Egypt urges India, Pakistan to exercise restraint amid deadly exchange of fire
A file photo of the Egyptian flag - CC CAIRO – 7 May 2025: Egypt has called on India and Pakistan to exercise maximum restraint and prioritize diplomatic dialogue after deadly strikes exchanged between the two Asian countries on Wednesday. In a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Egypt underlined the importance of resorting to peaceful solutions that fulfill the aspirations of both countries' friendly peoples in achieving calm and stability. Egypt stressed the need to exert every effort to de-escalate the crisis and prevent further regional escalation. A dangerous escalation has erupted between India and Pakistan following a series of Indian missile strikes deep within Pakistani territory. Details: #News #IndiaPakistanWar #india #Pakistan #NEWS | #الهند #باكستان — Egypt Today Magazine (@EgyptTodayMag) May 7, 2025 A dangerous escalation has erupted between India and Pakistan following a series of Indian missile strikes deep within Pakistani territory. The strikes, which India claims targeted infrastructure linked to a recent tourist massacre, killed at least 26 deaths, including a child, and sparked a furious response from Islamabad. Meanwhile, a local Indian government official said at least eight Indians were killed and 29 others were injured in retaliatory strikes. The Indian strikes were followed by intense exchanges of fire across the disputed border, claiming more lives on both sides. Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the Indian strikes and vowed retaliation. 'Pakistan has every right to give a robust response to this act of war imposed by India, and a strong response is indeed being given,' Sharif said. They attack in the middle of the night. Pakistan will strike in broad daylight. — Defence Pakistan (@Defence_PK99) May 7, 2025 Pakistan claims to have downed several Indian fighter jets, while India reports civilian casualties from Pakistani shelling. The root of the conflict lies in the contested region of Kashmir, a territory divided between the two nations but claimed in full by both. Decades of tension and two previous wars have failed to resolve the dispute, leaving the region a constant flashpoint. The latest violence was triggered by a brutal attack on tourists in Indian-controlled Kashmir, an act claimed by a militant group called Lashkar-e-Taiba. India has accused Pakistan of backing the attack, a charge Islamabad denies. Analysts warn of a potentially devastating cycle of retaliation between the two nuclear-armed powers. The United Nations has called for maximum restraint, emphasizing the catastrophic consequences of a full-blown military confrontation. India's military has reportedly named its operation "Sindoor," a reference to the Hindu tradition symbolizing married women, a stark reminder of the widows created by last month's massacre.

Egypt celebrates anniversary of raising national flag over Taba after pivotal diplomatic battle
A file photo of the Egyptian flag - CC CAIRO – 20 March 2025: On 19 March, 2025, Egypt celebrated the anniversary of raising the Egyptian flag over Taba, a territory regained through a diplomatic struggle that lasted fourteen months, the foreign ministry says. This effort culminated in the historic ruling in Geneva by an international arbitration panel on September 29, 1988, which affirmed Egypt's sovereignty over Taba. Roughly six months after the ruling and following Egyptian diplomatic efforts to compel Israel to comply, the last Israeli soldier withdrew from Taba on March 15, 1989. This was followed by the raising of the Egyptian flag on that cherished land on March 19, 1989, marking Egypt's victory in the battle to reclaim its territory, a triumph supported by all state institutions and agencies. The foreign ministry stated that 'this strenuous diplomatic battle showcased the resilience and expertise of the Egyptian negotiator, drawing from the principles of Egyptian diplomacy, which is unwavering in safeguarding the nation's security and dedicated to defending its supreme interests, both in peace and war.' Addressing the Egyptian people and President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on this occasion, the foreign ministry reaffirmed its commitment to continue defending and expressing the greatness and dignity of this nation and the authenticity and nobility of its generous people.
