New Citroen C5 Aircross: deep dive on the crucial French SUV

And those occupants should feel pretty cosseted, thanks to Citroen's trick suspension with 'progressive hydraulic cushions'. These special dampers absorb the energy as the suspension compresses and rebounds, dissipating any nasty shocks. First fitted to the original C5 Aircross, the low-cost technology has spread across the Citroen range, and they do improve ride quality. The cockpit's design and technology is intended to boost well-being, too. The dashboard is swathed in light grey fabric and the quilted seats can be electrically adjusted in 10 directions, with heating, ventilation and massaging functions. All this adds up to a living room vibe. 'With C5 Aircross, we're back with interiors that are 200 per cent Citroen!' the proud head of design told me. 'That cabin cannot be mistaken for a Peugeot or a DS.' The ambient lighting, with an eight-colour spectrum, should kick in on level 2 Plus trim; the large glass roof is likely to be an option for UK buyers, though. It might feel like a living room but it's one embedded with technology. A huge, portrait-oriented touchscreen segments the dash, not just Citroen's biggest, but larger than anything from all its sister Stellantis group brands, which include Peugeot, Vauxhall, DS and Alfa Romeo. There are a few physical air-con controls, but most functions are digitally operated. The touchscreen has some permanent displays – temperature adjustment, smartphone connectivity status and media/phone/nav/homepage access – but the dominant area typically relays the 3D navigation, infotainment, EV state of charge and short cuts to seat or steering wheel heating – unless you customise it. Citroen says you can steady yourself on the arm rest while you operate the screen, but I found I had to reach forward to manipulate it. READ SOURCE

Citroen Aircross Sales Hit Rock Bottom- Dark Edition Launch Fell Flat?

Citroen India is facing headwinds on its path to growth in the country. The French automaker registered sales of 339 units in April 2024, which is a decline of 16 per cent compared to 404 units sold in the same period during the previous year. To make things worse, the Citroen Aircross has been getting a cold response from consumers. In April 2025, the SUV sold zero units despite the launch of the Dark Edition version in the same month. The sales of zero units show a major decline when compared to the 93 units sold in April 2024. Meanwhile, in March 2025, the brand managed to sell 69 units of the SUV. At the same time, the C3 registered sales of 110 units, the E C3 registered sales of 109 units, Basalt recorded sales of 69 units, and the C5 Aircross recorded sales of 54 units in April 2025. It is to be noted that the C5 Aircross had to go through the same thing in March 2025, with no sales in its name. C5 Aircross is a complete reset for Citroen's top SUV

Citroen has unveiled its new C5 Aircross, signalling a major rethink for the French brand's flagship SUV. Revealed in a Paris premiere, the second-gen Aircross features a bold redesign, added interior space, and the choice of petrol, hybrid, and fully electric drivetrains. All naturally have ride comfort as the key attribute. Former curves make way for a more angular offering that encompasses Citroen's new design language. Borrowing cues from the new C3 and C3 Aircross, the C5 Aircross embraces aerodynamics with a sloping roofline, grooved rear arches, and dramatic 'light wings'. The latter are thin LED strips borrowed from supercar designs. Citroën says the new look is about both style and improved airflow, key for all-electric variants. The latest Aircross is longer by 152mm, stretching to 4652mm overall. Boot space swells to 651L. It retains 200mm of ground clearance and offers wheels up to 20 inches in diameter. The interior also gains a significant amount of extra space, especially in the rear where adults won't feel hemmed in. Reclining backrests and Citroën's unique 'progressive hydraulic cushion' suspension ensure a comfortable ride. Inside the new C5 Aircross offers lounge-like luxury. There are 10-way electric seats with massage, heating and ventilation functions, quilted upholstery, and a cabin layout that is unique. The dashboard gets a fabric finish, ambient lighting, and a 10-inch digital driver display. A head-up unit is optional. At the centre sits a huge portrait touchscreen that controls everything from satnav and climate to the optional ChatGPT voice assistant. Powertrains kick off with the Hybrid 145 that pairs a 1.2-litre three-pot turbo with 48V mild hybrid ISG tech. The Plug-In Hybrid 195 offers up to 85km of electric-only range from its 21kWh battery and a combined range 960km. EV option 1 is a 73kWh battery pack for 517km of range and 157kW of power. Version 2 is a 97kWh battery pack for range of 677km and power of 170kW. Both feature 160kW DC charging, with bi-directional capabilities. On the practicality front, rear seat backs split 40:20:40 while there are two Isofix systems in the rear. Oddments stowage totals 40 litres, while 47kg of recycled materials are used and driver assistance tech includes semi-automated motorway lane changes and enhanced blindspot detection. A surround camera aids manoeuvring in tight spaces. The 2025 Citroën C5 Aircross launches later this year, hoping to reboot the French brand's fortunes.

I can't believe how close the new Citroen C5 Aircross is to the original concept

Usually when a car company takes the wraps off its shiny new concept, my first thought is 'the production version won't look anything like it'. Well, Citroen just proved me wrong with the new C5 Aircross. The second-gen crossover aimed firmly at family buyers almost exactly matches the original concept showcased at last year's Munich motor show. The beefy crossover sits on the Stellantis STLA Medium architecture, which also provides the basis for the Peugeot 3008 and Vauxhall's Grandland (to name just a few. Seriously, Stellantis is huge). However, the Citroen C5 Aircross looks and feels much more imposing. That's partly down to it being a bit larger than the outgoing model, but it's the dramatic styling that really sets the tone. Citroen has increased the wheelbase by 60mm, which is immediately apparent on the inside. This is a very roomy car, with oodles of space in the front and in the rear. The effect works even more impressively thanks to a remodelled interior layout, which Citroen fluffily refers to as the 'C-Zen Lounge'. Naturally the seating – as with any Citroen – is an obvious highlight, but the fit and finish of the interior is premium, quirky and cool, just as we like it from this legendary French brand. There's lots of tech on offer too, with the middle area of the dashboard being dominated by an expansive touchscreen infotainment panel that's very tempting to prod and poke. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come as standard too. The dashboard layout looks particularly well executed and comes complete with a healthy array of features and functions that can be customised to suit individual needs. The 10in display and larger head-up display in front of the driver is nicely done too, while there's a big emphasis on voice control options this time out, including a dollop of AI from ChatGPT. This is a family-focused crossover so, as expected, space levels are better than ever. The Citroen C5 Aircross offers 651 litres of load space in the back. Knock down those sumptuous back seats and that rises to an impressive 1668 litres. In terms of powertrain, Citroen is placing a big emphasis on the hybrid models, with a mild and plug-in edition catering for different customer needs. The latter should be good for around 53 miles of electric-only range, making it very school-run friendly. Even more interesting is the all-electric C5 Aircross, which will be available with a 73kWh battery offering 323 miles of range. A bigger 97kWh battery option delivers up to 422 miles, meaning range anxiety is firmly pushed aside. It's too early to say what the official pricing will be, but those in the know suggest the EV should land at around the £40K mark and those hybrids potentially £5K or so less. The base level mild hybrid might come in at just over the £30K mark. That's a lot of comfort and range for relatively small beans, I think.
