DIAT organises workshop on AI-driven simulations for porous media
The Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT), the premier research and academic establishment of the Ministry of Defence, located at Girinagar near Pune, recently organised a niche technology workshop focussing on Computational and Artificial Intelligence-driven Multiphysics Simulations in Porous Media (CAIMS PORO 2025).
A press statement issued by the DIAT through the Defence Public Relations Officer, Pune read that the CAIMS PORO workshop was a landmark academic event focused on advancing research and applications in the field of Computational and AI-driven Multiphysics Simulations in Porous Media. The workshop was funded by the Scheme for Promotion of Academic and Research Collaboration (SPARC), an initiative by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, and facilitated by National Coordinator, IIT Kharagpur.
The workshop was organised by DIAT's Department of Applied Mathematics and was a collaborative effort of Prof SVSSNVG Krishna Murthy, the SPARC University Coordinator at DIAT-Pune, Prof BV Rathish Kumar of IIT Kanpur, who has worked alongside with leading global institutions in the field.
'The primary aim of the workshop was to address cutting-edge trends and techniques in Multiphysics simulations — an area of significant importance in engineering and scientific research. Key topics included the digital twins and their applications, AI and machine learning techniques in simulations, multiphysics models for understanding complex porous structures.
The porous structures form a critical area in industries such as materials science, geotechnical engineering, and environmental engineering. Over 100 academic professionals attended the event, with 23 expert lectures from distinguished speakers across India and abroad. The workshop concluded with a valedictory session where Dr BHVS Narayana Murthy, Vice Chancellor of DIAT, delivered a speech recognizing the success of the event.
