Trump celebrates surprise axing of Stephen Colbert's ‘Late Show'
US President Donald Trump has celebrated the cancellation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, calling its long-running host talentless, days after Colbert criticised his corporate owners for striking a legal deal with Trump.
'I absolutely love that Colbert got fired,' Trump wrote on social media on Friday.
'His talent was even less than his ratings,' he said of Colbert, who is known for his biting humour and nightly criticism of the president.
US broadcaster CBS announced on Thursday that The Late Show with Stephen Colbert would end in May 2026, stunning both fans and the entertainment world.
The show has been the most-watched programme across late-night television in the US for years.
The broadcaster described the move as 'purely a financial decision' and said it was not related to the comedic content or the business turmoil within Paramount Global, the ailing corporate owner of CBS.
