‘Minecraft' Finally Hits No. 1
The music of the Minecraft universe has become hugely popular in 2025, bolstered by the release of A Minecraft Movie. The family flick is already the second-highest-grossing film of the year, and its popularity at the box office has assured that all things related to the brand soar.
The project also produced a hit song in "Steve's Lava Chicken," performed by Jack Black throughout the film. That tune seems to have reignited interest not only in Minecraft itself but also in the music associated with the game.
This week, the excitement around A Minecraft Movie resulted in a major chart win. In the United Kingdom, Minecraft has now spawned a No. 1 album. The full-length Volume Alpha, taken not from the film, but the video game, rises one spot to reach the summit of the Official Soundtrack Albums chart for the first time. Last frame, the set, credited to electronic musician C418, reached a new peak of No. 2. It was held back by the Summer of Soul soundtrack, which was connected to the Oscar-winning documentary of the same name. That release now dips to tenth place.
When it comes to albums, Volume Alpha is the only Minecraft-related project climbing the charts. The years-old set appears on two other tallies, but it falls on both, dropping by double-digit spaces on the Official Physical Albums and Official Albums Sales charts.
Meanwhile, Volume Beta, also by C418, dips three spaces to No. 19 on the Official Soundtrack Albums ranking, as it is clearly not enjoying the same success as its predecessor.
The Minecraft movie soundtrack isn't found on the soundtracks-only tally, but it does land on the Official Compilations chart. It debuted at No. 19 on that roster last time around, and it now slides to No. 26.
"Steve's Lava Chicken," the breakout hit from A Minecraft Movie, is also on the decline, though it remains a top 40 hit on four different charts across the Atlantic. The Black-performed tune stands strongest on the Official Singles roster — the all-encompassing ranking of the most-consumed songs in the nation — where it slips from No. 10 to No. 19 in its sixth frame on the list. It can also be found on the Official Streaming, Official Singles Sales, and Official Singles Downloads tallies, as it continues to perform well across all major consumption metrics.

Final Destination: Bloodlines Slaughters The Box Office Competition, While Hurry Up Tomorrow Shows No Sense Of Urgency
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. We've seen some truly wild Final Destination death scenes over the years, as the reaper comes to call on those who manage to (at least temporarily) evade tragedy. It also turns out that after 14 years without a fix, moviegoers were hungry for more. Final Destination: Bloodlines exceeded expectations with a franchise-high $51 million opening weekend domestically amid the 2025 movie calendar — a performance that was matched in international markets. It was a good weekend overall for Warner Bros., with Sinners and A Minecraft Movie still going strong, but the same can't be said for The Weeknd's Hurry Up Tomorrow, which underperformed to take sixth place. Take a look at the full Top 10 chart, as reported by The Numbers, and then we'll break it all down below. TITLE WEEKEND GROSS DOMESTIC GROSS LW THTRS 1. Final Destination: Bloodlines* $51,000,000 $51,000,000 N/A 3,523 2. Thunderbolts* $16,536,000 $155,427,643 1 3,960 3. Sinners $15,425,000 $240,796,000 2 3,518 4. A Minecraft Movie $5,870,000 $416,640,000 3 3,357 5. The Accountant 2 $4,959,111 $59,072,457 4 3,402 6. Hurry Up Tomorrow* $3,300,000 $3,300,000 N/A 2,020 7. Friendship $1,400,280 $2,043,436 13 60 8. Clown in a Cornfield $1,333,000 $6,329,779 5 2,277 9. Until Dawn $800,000 $19,623,031 8 1,706 10. The Amateur $712,000 $40,149,087 9 850 Death may come for us all, but there's plenty of life still left in the Final Destination franchise a quarter-century after Devon Sawa and his buds first disembarked their plane ahead of its fiery crash. Final Destination: Bloodlines opened to $51 million in domestic ticket sales and, strangely, $51 million internationally as well to earn a total of $102 million around the globe in its first three days in theaters. Given the fact that this film was made for just $50 million (before marketing costs), per Variety, and projected to earn about $40 million in its first three days, I'd say this is a big win for directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein. Bloodlines' franchise-high opening easily beats the series' previous most successful chapter — the fourth movie, titled just The Final Destination — which opened in 2009 to $27.4 million in the U.S. and Canada before going on to earn a total of $66.5 million domestically and $187.4 million worldwide by the end of its theatrical run. With its $51 million, the 2025 horror movie has already beaten the entire North American run of its predecessor, 2011's Final Destination 5, which brought in $18 million on opening weekend and $42.6 million domestically overall ($155 million worldwide). Horror Fans Show Up For One Of Tony Todd's Final Roles There were reasons to believe Final Destination: Bloodlines would see some success. In addition to being the only movie in the franchise to be Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, our own Eric Eisenberg wrote in CinemaBlend's review of Bloodlines that this is the movie he's been waiting to see for 14 years. It's also likely that horror movie fans turned up to see one of Tony Todd's final roles. The actor — who often had foreboding warnings about death for the eventual victims as he portrayed the mysterious William Bludworth in several Final Destination movies — died in November 2024 at the age of 69. He is likely best known for his titular role in Candyman, one of the greatest horror movies of all time. It will be intriguing to see how Final Destination: Bloodlines continues to perform at the box office, with some big titles on the way. The competition will be strong, but horror fans have been feasting this year, and this latest offering is getting some great word-of-mouth advertising from stunts like its 4DX 'Death Chair' experience and how it set a morbidly impressive Guinness World Record during filming. Despite hopes of bringing in between $5 million and $7 million Friday through Sunday, Hurry Up Tomorrow earned just $3.3 million for an opening outside of the week's Top 5. The film is a companion piece to The Weeknd's new album of the same name and stars the four-time Grammy winner as a fictionalized version of himself on the verge of a breakdown. It's at that point that he gets pulled into an existential odyssey by a mysterious fan (Jenna Ortega in a seriously twisted performance). It looks like more bad news for the Wednesday star, whose March release, Death of a Unicorn, also failed to connect with audiences. Critics on Rotten Tomatoes panned Hurry Up Tomorrow to the tune of 13%; however, fans seemed to be much more in tune with The Weeknd's work, as the Popcornmeter had a rating of 70%. Meanwhile, Thunderbolts* and Sinners held strong in the second and third positions of this week's earnings, finishing approximately $1 million away from each other, according to estimates. Michael B. Jordan's vampire flick even crossed a big milestone this week, surpassing $300 million worldwide for a grand total so far of $308.7 million, where it remains at the sixth-most successful movie of the year globally, right behind Thunderbolts*. Domestically, Sinners sits in second place behind A Minecraft Movie as the top 2025 domestic offerings. They may not want to get too comfortable there, though. Next weekend sees both Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning and the Lilo & Stitch live-action remake hitting theaters. Will this mean the beginning of the end for Jack Black's video game-based movie? Possibly, though I can see multiple upcoming family friendly movies having simultaneous success, especially in the summer months with kids out of school. We'll have to see. Next week will also see Tim Robinson and Paul Rudd's Friendship getting its wide release. The new A24 flick managed to make an appearance on this week's chart despite being shown in just 60 theaters. As a fan of I Think You Should Leave, Detroiters and all things Paul Rudd, I'm excited to see how people respond to the gonzo levels of discomfort this movie surely brings. We'll be back next week to break down everything that happens, so be sure to check back to CinemaBlend.

Jerry Lewis Holocaust Comedy Movie Believed Lost Discovered After 45 Years
Jerry Lewis' infamous Holocaust clown comedy movie that was believed to have been lost for over four decades has been discovered in the bank vault of a Swedish actor. The Day the Clown Cried, Lewis's never-released film, shot in Stockholm in 1972, was believed to exist only in incomplete fragments. Now, Swedish producer and actor, Hans Crispin, best known for his role in the 1988 Swedish comedy TV series Angne & Svullo, has revealed he has a copy. "I have the only copy," he told Swedish broadcaster SVT, The National reported. "I stole it from Europafilm in 1980 and copied it to VHS in the attic, where we used to duplicate films at night." "I've kept the copy in my bank vault," Crispin added. New on HBO Max in June 2025 — all the new shows and movies to watch
Summer is just around the corner, and HBO Max is heating up with a wave of new movies and shows. With an impressive lineup from HBO, Warner Bros. Discovery, and acclaimed studios like A24, the soon-to-be renamed HBO Max solidifies its position as one of the best streaming platforms yet again. This month marks the return of the hit period drama "The Gilded Age" for its third season, so get ready for more high-society scandals and relationship drama. You'll also find "Cleaner," a new action thriller starring Daisy Ridley from "Casino Royale" director Martin Campbell, on the streamer as well as A24's fantasy romance "Parthenope." The blockbuster "A Minecraft Movie" is making its way to HBO Max too, so you can experience its chaotic charm without leaving your couch (or braving the popcorn-strewn theaters). Without further ado, let's dive into everything new on HBO Max in June 2025. For even more streaming recommendations, be sure to check out our guide to the best movies on Max. Legendary 007 director Martin Campbell is back with another British action thriller that, while an obvious "Die Hard" clone, is still a fun, breezy watch if you're in the mood for some pulse-pounding action. And aren't too afraid of heights. Star Wars alum Daisy Ridley takes center stage as Joey, an ex-soldier turned window cleaner who spends her days at dizzying heights along London's high-rises. When her neurodivergent brother Michael (Matthew Tuck) gets kicked out of his umpteenth care home after hacking their system, she reluctantly brings him to work with her as she tries to straighten things out. But her day goes from bad to worse when an eco-terrorist organization led by Marcus Blake (Clive Owen) strikes the building she's cleaning, taking hostages at an energy company's annual gala in an attempt to expose corruption. It's up to her to save the day by taking justice into her own hands, Bruce Willis style, with plenty of vertigo-inducing shots to keep you on the edge of your seat. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Stream on HBO Max on June 13 The Russells continue their upward climb in New York City society this month when season 3 of Max's Emmy-winning series "The Gilded Age" premieres. Julian Fellowes' period drama has slowly grown into one of the streamer's biggest shows, and its next outing promises more high-society shenanigans, messy romance arcs and fashionably gorgeous headwear. Season 3 promises to get back to Fellowes' "Downton Abbey" roots with a healthy helping of relationship drama. After Bertha (Carrie Coon) managed to win the opera war in season 2 by offering Gladys (Taissa Farmiga) as part of a marriage proposal, the mother and daughter's relationship has hit rock bottom. Love is in the air as Russell family heir Larry (Harry Richardson) embarks on a new romance with Marian Brook (Louisa Jacobson) from the rival Van Rhijn family. Meanwhile, the Russells' social life couldn't be better now that they've safely positioned themselves at the top of society. But whether they can keep their spot on the throne is the real challenge. Stream on HBO Max starting June 22 If you've been holding out to watch "A Minecraft Movie" from the comfort of your couch instead of braving the "Chicken jockey" chaos in theaters, it lands on HBO Max this month. The June Max calendar only lists it as "coming soon" with no exact premiere date, but streaming tracker When to Stream predicts it should be around June 20. The story follows a ragtag crew of misfits (Jason Momoa, Danielle Brooks, Emma Myers, and Sebastian Hansen), who stumble through a portal into the Minecraft Overworld. Their imaginations are put to the test as they team up with Steve (Jack Black), a seasoned crafter who's been stuck there for decades, to get back home. Even if you've never touched the game, there's plenty to enjoy in this sugar rush of pixelated fun. It's packed with plenty of quirky charm thanks to "Napoleon Dynamite" director Jared Hess, and Jack Black delivers a standout performance that's sure to win over a new generation of fans.
