A total of 65 awards were up for grabs and 11 restaurants in Scotland scooped a Deliveroo Restaurant Award this year. But just one outstanding Chinese restaurant in Scotland managed to bag the prestigious accolade. Famed for its fresh and spicy Sichuan food, San Chuan in Edinburgh's southside was crowned the country's Best Chinese. This eatery is renowned for its authentic Cantonese dishes which are expertly crafted in-house using genuine Sichuan ingredients. Its distinctive cooking techniques are even tailored to better suit the locals' tastes. Meanwhile, Deliveroo's Independent Restaurant of the Year for Scotland was won by Big Manny's Pizza in Aberdeen. It is run by a trio of Callum and founder brothers Phil and Ashley Adams, who started working together during lockdown and opened their first restaurant six months later. Since then, the pizza joint has grown rapidly, serving up delicious, freshly made pizzas to locals in both Edinburgh and Aberdeen. Calum Wright, Director at Big Mannys' Pizza commented on their win: "We are absolutely delighted to be named Independent Restaurant of the Year for Scotland by Deliveroo! From our beginnings in Aberdeen, dreamt up by myself, Phil & Ash, to our expansion across the city, our mission has been to bring those big, flavour-packed New York-style pizzas with a Mannys' twist to Scotland. "Whether it's a classic Marg or one of our wilder creations like the viral Bombay BigBoi, this award is a testament to our amazing team and all the pizza lovers across Aberdeen who've embraced our slices. A massive thank you to Deliveroo for this incredible recognition!" Scotland's Biggest World Buffet Expands to Dundee Jimi Famurewa, food critic and Deliveroo restaurant awards judge, added: 'It's an honour to be a returning judge for Deliveroo's UK & Ireland restaurant awards, and I was blown away by the passion and talent on display at the Independent Restaurant of the Year cook-off. Each finalist brought something unique and delicious to the table, making the final decision incredibly tough for us. However, CRUNCH from London stood out amongst the fierce competition, showcasing immense creativity, fine dining-level technique and mindblowing flavour that impressed us all." We told previously how Scotland's best fish and chip shop was named in the awards. And the best pizza in the country was also crowned.
