Carney said in a social media post Monday that the 'humanitarian disaster in Gaza is rapidly deteriorating.' 'Canada is intensifying our efforts with international partners to develop a credible peace plan and will ensure aid moves forward at the necessary scale,' he said. Carney had posted video earlier in the week of Canadian aid pallets delivered to Gaza via Jordanian military aircraft. Anand said in a separate social media post that she remains in contact with her counterpart in Jordan to ensure Canadian aid reaches Palestinians via air and land. Israel imposed a blockade on Gaza in March, arguing that Hamas had been selling vital supplies and food to pay its fighters. UN agencies say this was not happening to any large extent. After 2 1/2 months, Israel allowed Americans to launch the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, which set up aid distribution sites. Hundreds of Palestinians have been killed by Israeli army fire and American contractors while trying to access those sites. Israel recently loosened some restrictions on food and medicine reaching the Gaza Strip in response to an international outcry over starvation in the Palestinian territory. Global Affairs Canada said in a release Monday that Israel's ongoing aid restrictions are in violation of international law 'and must end immediately.' This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. 'Canada reiterates calls for the guarantee of safe and unimpeded access for humanitarian organizations, including the opening of all crossings, the rapid approval of customs clearances and all humanitarian goods into Gaza, and the issuance of long-term visas for aid workers,' the statement read. On Wednesday, Carney cited Israel's aid restrictions and the need to preserve a path to a two-state solution as reasons for declaring that Canada would officially recognize a State of Palestine. Carney said the move was conditional on the Palestinian Authority undertaking serious reforms and holding an election next year for the first time in two decades. — with files from Dylan Robertson Vancouver Canucks Vancouver Whitecaps Local News Entertainment News

Canada conducts first humanitarian airdrop in Gaza
Ottawa [Canada], August 5 (ANI): The Canadian Armed Forces made their first humanitarian airdrop over Gaza on Monday using their own aircraft -- delivering 9,800 kilograms of aid to Palestinians, according to Global Affairs Canada, as reported by CBC News. CBC News had exclusive access to the Canadian effort, which delivered food supplies like lentils, oil, milk powder and pasta using a CC-130J Hercules aircraft that departed from a Jordanian airbase. The drop was part of an attempt by six countries to alleviate the hunger crisis in the Palestinian territory. 'Canada is taking these exceptional measures with our international partners as access to humanitarian aid in Gaza is severely restricted and humanitarian needs have reached an unprecedented level,' Global Affairs Canada said in a statement published Monday afternoon. 'Despite the scale of need, humanitarian partners face severe challenges in delivering life-saving food and medical assistance by land due to ongoing restrictions imposed by the Israeli government.' In an interview with CBC News, Major Cam MacKay with the 436 Transport Squadron said the team 'is very motivated to do this mission.' 'There are people that are very much in need of that aid on the ground, and for us to be able to assist Global Affairs Canada and being able to deliver that aid, it feels very good,' he said. The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said on social media that '120 aid packages containing food for the residents of the Gaza Strip were airdropped by six different countries, including Canada, which joined the airdrop operations for the first time today.' The other five countries were Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Germany and Belgium, the IDF said. France and Spain have also participated in other airdrops over the last four days. It was a chaotic scene as Palestinians rushed to an aid drop site in the Nuseirat area in central Gaza. Upon arrival at the site, men and women pushed each other, and some children could be seen climbing over the desperate crowds to get closer to the humanitarian aid. Israel has slightly loosened its tight restrictions on food and medicine reaching the Gaza Strip in response to an international outcry over starvation in the Palestinian territory, as per CBC News. Aid experts have said that airdrops are vastly less effective than truck convoys. Some of the pallets dropped by air earlier this week have fallen into the sea, and at least one has struck and killed Palestinians on the ground, as per CBC News. Israel blames Hamas for the suffering in Gaza and says it is taking steps for more aid to reach its population, including airdrops, pausing fighting for part of the day in some areas and announcing protected routes for aid convoys. Canada Airlifts Humanitarian Aid to Gaza Ahead of Plans to Recognize Palestinian State
The Canadian Armed Forces airdropped humanitarian aid into Gaza on Sunday amid ongoing starvation crisis and Canada's preparedness to recognize the Palestinian State in September, according to Al Arabiya. Canada deployed a CC-130J Hercules aircraft to carry out the humanitarian operation on Sunday to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinians who are facing unthinkable conditions since the beginning of the war in October 2023. The operation comes at a crucial time as Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand and Defense Minister David McGuinty condemns Israeli government obstruction of humanitarian aid as a violation of international law. 'Despite the scale of need, humanitarian partners face severe challenges in delivering life-saving food and medical assistance by land due to ongoing restrictions imposed by the Israeli government,' the ministers said in a joint statement. The aid delivery follows Canada's announcement of its plans to recognize the Palestinian state at the United Nations next month. 'Canada condemns the fact that the Israeli government has allowed a catastrophe to unfold in Gaza,' Prime Minister Mark Carney said. Canada has committed over $355 million in international assistance for Palestinian civilians since the start of the war, including $99 million revealed in March 2025 and $50 million pledged in November 2024. Dozens of Gazans including children have lost their souls due to malnutrition throughout the war that started in October 2023. Since the beginning of Hamas-Israel War, the Israeli strikes have killed more than 60,332 Palestinians and wounded over 145,870, according to Gaza's Health Ministry . Canada Air-Drops Emergency Humanitarian Aid into Gaza
Israa Farhan Canada has delivered an emergency air-drop of life-saving humanitarian aid to Gaza, the government announced on Tuesday, amid rising concerns over the deepening humanitarian crisis in the region. In a joint statement, Foreign Minister Anita Anand and Defence Minister David McGuinty confirmed that the Canadian Armed Forces deployed a CC-130J Hercules aircraft to conduct the air-drop, delivering 21,600 pounds of vital supplies. The mission was carried out in collaboration with Global Affairs Canada. The operation comes in response to what officials described as unprecedented humanitarian needs in Gaza and severe restrictions on the delivery of aid by land. According to the statement, humanitarian partners are facing major challenges in providing food, medical supplies, and other critical support due to continued Israeli-imposed access restrictions. Canada condemned these barriers, calling them a violation of international humanitarian law and urging immediate action to ensure safe and unimpeded humanitarian access. The Canadian government stressed the urgent need for a substantial scale-up in humanitarian assistance and renewed its calls for open border crossings, fast customs clearances, and long-term visas for aid workers. It also thanked Jordan for its support in facilitating aid deliveries to Gaza. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results
