know a C3 Corvette isn't considered a luxury vehicle. There's even a shot of the interior, and maybe it's us, but we would think even your average person would quickly realize there's nothing luxurious about it. Go figure. Learn About The Mysterious Ricer C3 Corvette
Read the full story on Backfire News An Australian car YouTuber who lives in Japan has uncovered one of the most interesting things we've seen in a while: a C3 Corvette just abandoned next to a rice field. The American sports car sits in disrepair and a state of disassembly out in the middle of nowhere at an undisclosed location. It's a wild sight to behold, but that's not SAMMIT shows in a video, the C3 Corvette which is a true ricer (it's right next to rice stalks) isn't alone. There are at least two other C3s in the area. Those two are perched atop some metal structure. But wait, there's more (literally)! SAMMIT can see through the thick underbrush what be believes are yet more Corvettes hidden from view. Are they C3s? Likely they are since the other three are. But why would they all be dumped out in the middle of the Japanese countryside? Considering Corvettes are a rarity in Japan, one would think each and every one would be cherished, not left to rot in a field. Sure, we see this sort of thing in North America all the time. But in Japan of all places? This is unbelievable. There is one clue about the 'Vette left on the ground next to the rice field. You can see the roof is damaged, and there are other signs of body damage (front bumper, side mirror, etc. The hood is also missing. We're thinking the American sports car was in a crash, but did the Japanese owner buy it that way? Or did he wreck it? Another possibility is that some American servicemen brought the Corvettes over. But when they were restationed outside of Japan, they opted to not bring their rides with them for whatever reason. That happens. What do you think happened with this ricer C3 Corvette?
