‘Minecraft' Finally Hits No. 1
The music of the Minecraft universe has become hugely popular in 2025, bolstered by the release of A Minecraft Movie. The family flick is already the second-highest-grossing film of the year, and its popularity at the box office has assured that all things related to the brand soar. The project also produced a hit song in "Steve's Lava Chicken," performed by Jack Black throughout the film. That tune seems to have reignited interest not only in Minecraft itself but also in the music associated with the game. This week, the excitement around A Minecraft Movie resulted in a major chart win. In the United Kingdom, Minecraft has now spawned a No. 1 album. The full-length Volume Alpha, taken not from the film, but the video game, rises one spot to reach the summit of the Official Soundtrack Albums chart for the first time. Last frame, the set, credited to electronic musician C418, reached a new peak of No. 2. It was held back by the Summer of Soul soundtrack, which was connected to the Oscar-winning documentary of the same name. That release now dips to tenth place. When it comes to albums, Volume Alpha is the only Minecraft-related project climbing the years-old set appears on two other tallies, but it falls on both, dropping by double-digit spaces on the Official Physical Albums and Official Albums Sales charts. Meanwhile, Volume Beta, also by C418, dips three spaces to No. 19 on the Official Soundtrack Albums ranking, as it is clearly not enjoying the same success as its predecessor. The Minecraft movie soundtrack isn't found on the soundtracks-only tally, but it does land on the Official Compilations chart. It debuted at No. 19 on that roster last time around, and it now slides to No. 26. "Steve's Lava Chicken," the breakout hit from A Minecraft Movie, is also on the decline, though it remains a top 40 hit on four different charts across the Atlantic. The Black-performed tune stands strongest on the Official Singles roster — the all-encompassing ranking of the most-consumed songs in the nation — where it slips from No. 10 to No. 19 in its sixth frame on the list. It can also be found on the Official Streaming, Official Singles Sales, and Official Singles Downloads tallies, as it continues to perform well across all major consumption metrics.

‘Sinners' Is A Hit At The Box Office — And Now The Music Follows Suit
Sinners spawns two albums that chart in the U.K., with the soundtrack outperforming the score across ... More multiple Official Charts rankings. (Photo by Adrian Dennis / AFP) (Photo by ADRIAN DENNIS/AFP via Getty Images) In a relatively short span of time, Sinners has become one of the highest-grossing films of 2025. The Ryan Coogler-directed, Michael B. Jordan-starring picture is already the fifth highest-grossing film of the year globally, according to Box Office Mojo, bringing in more than $161 million to date. Now that the spooky action flick is out in theaters everywhere, the music from the project, which plays a central role in the plot, has also become successful on its own in the United Kingdom – and not just in one form. Sinners has spawned not one, but two full-length albums. There's the score, which is largely made up of instrumental compositions — standard for a movie soundtrack — but which also features a number of vocal performances. Several of the film's actors lend their voices to blues and traditional folk songs that are built into the story. In addition to the score, a proper soundtrack has also been released. While there's some crossover between the two projects, the soundtrack leans even further into an inspired-by vibe, bringing together tracks from musicians like Rod Wave, Brittany Howard, and Don Toliver. Between the two releases, the Sinners soundtrack emerges as the bigger winner in the U.K. This frame, the full-length appears on three charts and manages to lift higher than the score. The Sinners soundtrack opens highest on the Official Soundtrack Albums chart, where it launches inside the top 10 at No. 9 At the same time, the collection, which blends blues, Irish folk tunes, instrumental tracks, and even a bit of hip-hop, starts at No. 16 on the Official Album Downloads tally and at No. 26 on the Official Compilations list. The Sinners score also finds its way onto a handful of tallies across the Atlantic, as both musical companions to the film are resonating. The mostly instrumental project kicks off its time at No. 37 on the Official Soundtrack Albums chart, joining the actual soundtrack inside the top 40. Over on the Official Album Downloads tally, it debuts at No. 51. While the Sinners soundtrack is officially credited to various artists — a typical move for this kind of inspired-by collection — the score is attributed specifically to Ludwig Göransson. The Emmy, Grammy and Oscar-winning composer is back on the tally under his own name with the release of the Sinners score. Göransson has now placed six projects on the Official Album Downloads chart and eight on the Official Soundtrack Albums roster. That total, of course, doesn't account for projects like the Sinners soundtrack, where his contributions are part of a larger, multi-artist effort.

‘Harry Potter' Almost Reaches No. 1 On An Unlikely Music Chart
John Williams's Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone reenters U.K. charts after 20 years, ... More hitting No. 2 on the Soundtrack Albums chart—its highest peak yet. NUP_173167 (Photo by Kevin Winter/Universal Studios/NBCUniversal via Getty Images) Thanks to Record Store Day, John Williams is back on the charts in the United Kingdom. Several of the legendary composer's scores from the Harry Potter franchise were re-released for the music industry holiday, and two of them became bestsellers in the country where the boy wizard first rose to prominence – and one stands out as a real winner from the latest edition of the music biz effort. The original Harry Potter score – Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, as it's known across the Atlantic – is back on the charts. The instrumental appears on three different albums rankings in the U.K. this frame. It's brand new to one and returns to two others, reaching a handful of important milestones along the way. The title makes its debut on the Official Albums Sales chart, opening at No. 64. That's a notable achievement for Williams, as it gives him just his fifth-ever placement on the list of the bestselling albums in the U.K. That's a somewhat rare feat, even for one of the most successful film composers in history. Scores don't always move units quickly, even when they're beloved, so seeing one of his projects land on this tally is a surefire sign that it's one of the most popular film scores of the past several decades. That same project returns to the Official Soundtrack Albums chart, and it comes back with a bang. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone reenters the ranking all the way up at No. 2, almost nabbing the top spot. That position is a new peak for the title. The album debuted at No. 7 back in 2002. It went on to spend several weeks inside the top 10 before eventually fading. This is the first time the release has been spotted on the Official Soundtrack Albums chart in 20 years. It last appeared in August 2004, when it sank to No. 44 before vanishing. The soundtrack also reemerges on the Official Physical Albums chart this frame, landing at No. 62. Williams manages to claim more than one win in the U.K. this frame. The composer doubles up inside the top 10 on the Official Soundtrack Albums chart, as Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets also returns. That second entry from the franchise reenters at No. 9, though it previously peaked at No. 3, so while this isn't a new high, it's still a sign that fans are showing up for more than just the first film's music.
