‘Minecraft' Finally Hits No. 1
The music of the Minecraft universe has become hugely popular in 2025, bolstered by the release of A Minecraft Movie. The family flick is already the second-highest-grossing film of the year, and its popularity at the box office has assured that all things related to the brand soar. The project also produced a hit song in "Steve's Lava Chicken," performed by Jack Black throughout the film. That tune seems to have reignited interest not only in Minecraft itself but also in the music associated with the game. This week, the excitement around A Minecraft Movie resulted in a major chart win. In the United Kingdom, Minecraft has now spawned a No. 1 album. The full-length Volume Alpha, taken not from the film, but the video game, rises one spot to reach the summit of the Official Soundtrack Albums chart for the first time. Last frame, the set, credited to electronic musician C418, reached a new peak of No. 2. It was held back by the Summer of Soul soundtrack, which was connected to the Oscar-winning documentary of the same name. That release now dips to tenth place. When it comes to albums, Volume Alpha is the only Minecraft-related project climbing the years-old set appears on two other tallies, but it falls on both, dropping by double-digit spaces on the Official Physical Albums and Official Albums Sales charts. Meanwhile, Volume Beta, also by C418, dips three spaces to No. 19 on the Official Soundtrack Albums ranking, as it is clearly not enjoying the same success as its predecessor. The Minecraft movie soundtrack isn't found on the soundtracks-only tally, but it does land on the Official Compilations chart. It debuted at No. 19 on that roster last time around, and it now slides to No. 26. "Steve's Lava Chicken," the breakout hit from A Minecraft Movie, is also on the decline, though it remains a top 40 hit on four different charts across the Atlantic. The Black-performed tune stands strongest on the Official Singles roster — the all-encompassing ranking of the most-consumed songs in the nation — where it slips from No. 10 to No. 19 in its sixth frame on the list. It can also be found on the Official Streaming, Official Singles Sales, and Official Singles Downloads tallies, as it continues to perform well across all major consumption metrics.

The worst video game ever made is coming to PS5, Switch and Xbox this month
An indie classic that spawned an entire genre, despite having virtually no gameplay, is coming to consoles and the best that can be said about it, is that it's cheap. Given the genre it created is called an indle game, it's fair to say that Cookie Clicker does not have the deepest gameplay in the gaming world. All you do is click on picture of a cookie, to make more cookies, to buy in-game items to automate the process of clicking on pictures of cookies. To call it inane is to understate on a titanic scale and as far as we're concerned it's an anathema to everything video games are about. However, somehow t's incredibly popular and has sold millions of copies on Steam, with a concurrent peak of 67,806 players. And now it's coming to consoles. Why it's taken so long, considering it was originally released in paid form in 2021, isn't clear but it's due to arrive on Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5 on May 22. French creator Julien Thiennot admitted to having created the game in a single evening, but we can't blame him for the game's success as he surely never imagined it going on to have this kind of reception. The game will cost £4.29 on all console formats, which is the same as it is on Steam. Strangely, there are no Xbox One or PlayStation 4 versions, and yet it's hard to imagine the game would tax their processors too hard. There doesn't seem to be anything particularly new in the console version, but it will feature over 600 in-game upgrades, various mini-games, a dragon to pet (i.e. click), and music by C418. More Trending Mind you, we wouldn't pretend to be experts on how much the game has changed since its debut in 2013, and according to publisher DashNet it does include 'new features', such as permanent upgrades that mean you can leave the game to play itself even more quickly. For obvious reasons, the idle game genre is most popular on mobile and PC but some of its other big hitters include Make It Rain: The Love Of Money, Clicker Heroes, Shark Game, Kittens Games, and other non-games whose existence we are loathe to acknowledge. If you want to try before you buy the original browser version of Cookie Clicker is still free to play here. We hate it with a passion but if you want to click, that's up to you. Yes, the actor, who has scored the biggest hit single of his career with a surprisingly short and funny tune. 'Steve's Lava Chicken' is featured several times in A Minecraft Movie, and Black's on-screen charisma and his popularity in general have turned the cut into a trending topic. After the film took over the global box office, the tune itself also became something of a shockingly successful hit. As the track continues to hold inside the top 10 in the United Kingdom, the Minecraft franchise has now produced multiple successful albums. A new arrival further highlights just how popular the brand still is — even when it comes to its music. The official soundtrack that accompanies A Minecraft Movie is finally a charting success, months after the film was released. The set debuts on the Official Compilations chart at No. 19. It's the only debut on the 100-spot list of compilations in the country. The A Minecraft Movie album is being powered largely by 'Steve's Lava Chicken.' That track appears on four tallies in the U.K., and though it's sliding on all of them, it still sits inside the top 20 on rankings dedicated to streams, sales, and general consumption. It appears highest this frame on the Official Singles chart, where it steps back to No. 10, earning another stay as one of the top 10 most popular tunes in the nation. Both are credited to the electronic musician C418. Volume Alpha returns to its all-time peak of No. 2 on the Official Soundtrack Albums chart and reenters the Official Vinyl Albums list at No. 40. It also claims space on both the Official Albums Sales and Official Physical Albums tallies at the same time. Volume Beta can be found on the Official Soundtrack Albums chart as well, as C418 doubles up on the list. This frame, that second installment steps up from No. 20 to No. 16, as it seems that all things related to Minecraft, which currently claims three successful albums in the U.K., are on the rise.
